Usual suspects, with Kevin Spacey...Awesome ending!!!:wave2:

That one definately should have been on my list. I own it, just didn't think of it when I posted. I also really like L.A. Confidential.

tr.v. un·der·rat·ed, un·der·rat·ing, un·der·rates
To rate too low; underestimate.

I apologise in advance for appearing pedantic, but some movies are appearing on this thread allegedly "underrated" when in fact they have been critically hailed as classics in every sense of the word.

Please think about your selection before posting......

Dark City- just as good as original Matrix if not better!
D.E.B.S- not as bad as people say and lesbians are fun!
Dinner Rush- just a great overall film..if you like cooking and the mafia!
Chronicles of Riddick- Vin Diesel is a joke but this movie has a real good story...
Real Men- great comedy..John Ritter and James Belushi are great!
Dawn of the Dead(Newest Version)- Great horror flick that doesn't take itself too serious!
The Wildlife- Better than Fast Times at Ridgemont High!!

noticed that myself... a lot of them are even overrated.

Freddy Got Fingered (Tom Green is hilarious)

A number of the sets were reused from Dark City in The Matrix.

Multiplicity - Michael Keaton and Andie MacDowell...the stupid clone is hilarious
The Man Who Knew Too Little - can't go wrong with Bill Murray

I'll add The Craft to the list, another cult favorite. Good movie about witchcraft. Starts out almost comedic at times, but ends up becoming quite dark in the last couple minutes.

PS. I created this thread, wink wink.

Here are some films I like that might not be underrated, so much, as obscure. Critics seemed to know them & like them, but they somehow slipped past the general population.
In no particular order :

"The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" - Robert Shaw & Co hijack a subway train & have to negotiate with Walter Matthau

"Genghis Cohn" - made for the BBC, this blacker-than-black comedy is about a Jewish comedian killed in the concentration camps who returns, years later, to haunt the commandant who ordered his death.

"The Long Riders" - Walter Hill directs the story of the James/Younger gang (with emphasis on the Youngers, for once) - starring several acting families : the Caradines, the Quaids & the Keachs.

"Southern Comfort" - also by Walter Hill, this is Lousiana National Guardsmen vs. Crazy Backwoods Cajuns in an improvment on 'Deliverance'

"A Midnight Clear" - brilliant war film.

"Wyatt Earp" - yes, Kevin Costners epic bio-pic was critically & publicly lambasted, but this sprawling film is well deserved of a re-appraisal. Costners multi-faceted protagonist is hard to root for, in the traditional sense of the western hero, but that's because he's a well-rounded character, full of flaws and problems as well as greatnes. He's no cardboard cut-out blown up larger than life, he's an identifiable person. And Dennis Quaid's Doc Holiday is perhaps the DEFINATIVE version I've ever seen (and Val Kylmer can shove his hucklberry's up his ass)

"Topsy Turvy" - the story of how Gilbert & Sullivan came to write & present "The Mikado" - don't yawn - seriously, it's excellent, full of great characters & wonderful little moments. The only people I know who ever saw this were myself & the girl I took to see it, but we both enjoyed it & it's worth your time if you like quality film.

That's just a few, I'm sure I'll think of more once I've logged out - LOL

It's good to be the king...
Warlock (1959)

A quirky western starring Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn & Richard Widmark. I like it because Fonda's character, a somewhat amoral "Marshall" showed traces of the much more unpleasant "Frank" (also played by Fonda) in the classic Once Upon A Time In The West/ C'era una volta il West (1968)

I'd say anything starring John Cusak is underrated...I can't think of a movie that sucked when he was in it. The guy should be at Tom Hanks status in my book and isn't.

good actor but he's starring in chick flicks now Must Love Dogs? Serendipity?

Shit speaking of John Cusack, he's in CON AIR, another movie that should be added. Man that movie is awesome.

That Thing You Do!

Not a bad directing debut for Tom Hanks - the rise and fall of a 60s boy-band....

Starship Troopers is my pick as the worlds most underrated movie. I've seen that movie about 15 times, and I'm still entertained by it. Many people don't like it, and they may have a point about the acting, but it doesn't matter to me. There's a lot of action, the political propaganda is hillarious and there are a lot of big bugs. I like it all.

Angela Devi's yet-to-be made movie!

I'd say "The Rules of Attraction", the Roger Avary film based on Bret Easton Ellis' book. It's a bit too nihilistic, but still a fine film.
