I tend to think Obama's poll numbers are reflective of the same things that would negatively affect any president..the economy.
The same reason why GHWB went from an all time high in the polls to not being re-elected in a matter of months.
That said, I think 316's larger point is while white voters may have elected Obama....institutions controlled largely by whites are in the position to determine the fate of his actions.
If hypothetically, the institutions are loathed to see his success for fear of what it may portend then it could be worth it to stifle his efforts long enough to ensure his failure....hypothetically.
I simply believe progress on the order we're looking for takes longer as demonstrated in the past. Certainly for unchartered circumstances.
At the end of the day though, Obama's leadership style has become his biggest weakness.
While people elected him to be pragmatic, they don't expect him to compromise at every point. In some cases you need to stiff arm obstructionist clowns and get things done without having to take a year to do so.
