^ That would have to be an astronomical OBP if walks were the correct answer. I'll take a guess, did he hit 56 doubles / triples?

On Aug 26, 1939 the Cincinnati Reds came to Ebbets Field to play the Brooklyn Dodgers. What occurred to make this a special event.

RCA introduced this new technology at the 1939 Worlds Fair to kick off sales to the masses. They cost as much as a car so about 400 sets were in use for that ballgame. There was not to be regular broadcasting till the 40's. Programming was relegated to events so advertising wasn't important. The idea was to put people at these events. Get them excited to buy televisions.

I'm taking a guess here, Johnny Vander Meer's second no-hitter? This would have been his second one in a row in two starts ...

Mamaretti got it right with first televised game. Hats off to you and feller though. Vander Meers second no hitter was a little over a month earlier and it was the first night game at Ebbets Field. Talk about a record that may never be broken. Can you imagine anyone throwing 3 complete no-hitters in a row? Only a handful have pitched 2 in a year.

Two other records that will stand forever are Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak and Cy Young's 511 victory's. If a pitcher were to win 20 games for 20 consecutive years he would still be 111 wins behind Cy Young.
