Yes the A'S and Twins are very similar in most ways. the Twins payroll this year is north of 90 million but they have drawn over a million fans to their new home stadium already.I watched them last night on ESPN they have a great ballpark.

Sports are supposed to be an escape from the stress of life, the Mariners are only adding to mine.

My team hasn't won a WS in nearly 102 years. We have the third highest payroll in baseball and we're five games under .500.

That's not stress that just fucking annoying. It makes me want to curb stomp starving orphans.

It's a great park, eh? And how about that Morneau? Leading the league in batting average and this park is just NOT a home run hitter's park.

The real weakness I see in this club is their pitching. Actually, I'm really concerned about their staff (particularly starters) at this point. They may have to make a move at some point I think if they want a good, deep run this post season.

Wouldn't it be the best season ever if both the Yankees and Sox missed the playoffs while the Rays and Blue Jays made it?

I wouldnt mind. Like you said a couple weeks ago; it's getting boring watching the Yankees win all the time.

Im getting worried about Not So Big Time Timmy Jim. In the years Tim Lincecum has been up in the bigs, I dont ever remember him struggling like this. I want my Cy Young flavored Tim Lincecum back please. And Ubaldo Jimenez is just straight filth. Dude is throwing 99-mph fastballs that move than most pitchers breaking pitches. He could probably get by on that pitch alone, but no he also has a curve and slider that are also unhittable. Not to mention this new split-change hybrid pitch that is quickly becoming the most untouchable pitch in baseball. The way he's pitching right now, like no else ever has. Can he sustain it?

I suspect his back is killing him from carrying his team. :D

But in reality, his issues with his hand seem to be affecting his control severely. Once his blisters heal, (which might mean a trip to the DL), he should be fine. His peripherals look almost identical to last year at this point, except he's walking about 3% more of the hitters he faces.

well if Tim L. has hand issues, blisters, he needs to rest the hand. otherwise his control will get worse. Shayd an increase in walks can be bad as he throws more pitches early and the Giants not great bullpen then has to work more.

That's simple enough to say, but the Giants have nothing even close to league average to replace him with. Especially given their lack of offense, the Giants can't really afford to let him heal, (although to be honest, I would anyway).

yeah i know the Giants face a dilemma with Tim but for his long term health the need to make him miss a start or 2 and take their chances with someone in the minors.
I like Target field. yes the Twins are hitting fewer homers but as a team that has to manage cost it's better to have a pitchers park, as you can usually trade pitching for a hitter when needed.

Baseball players have become so sissisfied. The pitchers in particular are pampered like newborns. The pitch count, the DL, the short rotations...they are so pussy afraid of losing them (the front office) that they treat them like queens. My dad told me that closers and relievers and so forth were unheard of when he was a kid.

This is why guys like Spahn and Young and even guys like Maddux and Morris and Blyleven are so much more cool; they were straight work horses. You don't find that much anymore. I know that there are quite a few pitchers in the modern game that are going a consistant 7+ innings, but the pampering shit is overkill. :2 cents:

Even a guy like Blyleven

I agree Bloody, mostly. Pitchers today throw a tremendous amount of breaking pitches compared to what they used to throw, and that puts a lot of torque on the elbow. But I also think that they have less stamina and are more prone to certain kinds of injuries, such as back injuries, because they are over-managed and don't get enough work because of pitch counts and five man rotations.

Roy Halladay has more complete games than anyone I believe. And you never see him on the DL.

So yeah, I think there's some babying goin on. Teams are so worried about the money they've invested that they're afraid to over-work these guys.

Lol, DL works too. I actually like the DH for two reasons; it gives guys who are still great hitters a chance to play longer, and watching a pitcher try to hit is actually painful and boring beyond description.

Yes the disabled list is also a PC invent.

As far as the DH, the reason pitchers are so painful to watch trying to hit a ball is because the pussies don't have to or don't try. Peter Gammons himself said he hates the DH and wants it gone from the game. This is the most knowledgable guy in baseball. Isn't that a newer invent as well.

Yeah, the DH was implemented in '73.
