Castro's played one game and now he's going to be an all-star next year? wow way to over hype a guy. i respect Peter's judgement but let the guy play some before giving unrealistic excpectations. he does improve the Cubs in 2 ways though with better ss defense and 2b gets and upgrade as well.

Peter made this prediction before the season even started. It had nothing to do with his performance in that one game.

Thanks for the info. Castro is over-hyped lets see how he does against the Giants,Phillies and Cardinals pitchers

Nick Punto says Twinks are capable of winning over a 100 games if club stays healthy. :)

I'm a Yankee fan. I really like the Twins. Joe Mauer could conceivably become the best all around player the game has ever seen. The problem the Twinkies have IS the Yankees. They just happen to have their number. Although that was a nice comeback the other day.

ps. I didn't think there was an MLB thread. Cool a place to hang out after the Stanley Cup playoffs are over.

Man, Mark Teixeira is a complete bum. He is totally overrated. That guy can't buy a hit and it was the same way throughout the entire post season last year.

After all the nice things I said about Mauer? Just kidding. Some guys just can't cut it in NY. I haven't been impressed with Teixeira since he got there. I'm still pissed about them letting Tino go.

You have to admit that Teixeira has not done much. What is he batting, .203? Just when I said that he got a blooper hit. Not trying to rag, but Mauer is a beast, bro. He is just a hit machine. Other than that, the Twins cannot, I mean cannot hit the long ball out of Target Field. Should've stayed at the dumpy Homer Dome. :o

Mauer's my favorite player in the league. It's kinda sad but I just don't really love anybody on the Yankees right now, though I still love the team. Since O'neill, Martinez, Brosious and Williams left it just hasn't been the same.

As far as Target goes, yeah that fucker is huge. I don't think it hurts Mauer much but it hurts Moreno. He's more of a power hitter.

The dimensions are supposed to be damn similar to the Homer Dome. They are just not hitting the big ball though. Morneau is batting over .370 though and Mauer is at .356 or so.

Wasn't Martinez getting old?

I knew I spelled his name wrong. Target just plays so much bigger without the controlled environment of that dome.

Tino was only 33 when they let him go the first time. Yankees and their greed just had to have Giambi. Now that was a bust.

Mauer just got robbed.

I Liked Tino with Griffey and Johnson on the Mariners back in the day. Tino was a big hitter.

Giambi was a bust? He averaged a .917 OPS, and that's including his disaster of a 2004 season. Martinez during the same time had an average of .787. The Yankees let him walk because they got someone better, plain and simple. If Giambi was a bust, I'd love for my team to have one too.

I definitely do not want to argue on this thread. But I watch the Yankees every single day. Tino was clutch. Jason was not so much. Tino was a world class firstbasemen. Jason was inept at best. Jason's last 2-2 1/2 yrs were spent mostly on the DL. Tino was an integral part in the winning of 4 championships. Jason played with essentially the same team and won nothing.

So your argument for Tino being better was that he had an imaginary skill that doesn't exist (clutchness), and a bunch of team accomplishments instead of actually playing individually better at baseball. The defense doesn't bridge the gap between them. Your also assuming that Tino wouldn't have had any degrading skills himself due to age on the Yankees which is a pretty large and probably false assumption.

What's sad are those are among the last group of good people that the Yankees developed themselves. With all their resources it's sad to think that the last time they brought up a good group of their own players was the mid 90s. I think non-ironically that might be when Jorge wasn't as involved with owning the team and making decisions for it.

So that's what goes on in this thread? Just pick out something and argue about it. Cause I said I don't want to argue. I don't really care what anyone thinks of the Yankees. I know as many people hate them as love them. And I'm fully aware of all their flaws. I just wanna hang out and talk baseball without having to justify every opinion I might have of a team I've been a fan of for 35 yrs. There's enough bullshit around this board as it is.

What does watching the Yankees everyday have to do with anything? Tino Martinez as a Yankee was statistically a league average defender, (literally, his defensive value was +1 run) and a great hitter, (he was an average of +20 offensively). Giambi was a terrible defender, but an elite hitter as a Yankee (average of +35 offensively). Tino had an average WAR of just over 2.5, while Giambi had an average of 3.4. Giambi was not inept, in fact, he contributed more to his team than Tino did, statistically speaking.

The funny thing is, there is actually a metric to measure efficacy in high leverage situations, and Giambi ranked higher than Tino did during their respective times.

What I said has zero bearing on my thoughts about the Yankees. Giambi was better as a Yankee, that is a fact. I'm glad you don't want to argue, and neither do I, in fact, there is no argument, the numbers show Giambi to be better. You don't have to justify every comment, but when you make one that is factually incorrect, typically people will question it here. It's nothing personal, in fact I'm glad you've joined the discussion.

Funny for the first time in a while the Mets are actually playing good ball. If Papi is juicing they will catch him testing is random and pretty often. I think maybe his wrist and knee are finally healed
the phillies are playing like shit the entire team

OK, I'm a novice with the Saber Metrics, its just that Tino was a fan favorite and a lot of people were really upset when the Yankees let him go. As Yankee fans most of us love it when they spend the money to get the best players available but not when it means we loose one of our favorites. We're spoiled.

But I'm glad this thread's here. It's good to see there's still some die-hard baseball fans around.
