Jon Stewart Catches Sean Hannity in a Big Fat Lie

Excuse me while I pick my world up that just fell all around me!

Oh. Wait a minute...

Never mind. Fox News lies to keep you protected! Yeah. Yeah. That's it :D

You heretics!

How clear the obvious is ...you are so right! And John even agrees with you!

Stewart has said more than once he moves the pieces around for fun, when it comes to news...he's a comedy show, not a newscaster.
Beck and Hannity claim to be no more than "they are what they are", all the fools here who keep going on about "truth" and "news" are so silly as to defy description. News casts are "breaking" news, so to speak...not the same as opinion shows.
Stewart is a satirist, a comedian, a cynical commentator...who is so stupid as to get any NEWS from him? ...oh, sorry, there...I hope I didn't hurt your feelings!

I realize I am speaking to a mixed bag of high schoolers and adults...some are even grown-ups as well. But ANYONE who can't tell the difference between NEWS and information/facts/opinion is a mile short and a few decades away from the real world.
Ya'll can go to another thread for your entertainment, nothing for you in talk!:D

While it is true that the work of Marshall McLuhan has been around for a long time and absorbed into the general debate and it is often expressed that in the age of the interwebby, we are all supposed to be hip to the ironies of the various media, this is just not the case. There are whole sections of the populace who are completely irony free and don't have some sort of sophisticated post-modern approach to deconstructing the news. They simply take the message at face value. They may do this because of their own pre conceived biases. They may not.

This is a problem for the rest of us because, even though the numbers for viewership of cable channels are neither here nor there compared to the number of the electorate as a whole, they do drive the news cycle on a daily basis for the wide expanse of time between elections.

This week we are having a useless shouting match about Muslims in the american population. Pretty soon it will be time for the annual revival of the pointless spat about the "war on christmas." These debates never solve anything: indeed by the time the decisions relating to them are made the cable channels are off looking for the latest ratings lightening rod.

This deliberate misleading and the phoney outrage, debate and spin that accompany it have successfully replaced reasoned and informed inquiry into a whole host of topics that deserve to be examined in depth and with a modicum of intellectual honesty and rigor.

Don't point out the fact that Sean Hannity tells baldfaced lies on Fox News at his fascist forum unless you want to get the boot. While there, be a little darling, don't rock the boat and just go with the flow and all will be fine there

"you say Sean is lying and you're out of here."

every time i see tv news from around the world i think thank god for the bbc. it might have its problems but those people in the uk who criticise it don't know a good thing when they've got it

Just watched the vid - Hannity is a shameless con-man.

Complete loser. But millions of right-wingers will still watch him faithfully.

Does anyone else have an issue with the fact that broadcast standards and investigative/confrontational journalism are being discussed in conjunction with a guy that has a TV show on Comedy Central?

...and no one laughs harder than Jon Stewart, because the joke is on all of us.

Hannity confirms Jon Stewart had it right...

When contacted by Yahoo! News about the matter, a Fox News spokesperson declined to comment, but added that Hannity will address the issue on his show airing Wednesday night.

UPDATE: At the tail end of Sean Hannity's show Wednesday night, at approximately 8:55 p.m. EST, the Fox News host had the following message concerning the controversy:

"Although it pains me to say this, Jon Stewart, Comedy Central, he was right... It was an inadvertent mistake but a mistake nonetheless.”

People blast Stewart because he's a comedian. Hold on. Satire has always been a weapon in the political world. The romans did it. Twain did it.

Stewart and the people at the daily show are masters of satire. And like it or not, it makes a difference.

How could something like that materialize and be an "inadvertent" mistake???

:helpme::rofl::confused::rofl::confused:

Oh, oh...I get it...the mistake was getting busted!!:crash:

I'll take this over photoshopping "news" anyday. If any of you guys REALLY think you get unbiased information from ANY source in a 24hr cycle then you are an idiot. If you single out Fox alone, that makes you a liberal idiot. :)

Dan Rather anyone?

Most people accept that individuals have personal perspectives that may come across in certain reports, commentary or editorials.

However, Fox is a network of activists run by activists for what appears to be the communicating and propagandizing the political perspective of a party.

Hell, I don't even have a problem with Hannity being biased as he's a commentator/entertainer and not a journalist. The problem is their network is biased, deceives their viewers AND they make shit up almost all the time.

How is that excusable???

BTW, Rather did concoct the document nor did CBS...they just failed to have it properly authenticated.

Bingo. Jonathan Swift, Lewis Carroll, Moliere, even Shakespeare... all masters of comedy and entertainment, but now recognized as providing some of the best, most biting political and social satire of their day. Jon Stewart isn't in their league, but he's definitely a product of the same school and one of the best around today.

Yep.
Its a circus freak side show, Jon Stewart included.
we haven't received any real news in years.
keep the red ants and the blue ants stirred up and fighting.
Jon Stewart, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Moore, Al Franken, and about 2 dozen others, give me a break.
whats news?
they replaced Saturday morning cartoons for this crap.
and there was more truth in the cartoons.
ignorance is willful.

The author of the article summed up everything anyone needs to know about FixedNews.

If they respected the intelligence of their audience at all, you would think that they would at least make a serious effort to fool them. Instead, they keep providing evidence that they really aren’t all that interested in being a news network. Heck with efforts as poor as this one, they aren’t even a good propaganda machine.

Hannity: Jon Stewart Was Right About Protest Footage
First Posted: 11-12-09 01:03 AM | Updated: 11-12-09 10:54 AM

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/12/hannity-jon-stewart-was-r_n_354887.html

Fox News' Sean Hannity responded to Jon Stewart Wednesday evening after the Daily Show host called out the network for using old footage from a larger September 12, 2009 "Tea Party' protest to illustrate a much smaller health care rally on Capitol Hill last week.

Speaking directly to the camera, Hannity said that it pained him to admit it, but Stewart was correct.

"And although it pains me to say this, Jon Stewart, Comedy Central, he was right. Now on his program last night, he mentioned that we had played some inccorect video on this program last week while talking about the Republican health care rally on Capitol Hill. He was correct, we screwed up. we aired some video of a rally in september along with a video from the actual event. It was an inadverdent mistake, but a mistake none the less. So, Mr. Stewart, you were right. We apologize. But by the way, we wanna thank you and all your writers for watching."
