Great lesser known movies

I actually like Lady Vengeance better than Oldboy. I think the plot in Lady Vengeance is a whole lot more believable than the one in Oldboy.

Thats your opinion and I respect it, although to me the believability of a movie isnt that important, its the overall story and the way its acted and directed plus the enjoyment I get watching it is more important. Oldboy was more enjoyable IMO :hatsoff:

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
Idiocracy

Idiocracy is a 2006 American dark comedy directed by Mike Judge, and starring Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph. The two main characters sign up for a military hibernation experiment that goes awry, and they awaken 500 years in the future. They discover that the world has devolved into a dystopia where marketing, commercialism, and cultural anti-intellectualism run rampant and dysgenic pressure has resulted in a uniformly stupid human society.

Despite its lack of a major theatrical release, the film has achieved something of a cult following because of its satire of the “dumbing down” of contemporary society and the breakdown of individual responsibility and consequences.

For me it depends what kind of movie it is if it´s important that the plot is believable or not. I don´t think anyone cares if a zombie movie makes any sense but in a movie like this where you´re supposed to feel something for the characters i think it´s important that the reasons they do the extreme things they do make some sort of sense. Don´t get me wrong, i like Oldboy a lot but there are some things in it that just doesn´t work (for example the hypnosis thing, that is a typical movie plot device that just doesn´t work in the real world). I don´t know if it´s because the movie is asian and their culture is very different from western europe but some of the things they do in these movies doesn´t make any sense to me (it´s the same thing in Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance where one of the characters suddenly kills herself for no apparent reason).

Oldboy was based upon a graphic novel so I suppose that contibutes to the nature of the plot. :dunno: And I also suppose the culture has something to do with it.

I don't really want to give it away but the reason that the girl kills herself in Mr. vengeance is because she finds out that they are holding the girl for ransom. Asian movies have a tendency to do things for no apparent reason because they want to leave it up to the audience to figure it our or draw thier own conclusions. It's kind of hard to get used to for American audiences because our movies usually spell everything out for you because people don't like feeling confused after watching a movie.

Spleen

Banned?

I really liked that film, it just always annoys me that they don't take it a little more seriously. It's almost of the verge of slapstick at points.
Fantastic death scene though.

I'd like to throw these onto the table, I'm aware that many movie buffs would have heard of these, but I'm pointing them out for the people who haven't.

The Machinist Although since Christian Bale getting more known since Batman, it's not really as less known as when it first appeared. Bale should of got a god damn oscar.

The Limey Extremely stylish. It's pretty much a straight revenge story, yet it some how feels original.

The Host Best monster movie since Jaws. Even more impressive that it came from South Korea.

one of my favorite movies that doesn't get much attention is I <3 Huckabees.

x2.I <3 Huckabees as well, and feel that it hasn't gotten the credit that it deserves.Even Mark Wahlberg was great in that movie.

street smart (1987)
clean and sober (1988)

lady V is a load of crap in comparison to the other 2 films in the trilogy...i know it, wook park knows it and anyone with any taste in cinema knows it...

anyway - couldnt be arsed to backtrack, but if you haven't yet check out 'in bruges' with colin farrel and brendan gleeson - brilliant film!

I suppose not many people have seen The Vengeance trilogy

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
Oldboy
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

Out of the three I would say Oldboy was the best but I liked all three movies so, there you go :hatsoff:

I have only seen Oldboy and liked it a lot. Didn't even know it was part of a series. (Adds two to my "To See" list) :)

Idiocracy
Liked this one a bunch.

A few of my picks:

Dancer in the Dark starring Bjork - kind of a "love it or hate it" flick

California Highway Patrol's Red Asphalt series - never get behind the wheel again!

Avere vent'anni (To Be Twenty) - made me cry and want to vomit

Goodbye Uncle Tom - Realistic, if shockingly exploitative, view at slavery in America

There is a movie called "November" starring Courtney Cox that's pretty fucking awesome that didn't get a whole lot of props.

To add to the Vengeance series,I never saw Lady V or whatever it's called.Sympathy For Mr.Vengeance was absolute trash as far as I'm concerned and didn't quite make any sense. Now Oldboy, that was a fucking great movie.

And speaking of Korean cinemat here is a movie called "H" that's pretty good too.
