Great lesser known movies

off the top of my head, Old Boy. It's in korean which may turn off a lot of people, but it's a pretty amazing movie, very original.

It has one of the greatest/most realistic fight scenes, where the main character beats up about 20 guys in a hallway.

the plot is about this guy that is imprisoned in a room for 15 years without knowing why and then suddenly released and given five days to solve the mystery.

IFC, The Sundance Channel, and Film Movement all feature a lot of really good independent films.

For those who try to comprehend the incomprehensible:

Shoah

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090015/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoah_(film)

I very rarely give a 10/10 rating but this deserves 11/10. Schindler's List has unfortunately gained the status of the definitive holocaust movie, while in fact it is a sentimental pile of crap.

Watch Lanzmann's subtle, epic study instead. Spielberg's two hour-feature is a waste of time, the nine-hour long Shoah is a realistic journey into the abyss.

Sorry for spoiling the party! :o Bring on some happy fun films! Something Ethel Merman-ny or Jimmy Durante-ly.

Three I can think of right now: Machinist, The Jacket, Special,

I know theres more, and I'll add them when I think of them. Good thread.

Two great calls on the Machinist, one of the most under appreciated movies to come out in say the last 5-10 years, and what can I say about Oldboy?Fucking great, that's what I'll say.The hallway fight alone is worth seeing this movie.Great call guys.

I sort of like the old horror movie The Blob.

I remember liking Labyrinth a long time ago...although maybe that was just because the last time I seen it, it was so long ago I was too young and stupid to know any better.

Army of Darkness (Evil Dead 3). Yes 1 and 2 are great but not enough is said about this one, even if it is the third best in the series.

"I kill firstborns while their mamas watch. I turn cities into salt. I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls, and from now till kingdom come, the only thing you can count on in your existence is never understanding why. "
