Football (soccer) Summer Transfers

I thought Liverpool signed Gonzalez in Januarary but loaned him out to a Spanish club as he couldn't get a work permit.

No they didn't, Liverpool originally tried to get him on a season long loan last summer. At the end of which they'ed sign him for 2 million, but all fell through with them not getting a work permit. In January they went back and bought a first option on him. This they took up last week when he got clearance for his work permit.

West Bromwich Albion have signed Swiss World Cup shot-stopper Pascal Zuberbuhler.

Dunfermline boss Jim Leishman has swelled his ranks with the capture of Roddy Mackenzie and Jim McIntyre

Porto have wrapped up the capture of AZ Alkmaar winger Tarik Sektioui

Dutch goalkeeper Stefan Postma has completed his move to Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag

Energie Cottbus have completed the signing of Chinese international midfielder Shao Jiayi

Tonight will be the official decision but the Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio will go down to Serie B.

That's not the end of it; the teams will lose points as a punishment.

The number of points the Rossoneri will lose is unknown at the time but it will be about 10-15 points, which will make it difficult to run for the Scudetto and compete with Inter and Roma.

Juventus will lose 20 points, Fiorentina 10 and Lazio 7.

This news of course means that players from these teams are up for grabs. Real Madrid and Capello already eyed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Emerson.
Zambrotta has been linked with Barcelona and Buffon has been linked with AC Milan.

Verdict expected about 6pm, not sure if that our time or Italian time.
I heard on the radio they expect:

Juventus - Relagated to Serie B and have a 20 point deduction.
Fiorentina - Relagated to Serie B and have 10 point deduction.
Lazio - The same punishment as Fiorentina.
Milan - Still in Serie A with 15 point deduction.

Also all 4 teams will not be in Europe next season despite qualifying.

These are just rumors at the moment.

It's more than "just rumors", chances are that will happen

Bolton Wanderers have completed the signing of highly-rated Ivory Coast defender Abdoulaye Meite

Hull City have finalised the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dean Marney

can Liverpool PLEASE try and sign one of them :)

Quote from the latest interview with Rafa Benitez today...

I'm still looking for another right winger, but it's hard as clubs know we want one and bang the price up for that reason. Also I'd would like another striker but only if a suitible one becomes availible at the right price.

Juventus have been relehated to Serie A with 40 points deducted!

Milan are said to be courting Gigi Buffon, and now these players will have to find a new home otherwise, they will be second tier players.

BUFFON (there is talk of a season long loan)
ZAMBROTTA
CANNAVARO (Madrid are in the lead)
THURAM
EMERSON
NEDVED
DEL PIERO
CAMERONESI
IBRAHIMOVIC
TREZEGUET
LUCA TONI

I'm missing several great players but you get the idea... can Liverpool PLEASE try and sign one of them :)

40? I heard 30.
40 is too harsh, you might as well send them to Serie C since they wont make it back after this season.

Fucking Italians, politicans fucked up, the players were awesome, and they punish the teams and themselves by messing up their best club ever and 2 other great ones. Way to go, Italian football will suck for the next season or two.

So what your saying Calm is you support match fixing  Personally I think they've got off light, I'd have relegated them straight to serie C and not allowed them promotion for 2 years at least. This would show teams and the people who run the club that cheating doesn't pay.

No I say punish them, take their 2 championships away, disqualify them from European tournaments and make them start this season in the Serie A with minus 40 points, but don't send the team to Serie B since you're killing it! The purpose is to punish, not to kill the club.

By the way, if there has been cheating in the Italian league chances are there is cheating in other major leagues, as well.

First your not killing them, you are punishing them, thats the whole point of it. Just because their classed as a big club, they should get no favours to them (and I like Juve). Punish them and make an example to make others afraid of doing the same.

As for other major leagues, the Premiership has a few things in place to try and prevent this type of thing. But no one knows how fool proof they are, but they seem to work. As theres never been the slightest hint of any match fixing here.

I know what you mean but we watch it for the fun and sport, it wasnt very sporty of them to cheat, to say the least, therefore they should be punished and have all acoomplishments taken away from them; however, we still want competition otherwise the league isn't interesting.

The Italians have been caught cheating in the past. In the 80's Milan (and I think Lazio too) got the same punishment Juventus got. You could say one of 2 things: only the Italians do that shit or only the Italians get caught.
There isn't the slightest hint of cheating in the Premiership, or the Spanish La Liga or the German Bundesliga but it's not a farfetched concept that there may have been cheating in the recent past.

I'm sorry, I'm just upset because I support Juventus, we got way off topic.

I'm pretty sure Milan were never caught match fixing and demoted, maybe you're thinking of Napoli...

I'm actually somewhere between the both of you... I wanted to see Juve relegated because I hate Juve and I've watched enough matches where Juve are level against the bottom of the table team with a minute to play and the ref adds on six minutes and then gives a dubious penalty in the fourth... Juve's "luck" in last two seasons was what got them the titles, and that luck was never actually luck.

But on the other hand, I feel miraculously relieved that Milan were not relegated, and I am not sure why they got off but thank god. I feel bad for Lazio and Fiore who didn't benefit much from the Juve-centric match fixing, yet are relegated. Especially for Fiorentina who just clawed their way back into the Serie A and managed to get a Champions League berth.

It is certain that all four Italian clubs will appeal, and most Italians feel the penalties will be lessened. Milan may get their 15 points reduced. Juve will probably get their 30 points reduced (it is 30, not 40 as I wrongly stated). The other clubs may avoid their point deductions. There are some who still think some or all will avoid relegation. Interestingly, Milan's main point of appeal will be to retain their place in the Champions League. As of now, it will be Inter, Roma (yay Totti), Chievo and Palermo who take the four Italian places in the tournament. I hope Milan manage to overturn that and get back in the competition, otherwise we may lose players too. I think Milan will win the league despite the 15 point deficit.

Roberto Donadoni is the new manager of Italy.

I think Arsenal should avoid Viera like the plague.

The alligations are for the 04/05 season and there is no evidence of cheating by Juve in 05/06 season so that's just trying to ruin Juve's reputations. This season was legit and wonderful, unfortunatly it will be deleted from the history books.

Milan were relagated in the 80's along with Lazio for match fixing.

The Bundeliga has been rocked with corruption this season with about 4 officials fired because of it. No clubs were named.

Henk Timmer goes from AZ to Feyenoord.
Stein Huysegems from AZ to Feyenoord.
Theo Lucius from PSV to Feyenoord.
A lot of young talented players from several teams in the Eredivisie to AZ.
Danny Landzaat probably goes from AZ to Wigan Athletic.
Salomon Kalou from Feyenoord to Chelsea.

Ajax have struck a deal to bring Croatian goalkeeper Joe Didulica back to the Eredivisie
No, AZ bought Didulica.

And Dirk...STAY!!!

I remember Napoli getting relegated for it and then getting a certain player who became a god there to bring them back to the big time...dare I say Hand of God. Also what was Marseille and Athletico Marid relegated for or did they just have transfer embargo's put on them for bungs.

chelsea have it in the bag again cos of buying
SHEVCHENKO
BALLACK
and now JUVE..LAZIO..FIORENTINA..are going down to the SERIA..B and MILAN have all been done for match fixing their players are up for grabs

I doubt Milan will be selling any of their players. Perhaps Kaka, not sure. But also look for them to be buying up some of Juve's players too.

Craig Bellamy scores on his debut in front of a Welsh crowd. I'm liking this signing more and more, and he may turn out to be Rafa's shrewdest buy of all.

Chelsea don't have it in the bag. Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are all capable of playing at and sustaining Chelsea's level of play, and they all have the squad to do so. One, maybe two of them won't keep it up, but one or two of them WILL, and I predict Chelsea will not win this year, it will be Liverpool or Arsenal, and never count out Man U. Spurs could even have a good run, or Newcastle.

Chelsea have had two years where they didn't encounter any or many Premier League bad patches. They won't do that again for a third. Like any other team, they will go through a bad patch this year and lose a few games, and it is up to one of the other big teams to avoid bad patches, get a few points lead over Chelsea, and maintain it. Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool are all capable of beating Chelsea home or away, or losing. They all must really raise their game and get something off Chelsea. I think they will do it.

Also, Chelsea's new squad may not gel. I like Ballack, but he's not as good as people think and won't fit at Chelsea. Shevchenko's absolutely class, but what of Drogba and Crespo and young star Soloman Kalou? How will that all work? Robben at his best could win the league on his own, but will he fit into the system? Will Lampard regain his form after a horrible world cup? Will Gallas play well, esp. if converted back to left back, knowing he wanted to leave and Mourinho wouldn't let him (same with Drogba)? Will Petr Cech finally make a few errors? So you have Joe Cole, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Maniche, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Claude Makelele, Damien Duff and Arjen Robben... that's just the MIDFIELD not the starting eleven. How do half of those guys deal with being one of the top 20 players in the world in their position and yet not starting for Chelsea? Squad rotation works really well... not! Chelsea won both their leagues by having a core 11 players. They just can't do that this time. And unless they loan out their stars, there is going to be some severe unrest. Wait and see how much Lampard whines the first day he is left out...

What will win Chelsea this title if they win is probably their defence again. Their bloody rock solid defence that seems to keep a clean sheet against anyone on any day unless Yakubu or Crouch happens to be on the other side :) defence will be key to this championship, if Arsenal can replicate their Champions League clean sheets, if Man U can get it together at the back (unlikely), if Liverpool play defensively as they did last season, with their new wing backs as good as I am told, then all three will be challengers.

So what is Chelsea's best 11 now?

It's like a fantasy football team.... I'd pick:

GK Cech
DEF Gallas, Terry, Essien (he has played df for Ghana and I hate Carvalho)
MID Makelele, Robben, Maniche, Joe Cole, Ballack
FWD Drogba, Shevchenko

That's really unfair to Lampard (who obviously would replace Maniche) and Carvalho (who I hate) and Kalou and also pathetic in that there are no wing backs and this team would lose, but it's more of a "people I couldn't leave out". I love watching Chelsea cause of all the stars and I love it even more when they lose. Like Real Madrid and Juventus, there's no-one I dislike more in football than Chelsea, even though I think individually, they have some of the best talents and the best manager in the world.

Enough about Chelsea.

Kaka has recently signed a new contract and I doubt Milan would want to let him go.

Milan sas also eyed Buffon so far.

Chelsea won't have a good season, their team is overpacked with star players who want to be leaders, didn't they learn anything from Real Madrid, better known as the Galactico?

If I were Mourinho I'd set my team like this:

Crespo Shevchenko

Robben Lampard Ballack Essien

Makelele

Gallas Terry P. Ferreira

Cech

as Mourinho, I couldn't possibly let Lampard warm the bench since he's my favorite and I couldn't possibly let our new expansive purchase warm the bench either, and I couldn't possibly let a skill like Makelele stay out since he is far more important than Lampard or Ballack so a 3-5-2 is inevitable.

I like Drogba, I think he's great, but sadly Crespo is better; I wish one of them would move so they'd get to be first 11 in some club.

Other players I would sadly bench:
Joe Cole, Asier Del Horno, Ricardo Carvalho
