here's what im gonna run for my quick easter game. i couldnt think of anything to do with easter besides finding golden eggs or something.

....well, i guess ill actually have them find golden eggs in it, but still.

http://www.dragonsfoot.org/php4/archive.php?sectioninit=SW&fileid=107&watchfile=

its called dungeon crawl. however, its not much of a dungeon crawl at all. its super short, and man, ill be damed if this isnt like a 6 page adventure. easy easy easy.

originally, its apparently a savage worlds module. never played it, didnt need to. i just needed a quick story.

a baron has a bunch of treasure, some thugs try and find where its hidden in his house. they cant find it. they torture the baron, he wont talk, they chop his legs off and kill him. with his last breath he curses the house. fast forward a few days, the thugs let loose a magical plague on the town and cant get back into the house because of the curse and monster infestation. the heros show up, the head thug poses as the "sheriff" and tasks the PCs with finding the treasure to help buy medicine for the town.

the PCs go in, fight monsters with no legs, the undead baron and his minions, get the treasure then SURPRISE, the thugs reveal their true identity, climatic fight, then we eat easter dinner.

If you want an golden egg adventure you could also base one off a tale of a goose that is laying golden eggs. Of course it would be real. Some ideas I just came up with:

It could just be some snake oil person trying to rip the local population off.

A illusionist that has gone too far with one of his pranks.

Somebody that just spread the tale around because they know it will draw adventures out with their precious loot they seem to carry around. Then it's ambush time.

Or maybe to keep a little bit with the holiday theme you could make it so you the person that makes the eggs admits he does fake golden eggs just for decoration and he pretends it's all just a neat innocent thing for some local celebration, but secretly inside the eggs is the very valuable and rare substance of chocolate (if chocolate is rare from where they are at) from a far away land that he then sells very cheaply to his contacts as phoney baubles as a way of funneling large sums of money for some nefarious organization.

hmm, thanks. im gonna throw some of these around and see what i can fit. i like the goose thing. and chocolate... thats not so horrible.

I started my first game online, via virtual table-top website roll20.net
It works as if you are using a table-top online and works well, for the most part. I started a game and had enough players to get going, unfortunately the second session only two players showed, and one dropped because there was not enough roleplaying and I couldn't get my mic on, plus although he didn't know, I was pretty stoned and the programme was getting me really confused really quickly. Lesson learnt. Not like getting stoned and roleplaying is a bad thing, but you know your just going to do really stupid shit then regret it later.

So as long as I don't get stoned, is anyone interested in playing on roll20.net

My basic setup was just to get familiar with the software, running standard setting in a Faerun pub and leading the a cemetery. But it supports most of the systems, and tiles and tokens can be uploaded or just searched in a database. Its pretty good, to at least try out.

\oh :edit and I have been listening to D&D audio book "The Orc King" while working the morning cleaning the massive hall where I work. I'd recommend the book or series to anyone who hasn't read a D&D book yet. RA Salvatore is a good storyteller, and Ed Greenwood is a great author too.

what time do you play? and what version do you play?

This is a very good question at the moment Squallumz :p Because as for time, I am looking at around past 12pm GMT, but means I can only play for around 2 hours. This is currently how it stands with me for full mic and cam chat. Any other times I am good aslong as it does not interfere with work, but I can only use text chat to communicate.

I could possibly play twice a week. I think this works because the lack of physical immersion is reimbursed with more play.

I play 4ed and would be happy to make characters in other game systems, as long as the GMs would be cool with new players, *hint hint Petra* Although I have played a bit of CoC now. I am neither fussed with running or playing, I am happy as either.

I'll take a look when I have some time. ;-)

Well, yesterday was another action packed game. One player couldn't make it so his character never awakened during the night (he has a flaw I'm exploiting in his absence) so the players made a plan to move on while his body is being guarded by ghouls. Anyways, they get to the village that their vampire holding uses as food and find they've encircled the walls with salt. Unfortunately, none of them really know if salt will keep vampires out or not (it doesn't unless someone has a flaw that makes them think it's true). So the players made it clear that when the body arrives to be buried (they told them their friend is very religious and doesn't want to have anything to do with superstitions) it's to be buried outside the circle of salt.

The villagers weren't buying this so one of them rolled a persuasion roll and got about 8 successes. He was trying to convince the villagers salt was ungodly, which caused a huge debate by the town council on if they should throw all salt out because it's not holy.

Gotta love players.

At least they didn't try to convince the townsfolk that they are really good vampires, and will only bite people people when they want to be bitten and are ready. To prove that they would show their sparkliness.

Haha. This is true.

Currently they're in 1035AD and most people still believe in the boogyman, though there are christian orders sprinkled through europe already. So they can throw a lot of weight around with being vampires and not have the inquisition come after them. I'm not sure what will happen once they hit the 1400s and the Masquerade is created...they're already walking talking masquerade breaches. ;-)

i wonder if my players will use any metagaming knowledge they have about vampires to deal with my vampires when they come.

the top dog in my game is a vampire (count strahd von zarovich) but they haven't met him yet. also, they have only discovered a few bitten bodies so far and did not destroy them. by the next night (in game), those people are going to rise again and be actual vampires.

so this will be the switch between zombies to vampires, now that they have dealt with the ritual that was creating zombies.

running water, salt, holy symbols, holy water, im gonna have to figure out which ones are true and which ones are simply folk lore.

this should be good.

I guess if somebody comes up with a garlic infused holy water put in a holy symbol that's attached to a stake and is clear so sunlight shows through by a flowing river with a house nearby that the vampire is not invited into you know they have went too far. :1orglaugh

For how much they know it might depend on how much about vampires are common knowledge. I don't think I would go through a Ravenloft type setting without some type of cleric or at least somebody else that would be knowledgeable about such things anyhow.

You can always run it like vampire...some are true for some vampires and not for others. That way they have no idea what will work or won't.

If you want to have an idea of all sorts of weaknesses you can give them, look up owod vampire merits and flaws.

im sending out an email to my players in a bit regarding the addition of flaws. im also gonna ask em for a small background story too. im also going to incorporate the SW bennies system.

this will give the game a welcomed twist.

i sent them an XP bribe for proper character backgrounds including flaws and merits. (DM approved, of course)

convincing the one player who i am currently sticking it to proves to be more difficult. should i spank her?
