I guess it wouldn't be good to mention I like Pathfinder the best and really dislike 4th edition, although I have nothing against the people that play it. (I still resent some things Hasbro and WotC did though.) I can also see how somebody that started with it might have a better view on it than somebody that started playing D&D way back. I wouldn't be surprised if less people would dislike it, if not play it, if it would never had the D&D attached to it's name.
I do feel sorry for the big 4th edition fans though. Not only will 4th be ending soon, but unless things change history probably isn't going to look back to fondly on it overall in the minds of RPG fans or people in the industry. It's mainly going to thought of as the thing that shredded the D&D fan base and allowed somebody else for the first time since it D&D existed to have a RPG that not only could compete with it but in all likelihood has superseded it. what people don't consider is all the people (like myself) who never played a tabletop rpg until 4th. this is my first game and edition. i love it. and my girl loves it. and my sister, and all the other 10 people ive played with. my group loves it. hell, im leaving in a few minutes for another session when we just gamed the night before last.

im currently reading through ravenloft 3.5 and playing it in 4th. its the very same game. there are no differences. people just bitch about new editions every time there is a new edition. i get it, you dont want to be outdated, but what is to stop you from playing your edition of choice? nothing. nothing but bitching about it.
as everyday passes, i become more and more pissed off at pathfinder fans. why? because they are the only ones putting down 4e like they get 100 bucks every time they say something negative. its seriously fucking mental. now, im not saying you're doing it or anything (we cool
), but i cant tell you how many people in my meetup group and online have so much shit to talk about their PF superiority and how 4th is bullshit. why be negative? i mean, im not walking around calling PF bullshit every chance i get.
roleplaying is roleplaying. i dont know what everyone else is doing but i make up a story, draw up a map, open my monster manual, and play. its not like we take shits on our boards and move around the turds and occasionally roll a d20.

as a playtester of 5th, aka Next, the core is the same. the only thing i see different is they dumbed down the character sheets. they took away all the individual skills and simplified it to the main ability scores instead of a perception, thievery, religion, etc section.
i thought thats what people were bitching about, shit being too simple. you make up a story, draw a map, describe the world, and fight a few monsters. really.. what the hell already?

Honestly, I can see why people hate 4th edition so much, it's basically a totally different game. What I personally like about it (Or liked, I don't have much time to play anymore) was that friends who have never played anything like that before could easily get into it and understand what was going on right from session one. I even got a bunch of my girlfriends into playing which is fucking insane.

Here's my modest dice collection. It's definitely not as big as some people's, but at least it's probably bigger than cheapskate Anders' collection. If I counted correctly that's 44 sets of dice, and about another three assorted pounds of them. I hope you appreciate that I had to dig through a couple bags just to get all those sets together. Those last d4s of a set are sometimes freaking hard to find at the bottom of a dice bag. :1orglaugh
On another note, it also looks like it's getting closer to me starting to GM a game again. I have somebody that's even put some feelers out with his friends to see who would be interested.

Just for the hell of it. I got mine so I could fit a set into the pocket of my jeans, because even baggy womens jeans have ridic small and tight pockets. Super annoying. Means I have to sit super close to the DM/ST though so they can see what I'm doing but thats ok because DM always has the tasty food closest to him haha

Somehow I get the feeling that person doesn't think you being supper close is a problem either.
I might be able to put up with small dice in that situation.By the standards of somebody that just has a handful of dice so they can play the game it's probably a lot, but for people that actually collect them it would still be modest and pale in comparison to a lot of their collections.

Amazing huh? That's good...I can focus on other things. ;-)
On one hand, I think Wizards did a good job bringing in new gamers with 4th. I think it's a lot more rules light for a d20 game and not as "scary" for new people. However, I also thing they burned a pretty big bridge with their established consumer base by no longer supporting 3.5, which so many people invested lots of money into.
Really, when I talk to people about 4th, that's what it came down to. They just spent all sorts of money in the 3.5 books and suddenly they're useless for the next edition where you could still use 3e books with 3.5 with very little conversion or tinkering.
Now they're about to totally piss off their 4e fan base, who just invested in the 4e material by putting out 5e just 2 years later. I hope for Wizards they made some easy conversion between the 2 because people just don't have the cash to spend on yet a whole new set of material.
That's why there's Savage Worlds. The motto is Fast, Furious, Fun. No confusing modifiers (you're sitting pretty if you can get a +2 on something), no confusing stats as the dice type IS the stat, no confusing combat rules or long drawn out battles. If you roll a 4 or better, you succeed on most things. Even with 6 people at the table they can get through a battle scene in 10 minutes flat, and that's long for SW.
The best thing about this? The paperback version of the book is $11 and that's all you need to play. You don't need a suitcase to drag around the 25 different books for a session. If you're DM decides to play a SW setting, it gets shocking. The DM at least needs the setting book for the grand total of 2 books. :eek:

One of these days I need to gather all mine up and take a pic. I think in total I have somewhere around 4 pounds of dice.
I did good this year though, I came away from Conception with an expansion for Gloom and a Dark Ages supplement for World of Darkness. No dice.
I shall remember this comment for next Friday.

I got that picture because I just got a hold of a new tablet. (That's also why the picture quality sucks.) So I don't have to lug around that suitcase and still take along a lot of books. Another plus is that I can now play games on the computer without having to constantly alt-tab and back to read a walkthough while doing it. It's too bad the pdf reader that came with it sucks and I don't have access to Wi-Fi yet. I have to find a public place that has it that I also feel secure enough using passwords and other things though it. (BTW if anybody knows any third party places to pick up some free apps or places where the makers of them put them for download on their websites can you point them out. Stupid google play won't let me download apps to my computer so I can put them on my tablet, even the free stuff.)

What tablet did you get? I just got a Nexus 7 and LOVE IT for DMing (not having to tab to walkthroughs is also a big plus heh).
