Female officer: “can you stop [the video] now?”
Male officer 1: “Ready for the pop? Hear the pop?”
Male officer 2: “what’d you pop?”
MO 1: “I think it was her shoulder.”
FO: “I hate this.”
MO: “What?”
FO: “I hate this.”
MO (laughing): “I love it.”

A dislocated shoulder and fractured wrist. At least she wasn't killed.

It doesn't just matter who they're owned by. It also matters what their source is.

The police need funding and guns, but they also need some serious reform and training.
Cut funding to corporate welfare, which saves at least a trillion dollars, then use that money for better police training.

Why do we think more $ equals less crime?

Let's take for instance my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. One of great cities in our nation and truly the most American of American cities. The police budget for fiscal 2020 was $2 billion, the 3rd largest in the nation. With such resources you'd think crime would be at an all time low. Wrong! shootings and carjackings have spiked since last year. Conservatives always like to say that the government should be run like a business. Well if CPD was a business they should've been fired a long time ago.

Intuitively we think problems can be solved by throwing more money at the problems. It is rarely that simple.

Government - like schools, policing, and other social services - should not be run like a business. In fact, conservatives should be laughed at for saying such things. No business stays in business very long when cash outflows exceed cash inflows.

In the policing argument, is it better to address the cause (why are crimes committed) or the symptoms (punishment after the fact)?

Not to pick on Atlanta, but here's its mayor discussing why murders are up 58% in her city
"Remember in Georgia we were opened up before the rest of the country, even before the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) said that it was safe for us to open, so our night clubs and our bars remained open, so we had people traveling here from across the country to party in our city.”

Of course cures are from addressing causes, addressing the symptoms do nothing to help cure anything - the cure for the common cold is not simply more blankets or more beatings.

In the policing argument any sort out punishment is simply revenge by the state on behalf the people - and proven worldwide to be ineffective in reducing our deterring crimes, there is not a single country worldwide that has successfully eliminated crimes by deterrence/punishments.

They need a culture change away from policing(bullying) people, towards peacekeeping.

Don't give them anymore money, they'll say they spent it and need more to put their union members through Harvard - and every year demand more at the very minimum to match yearly inflation. Defund and disarm them.

Meanwhile they train their members to lord over those their supposed to serve and protect, train their members to bully us and tell us they know better than us, train their members pain compliance techniques(torture) etc.

Harvard? You have to be kidding. Harvard is certainly not populated with union members.

Attitudes toward policing are driven by personal experience and the Zip Code where one sleeps.

Disarming and defunding seem like aspirational goals. Not very practical though. Reforming the system in would seem to be very practical - and prudent.

Yeah Harvard is exaggeration, but the amount funding police as you know are not exaggerated.

My point being that reforming the system should include exploring peacekeeping over policing - because policing is associated with bullying because of the police culture we've all seen over the centuries.
