Congress Considers Hitting Mute On Loud TV Ads

Anyone who watches TV can tell you: When the commercials come on, it feels like you're being blasted by volume. At some point, we've all reached for the mute button, because those ads are so much louder than the shows surrounding them.

But do TV commercials really have to be louder than the TV programs? That's what Congress is deciding right now.

While commercials on television definitely seem louder than the programs, in a way, they're not. Here's how it works: Commercials are allowed to air at the peak level for all programming — the level of explosions, car crashes or cops yelling at criminals to get down on the ground. So if your TV show is having a quiet moment, or if it's a quiet show like a bowling tournament, then the commercials are going to feel like they're blasting you out of your seat.
FINALLY a member of government did something for the people! I've changed the channel I don't know how many times because I get really pissed when a commercial comes on and blasts my ear drums. Our tax dollars hard at work! :nanner:

Definitely more important things to worry about but this would take away a nuisance that bothers almost all of America. Everyone hates loud ass commercials.

It's too bad that it takes the strong arm of government to do something about this but, oh well, I wasn't going to be patronizing any of these ''blaster commercial'' businesses anyway.

Ha ! duracell and the energizer bunny aren't gonna be selling as many batteries now :sniffle:

Well its about damn time they did somethin rite.

Yeah, but it might start a precedent for the FCC to get involved areas where we don't want them. Just look at the limited power that the FCC had when it was founded and compare it with all they do today, the creeping bureaucracy that they've become. :hammer:

If you want to progress on the "creeping bureuacracy' idea you might like to check out the work of this guy. I'm not endorsing him but it is an interesting viewpoint and set out in some detail.

Quote.

Mommsen has argued that the Holocaust arose as a result of the relationship between a aloof, but fanatically anti-semitic leader with a highly disorganized structure of the Nazi regime. [2] In Mommsen's opinion, with the chaotic struture of the Third Reich with an endless number of departments and offices locked into bureaucratic turf wars with one another, the only way to success was ability to carry out what was believed to be Hitler's vision, which led to increasing competition to win the favor of a distant and lazy leader. Yep ! Ya can't get blood out of a stone.

There are three things that keep this anti free enterprising government afloat : private sector incomes via confiscatory / oppressive tax rates, china and the printing presses.
I swear, Warren G. Harding is smiling somewhere. :hammer:
