Christianity, as many religions are, is based off text that was scribed thousands of years ago. And, instead of following the original text, people - not God, but people - have translated and interpreted those texts in order to fit the convenience of their lives.

I don't know how a believer in the Christian God can claim otherwise or act as if people aren't supposed to listen to The Word of God directly - rather, that they are supposed to use His words and orders as nothing more than a "guide".

Ok, let's say that the true word really IS "murder" and not "kill". Did the word "murder" exist in the year 0? If so, why was the translation incorrect when The Bible was first translated? If the word "murder" existed when The Bible was written, why the long term confusion?

Your attributing motive is correct, but we don't know if in that particular case, the translation was changed to kill.
Also, isn't that counter to your point? Seeing that warfare was as much of a fact of life in the time period which the bible was written (and things got even bloodier in the interceding 1700 years or so) wouldn't it behoove them to make it murder then and not now?

Huh? No...my point isn't what the correct translation or interpretation is.
Everything in The Bible, according to Christianity, was originally The Word of God. Over time, human beings made their own versions of what they thought The Bible should or shouldn't say. The Bible, as we know it today, is nothing like the original text. There have been additions, subtractions, retractions and countless interpretations made by countless numbers of various people over the years.
With that being said, my point is - there shouldn't be an 'interpretation' of The Bible.
If someone believes in the Christian God, they believe that God's story is true. And, if that's the case, then they believe that God directed a select few to transcribe The Bible, telling of His story. So, the original text of The Bible, according to the Christian faith, is what they should be following. Yet, it's not. They follow loosely transcribed, edited and interpreted versions of the original Bible. Which, on a personal note, is hilarious to me, considering that Christians believe in God and the story of God - which clearly states that The Bible is The Word of God - which Christians have turned into The Word of Man.

How do you know you have the right interpretation if you're not
recncilling it against the fundamental text (if all you're doing is cherry-picking bits and pieces of said text)?
