A powerful campaign by British Muslims to condemn the actions of the Islamic State militant movement is gaining momentum.
“Not in my name”, led by the Active Change Foundation, is attempting to counter the presence of extremism on social media.
The campaign was praised in the recent speech by the US President to the UN General Assembly.
President Obama said the whole world, especially Muslim communities, had to expose and publicly renounce the ideologies of hatred and violence.
He added the militants cannot be allowed to continue “perverting one of the world’s great religions”.
The “Not in my name” campaign has now spread to other countries too.

Muslims in France are gathering for a demonstration in Paris against extremist violence after the videotaped beheading of a French mountaineer.
Friday's protest comes a day after the main mosque in Paris called for the demonstration against the killings happening in the name of their religion. It also comes in the wake of the launch earlier this week by British Muslims of a social media campaign "#notinmyname" in response to the Islamic State group.
Many Western Muslims are torn between their fury at the atrocities committed in the name of Islam and frustration that they have to defend themselves at all. The head of the Bordeaux mosque said any demonstration should include all religions.

Thousands of Muslims in Germany have taken part in a "Day of Peace" to protest against the Islamic State extremist group.
The event was organized by mainstream Muslim organizations to emphasize that the vast majority of believers reject the group's ideology and its brutal actions in Syria and Iraq.
The head of Germany's Central Council of Muslims, Aiman Mazyek, said the protest Friday was also directed against racism and intolerance in general, citing recent attacks on mosques and synagogues in Europe.

Norway's prime minister and other politicians have joined Muslim leaders and thousands of other people for a demonstration in Oslo against radical Islamists.
Monday's rally was an initiative by young Norwegian Muslims who wanted to show a united front against Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq and their sympathizers in Norway.
Mehtab Afshar, head of the Islamic Council in Norway, told the crowd: "They stand for terrorism, they stand for terror ... and we condemn that in the strongest terms."
A small radical group in Norway has expressed support for Islamic State militants, angering moderate Muslims in immigrant communities in the country.
According to the Norwegian security service at least 50 people have left Norway to become foreign fighters for militant groups in Syria.

Oklahoma Muslims insist their beliefs do not coincide with those of radical extremists in the Middle East.
Today, they take a stand and say enough of being grouped with terrorists.
A rally was held at Penn Square Mall to protest ISIS and promote peace.
The rally was planned last week by people who feel passionately about their religion.
With all the controversy surrounding Islam, we decided to see what Oklahomans knew.
ISIS is a radical Muslim group that uses Islam to justify killings around the world.
But members of the Islam community insist not everyone sees the world through the ISIS lens.
“ISIS that what you see on TV, the radical group to Islam is like the KKK to Christianity. You might claim that the KKK is not a Christian organization but they went to church every Sunday and the cross was the biggest there is and they quoted the Bible they justify killing African-Americans through verses in the Bible,” senior Imam at the Greater Oklahoma Islamic Society, Imad Enchassi said.
We asked Oklahomans how much they know about Islam.
Some told us they had actually read the Quran.
“They’re pretty radical in the Quran so I can see where they got some of the radical beliefs but I do believe most Muslims are peaceful.” One man said.
Others were clueless about the religion but wanted to speak up.
“Just like any other religion you’re going to have people that get a little crazy and extreme and that’s not different than Christianity and God knows there are plenty of people who act that way,” another woman told us.
Then this came up.
“That nut representative, what he said is not true. I do you know that I do know that I know they’re not about killing Christians,” another lady says.
One woman said fast food was more likely to kill us then Muslims.
In the end, most people did not know much about Islam but Oklahomans we spoke with agree on this.
“I think most of them are loving and caring people and I feel bad they got such a bad name,” the man who read the Quran said.
Members of CAIR say they’ll continue to hold protests to promote peace.

![]()
Muslims outraged at the brutal beheadings carried out by Islamic State are expressing their disgust with their own version of the Ice Bucket Challenge - the Burn Isis Flag Challenge.
Activists in Lebanon have been using social media to share pictures and video of people setting fire to the black and white IS flag, after barbaric killings including those of US journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff.
Using the hastags #BurnISISFlagChallenge and #BurnISIS, activists then ask others to do the same.
One tweet said: "I nominate the whole world to the #BurnISISFlagChallenge. You have 24 hours. GO!!"
On a video of a burning flag, viewed more than 100,000 times, it also said: "ISIS are not ISLAM nor do they represent ISLAM and muslims."
The viral trend is thought to have been started by a group of Lebanese students outraged by the spread of IS in their country and the beheading of a Lebanese army officer.
