I put Apocolypse Now up there with Full Metal Jacket and Platoon. However I do like that home from Vietnam film, I think De Niro was in it, the name was of the movie was "Jack Knife" I think. He played a veteran at home adjusting from the war. Has anyone seen that movie?

^Yeah, I saw that, it's OK but a little like a TV movie, worth seeing though.

DeNiro's best portrayal of a Vietnam vet is Taxi Driver. ;)

Oh I know this isn't a movie set during the Vietname war but after it, Uncommon Valor with Gene Hackman, and my favorite in the film Randall "Tex" Cobb as Sailor was a good post Vietnam War film.

I still have a special affection for FMJ circa '87.

Watch 3:30
:D
an M-14 in one hand and nuts in the other.

But seriously, to answer the thread question - All of the usual suspect films that have already been named certainly deserve merit.

84C MoPic was different, saw it back in '89. Apocalypse Now is one of the better Vietnam films but is Coppola's vision of how weird and hallucinogenic the war appeared to him.

After a while all the 'Nam films were so cliche by 1990. They all followed the same recipe....Show some Hueys, add random 1960s song, show guys dressed in jungle fatigues and steel pots with M-16s.

I love FOrest Gump but it is a comedian movie. I would say full metallic jacket is surely the best Nam movie. It has a bit of comedy but in middle of the movie it comes to a very drammatic and horrible events. But it has also the events in the beginnig where rev.Pile has shot himself. too bad for him.

Full Metal Jacket, I also like Platoon or Apocalipsa..but FMJ is movie I could watch over and over again few years ago. The last scene when they starts to sing, it cannot be described with words that feeling I had when I saw it for the first time.
