The Kevin Ward Jr. death. How ugly can it possibly get?

Very true. That was just weird. And especially since it was the guy who ran over him (Tony Stewart) who popularized being a dumbass by walking onto a hot track to show your displeasure with another driver.

For those who haven't heard, NASCAR driver Tony Stewart ran over another driver he'd been battling with after the other guy got out of his sprint car and walked onto the track... killing him instantly. [NOBABE]The kid[/NOBABE] was a total dumbass for walking out onto the track. But if reports that Stewart accelerated as he approached Ward prove true, he *could be* facing criminal charges. We'll see what happens.

I don't see how even the biggest asshole in racing would consider hitting a pedestrian on purpose. I don't know much about dirt racing but it was a half mile track. Not one of those Daytona things that they race 4 across in 2 mile loops. It's the size of a small harness racing track. Only 8 horses fit across it. That's tight for cars to negotiate. They must be going at least 60mph so the loop is less than a minute. The car was on the wall just out of the first turn and Ward was in the middle of the track. Not much room coming out of that turn and now seeing someone in the middle of the track. What the fuck was he thinking walking around out there?

I only saw this incident in isolation and know nothing about the drivers' history and tendencies but walking on the track to show your frustration to another driver is not a wise move. Have it out with him after the race... Surely it is not only driving practice but common sense to get the hell out of there once your car has been totalled / broken down? He lost his head and paid the ultimate price. As for the driver that hit him, it's a difficult one... you simply don't expect to find yourself having to negotiate people walking across the track! I highly doubt he took him out deliberately. By the time he saw him it was probably too late.

I'm not a Tony Stewart fan, as I've always thought of him as giant asshole... very talented, but still a giant asshole. But even as a giant asshole, it's hard for me to imagine that he would actually hit the guy on purpose. But now, I could see him hitting the gas and trying to scare the shit out of the guy... kinda like playing chicken. Did he try to do that and the guy zigged when Stewart thought he would zag? I'm not saying that's what happened. I don't know. But now more stories are coming out that are not in Stewart's favor.

Tony Stewart crash that killed Kevin Ward was avoidable, says racer Paul Kinney

POLICE have intensified their probe into whether NASCAR driver Tony Stewart intentionally mowed down and killed a rival — while another racer said he thought the tragedy could have been avoided.

Paul Kinney — who was also competing when Stewart’s car struck driver Kevin Ward Jr. on a dirt track in Canandaigua on Saturday — said he clearly saw Ward on the track and managed to dodge him himself.

“I seen Kevin clear as day. Nobody else ran into him, either,” he told NBC News, noting he was close enough to see Ward’s face after the 20-year-old stepped out of his car, angrily gesturing at Stewart.

“It’s not a good idea to get out of your car and run towards other cars,’’ Kinney said.

As for Stewart: “Nobody can speak for Tony. Only Tony knows exactly what happened,” Kinney said.

Ward got out of his car and ran onto the track to confront Stewart.

As Stewart raced by, he appeared to hit the throttle, fishtailing and striking Ward.

Stewart, 43, hasn’t been criminally charged in Ward’s death, but TV legal analyst Rob Becker said it’s likely he will be.

“What happens when you hit that throttle is the car is going to move to the right ... Stewart had to know that if he hit the throttle with a man standing on the dirt to his right, there was a good chance the car would hit him, which means there’s a good chance he could be killed,” Becker told Fox Sports 1.

“To me, that’s reckless homicide. That’s manslaughter in the second degree.”

Ontario County Sheriff’s Department officials said that Stewart — known for his temper on the track — was questioned Saturday and Sunday and that there were currently no plans to question him again.

Well, it's an interesting one. The only thing I would say that I forgot to mention in my previous post is that it did look slightly odd to me when I first saw it... not what I was expecting. Only watched it twice I think... but it's not exactly the kind of thing you want to watch over and over...

It's incidents like this where on-board cameras and telemetry would come in handy to see if there were any sudden movements/accelerations/attempts to avoid him! It's kinda inconclusive from the angle I saw, which as far as I'm aware is the only one available(?).

Still, very difficult to believe someone could do that to a fellow racer, no matter how high tensions may have been between them.

2 Bottom lines here:
1)That kid shouldn't have gotten out of the car.....PERIOD!
Those fucking cars are all over the track and hard to control.
He just wanted to make a name for himself by going after a NASCAR legend like Stewart.
It was a deadly, bad decision.
2) Tony Stewart has no business driving these go-karts at these hick tracks on his day off.
I don't care how much he likes to drive. Nothing good can come of him driving against these amateurs and this is the worst kind of example of it.
He's worth millions and is a part owner of his race team and is too important to subject himself to shit like this.

You don't see Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon driving as much as a Bumper car on their off days, do ya?
No, because they are corporations unto themselves and thousands of people depend on them to make their livings.

Plus, Rick Hendrick......I'm sure, has it in their contracts that they can't,

Smoke=Not Guilty

Good post except that people fail to realize that Tony Stewart races at these tracks to help promote that kind of racing. Himself and Kasey Kahne take the time to visit and race at these small tracks because they understand how important every dollar earned and every butt in the seat is critical to the tracks survival.
And of course he's not guilty of anything is just stupid to even speculate.

It is going to be interesting to see what, if any, punishment is meted out for Rosberg from the team. Totally unsporting move from him.

Well, I've been wanting to give Nico the benefit of the doubt up until now but you have to say you have to be more that a little suspicious of his antics this season. At the time of the Monaco qualifying incident, I thought it was simply a mistake at the time and have held onto that belief for quite some time. I didn't think anything of this latest incident either at the time, and put it down as just a racing incident that was bound to happen sooner or later if they were still being allowed to race each other. However, the comments and storm that has erupted after the race don't paint him in a good light.

I've not wanted to believe any of the cynical views on Rosberg as I didn't have him down as "that type of driver / person". I don't think he's ever done anything in Formula 1 prior to this season to make be question his integrity. I've always held him in high regard.

He has been brilliant this season, and exceeded everyone's expectation - however he has benefited from an enormous amount of luck as far as the battle with Lewis is concerned, and he actually would seem to be resorting to dishonorable measures to get the upper hand as well. It's looks as if he is adopting a "win at all costs attitude". You could argue that that's what F1 greats have had as part of the make-up but nobody really wants to see that kind of behavior. We want to see a fair, straight fight.

Having a hard time computing this as I'm having to change my entire opinion of him. Say it ain't so...

I don't doubt that Lewis & Nico have held a good friendship over the years (in fact you could clearly see it post-Bahrain), and yes it is true when people say you can't remain true friends as competitors... but this has taken things way beyond that.

This complete break-down in relations makes you wonder how they can continue to be team-mates past this season and how Mercedes can continue to operate as a team.

It would make for an interesting shake up it the drivers market. In fact, at the moment I'd say that Red Bull is the only team that is nailed on to keep the same driver line-up for next year.

Yesterday the Grand Jury gave a "No Bill" on the Tony Stewart investigation, which means there will be no charges against him in the Kevin Ward accident.

and kevin ward was high during the race, should have stayed in his car, when it happened i was like what are you doing you brought it on yourself, you would still be alive if you had your full judgment instead of being clouded by drugs

One has to wonder how this will affect Tony Stewart going forward. Since he's always been an (overly) aggressive driver, will this cause him to dial it down a notch or two? My guess is it will. But who knows?

With nothing official to say otherwise, I say Vettel is joining the Nissan LMP1 squad ;)

Rumors of Honda signing Alonso over Ron Dennis' head and even being behind a move to oust Dennis from McLaren and replace him with Gerhard Berger (a former McLaren and Ferrari man) are circulating still. This is set to be the silliest of silly seasons!!! No more Montezemolo at Ferrari. No more Alonso at Ferrari. And Ferrari (the main company) about to be spun off in an IPO. What happens with the racing team and how will it be funded... since it's a separate entity?

IndyCar schedule released for 2015

Toyota Racing took its second consecutive FIA World Endurance Championship 1-2 finish at Shanghai today with the #8 Toyota TS 040 Hybrid heading home the #7 car to further extend the championship lead to 42pts. Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi finished the race 1m12s ahead of their stable mates – Alex Wurz, Stephane Sarrazin and Kazuki Nakajima, after another dominant display by the Japanese manufacturer in front of a huge crowd.

G-Drive Racing scored a conclusive victory in LMP2 with Olivier Pla, Roman Rusinov and Julien Canal further reducing the championship points deficit to just eight. Sergey Zlobin finished third on track but second in the points in the #27 SMP Racing Oreca-Nissan along with team mates Nicolas Minassian and Maurizio Mediani. Taking a very creditable runner-up position was the Tequila Patron-backed car #30 Extreme Speed Motorsports HPD LMP2 car of Ryan Dalziel, Scott Sharp and Ricardo Gonzalez although, as a single-race entrant, the team does not score points.

Porsche Team Manthey took a 1-2 finish in the LMGTE Pro category after a trouble-free run, and Aston Martin Racing celebrated its third consecutive 1-2 result in the Am class. This result ensures that Aston Martin Racing cannot be caught in the FIA Endurance Trophy for LMGTE Am Teams although it won’t be known until at least Bahrain if it will be the No.95 or No.98 which finishes on top.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
Was proud of Ryan Newman for doing what he had to do to qualify for the championship. Makes Jeff Gordon's whining and pouting look childish and hypocritical. Gordon never minded bumping anyone at Bristol, Pocono, Richmond, Martinsville. But, let it happen to him, and the Hendrick teams act like dip shits.
