Re: Audi wins again!

For the last decade and a half, Audi has dominated World Endurance Championship racing. It would be easy to dismiss yesterday's 13th Le Mans 24 Hour Race win for the company in 16 years as "same stuff, different year." In that time, it has significantly changed the world's perception of diesel engines, flywheel batteries and hybrid power trains, yet yesterday's win is probably its finest achievement.
I was like "Oh, Audi did it again." But that's actually a really good point you've made.

Well, I guess after digging himself a hole in qualifying, a 2nd place is about as good as Lewis could expect. But if Mercedes wasn't consistently making his pitstops 1 second per stop longer than Nico's, he actually would/should have been ahead by 1.5 seconds at the end, instead of .5 seconds behind. Good job by Nico in Austria though.

BTW, I've seen SCCA teams deploy better strategy than Williams GP did during that race. They need to hire Ross Brawn and get him to teach them how to set a strategy that works. What a waste of a pole position.

To show you how retarded people have become. One of the reasons the safety car was finally introduced to F1 for 93, was to avoid the pain in the arse that was using the standing start for re-starts! :brick:

Yeah, I don't like this gimmicky idea either. I finally got around to watching the GP2 race from Monaco last night. And as is usually the case, GP2 always puts itself out there as one of the best pure racing series on the planet. Other than the mandatory stop, no gimmicks. Just pure, balls out racing!

I'm OK with F1 reintroducing the titanium skip blocks. But they're doing it as a gimmick, solely to make sparks. The flying sparks are one of the things that always wowed me about F1 racing back in the day. But to mandate the blocks JUST for that purpose just strikes me as fake and show-bizzy. Well, at least they're going to kill off these ugly-ass noses next year. That alone will make me feel better about watching. Is that Ferrari not the ugliest racing car in racing today? I know the modern LMP cars are pretty ugly too (IMO). But that "Hoover vacuum" Ferrari F14-T is one ugly girl.

And speaking of the Ferrari F1 team, here's some surprising news.

Haas Automation partners with Ferrari F1 team

Gene Haas is to become a sponsor of Scuderia Ferrari before launching his own team in 2016, the Italian team has announced. Haas Automation logos will appear on the F14 T from this weekend’s race in Britain. :)clap:)

Ferrari has always been the intended partner for Haas, despite Mercedes also being mentioned. However, today’s announcement stopped short of confirming that a deal for Haas to use Ferrari engines and other technology has been done, saying only that discussions are still ongoing.

Rule changes for 2015 mean that Haas needs only to own the IP of his chassis and bodywork, and he can buy everything else he needs from Ferrari.

“Haas Automation is a premium brand, and there’s no better way to drive that point home than to connect it with Scuderia Ferrari on motor racing’s biggest stage,” said Haas. “Scuderia Ferrari is F1’s most prestigious and decorated team with a large, loyal and passionate fan base. Exposing Scuderia Ferrari fans and Ferrari customers to the quality of Haas Automation CNC machine tools is an important first step to expanding our global reach.”

“We are pleased to welcome Haas Automation as our newest Official Supplier,” said team boss Marco Mattiacci. “This agreement strengthens our existing connections with the USA, an important market not only for our company, but also for Scuderia Ferrari, as it is one where the team already benefits from several important partnerships.

“Over the past few months, we have been exploring with Haas a number of potential areas of collaboration, and this agreement is an immediate opportunity that we are pursuing, which proves Haas’ interest in Formula One.

To me, the coolest part is that Haas' machine tools may now go into use at the most famous operation in the world of racing. I've been a big fan of Haas for a long time. I just wish people would leave the man alone about whether or not he's going to put that half-talent, 30+ year old Danica in his F1 car... someone who's never won a road course race in her life... yeah, she sure does deserve to be in F1, huh?! He's done a good job of trying to be nice in saying "no". But the fluff-heads and whiny feminist types just won't let it go. She couldn't win a road course race in the sad IRL spec series. What the hell would she be doing in Formula One... other than opening her shirt before getting her picture taken?! Leave Gene Haas alone and let the man try to build something Americans can be proud of... not ashamed of!

Tbh, I'd much rather look at an ugly girl (that I don't think is as ugly as you do) than a penis.

Is it even worth doing? An American F1 team, is like setting up an England NFL team.

Heard by a fly on the wall during a phone call from Toto Wolff, Executive Director of Mercedes AMG F1 Team, to Dietrich Mateschitz (owner of Red Bull F1):

"So... uh... Dietrich, my Teutonic homey, how about I trade you Lewis Hamilton for Sebastian Vettel? Did you see what that rap-star wannabe just did during qualifying?! I know Hamilton has just gotten on my last nerve and Seb has surely worked your last nerve by now. And I'll even sweeten the pot. If you'll agree to put her in a 3 or 4 year old Red Bull F1 car, and she'll leave me alone about ever racing in F1, I'll let you bang my little blonde haired, bag of bones every third Monday of the month. Deal??? Please? Don't like Susie? OK, hell... I'll blow you myself if I can just get rid of Hamilton's goofy, brainless ass and this talentless shrew, full of fantasies, I have for a wife! Now do we have a deal? Please?! PLEASE!!! :wiggle:

Doncha just hate an overly opinionated dumbass... like the guy above this post?!

So anyway, at least when it comes to preparing and eating crow, I'm a better cook than even Mariah Milano. What I like to do is to first, after all the feathers, mites and fleas have been removed, is soak the bird in an olive oil and basil marinate. 3-4 hours usually gets that gamey taste out - now dump the smelly, curdled marinate down the drain (shoo-wee!). Then apply a light butter coating, squeeze lemon juice drippings across the body and bake the bird for a good 2 hours at approximately 350 degrees. Slice it into portions and for a better taste, spread some pig feces across the slices you're about to eat.

And there you have it, my friends.

BTW, way to prove all of your know-it-all, fair-weather fans (*cough cough* :busted:) wrong, Lewis. Even if Rosberg's car hadn't broken down, you'd already outsmarted him by laying back while he used his tires up at the end of that first stint. Then you did the same on the second stint. Him breaking down just saved him the humiliation of you catching and passing him. But where you would have made up a net of 7 points 1st to 2nd (for Rosberg), now you've slammed a net +25 in the bank! Nice gain of points to take the WDC battle to within 4. You da man, today, Lewis. Bravo! :hatsoff:

And BTW, your girlfriend really is about 200% hotter than that tranny that Nico is dating. Hopefully he/she has a nice personality to make up for that mug she's got (more crow on the way for me?). But today is your day. Congrats to you and all your British fans.

Absolutely. He's not so much doing it for the sporting side as much as the B2B business side. That's why he's already sponsoring the Ferrari F1 team. He wants to show the manufacturing world that Ferrari has already trusted him to provide them with the latest & greatest toys from Haas (they really do make some damn nice stuff). Haas Automation is already the dominant CNC machine tool manufacturer in North America. But Europe has been a tougher nut to crack. Apart from a few Euro outfits, that market is still dominated by the Japanese: Okuma, Miyano, Mori Seiki, Mazak, etc. When it comes to automation and robotics, the Japanese really are the top dogs. I know McLaren, Williams, Force India and Lotus (I believe) all use Japanese advanced, 5+ axis CNC machine tools in their racing factories. Sauber, Caterham, Marussia, Red Bull and Toro Rosso, I'm not sure about. But as the world moves toward an increased use of robotic and CNC machine tools, that market becomes ever more important for Haas to attack and capture - we're talking tens of billions of dollars over time. That's really what Gene Haas is after. And though he might tell Danica that she can wear a see-thru driving suit, put some falsies in her bra and sit in an F1 show car, while the team pulls it by a rope down the pit lane (just to appease and pander to the feminist types and DanicaManiacs), I doubt seriously that he'll ever give her anything more than a demonstration run disguised as a "test". What he's saying in public now is just to be kind and politically correct. She's good for PR and that's about it (IMO). She doesn't even have an FIA superlicense, so it's not like she could race, even if she wanted to. BTW, someone we all know and love is talking to a friend of a friend of a friend to see if there might be a spot on the team for him (sweeping the floor, polishing the wheels or carrying the laptops in when it rains). Long shot for sure... and given how much I love what I'm doing now, it is a TREMENDOUS risk. But this will likely be my last great shot at glory before hanging up my helmet... or briefcase, as it were.

I haven't watched an IRL race in forever. But with Juan being one of my favorite drivers from F3000, CART, F1, NASCAR and Grand Am, I'm delighted that he found a new home in the IRL. And for those who thought he was past his driving prime (at 38), at Pocono this past weekend, Juan racked up his first win of the season and his new career.

This Wed is an unusual race for Nascar Truck series. They are racing at Tony Stewart's Eldora a short unpaved oval. Running short track style (I.E. qualifing heat races, last chance qualfier before Main race.) I'm not a big short track fan, but last year's race was fun to watch.

IMO, the F1 WDC battle is coming down to which side of Mercedes is going to make its preferred guy the champ: Niki Lauda (Lewis Hamilton) or Toto Wolff (Nico Rosberg).

Amazing drive from last place on the grid to 3rd place by Hamilton (and ahead of Rosberg, who started on pole) this past Sunday. I'm not really into conspiracy theories, but it is beginning s seem awfully odd that Lewis' car keeps getting struck by brake and other issues pretty much every race, while any problem that Nico has (save the one catastrophic failure) is relatively minor. And this last race, Toto's man, Paddy Lowe, asks Lewis to let Rosberg through??? Rosberg was never close enough, so he expected Lewis to slow down and let Rosberg pass. There is definitely something fishy going on there.

You're right it was a great drive.. I just don't know why Lewis has to be so damn despondent after every race. Sure, he's had good reason to be lately but even when things go well / better than expected he seems to be negative on the podium and in post-race interviews. Take this weekend for example. Disastrous qualifying... starts from pit lane... disastrous start to the race (spin)... yet finishes 3rd AHEAD of his team mate who started on pole. He should have been elated to have made gains on his teammate in the Championship, no matter how small.

I honestly don't think there's anything untoward going on with Mercedes, just a string of incredible bad luck. As for team orders, the team needs to make their mind up. They must have had meetings galore about the subject over the course of the season yet when it comes to the race they seem to make a mess of it. They said earlier in the season that they would be allowed to race each other, and variables like being on different race strategies shouldn't blur the lines. Rosberg never got anywhere near enough to Hamilton to justify him being let through. And naturally, when you've worked so hard to be in the position you are in the race against the odds, you're not going to move over willingly to your championship rival under any circumstance. Mercedes aren't the only team guilty of this... other team's don't seem to ever learn their lessons and hand out orders to their drivers and then regret it afterwards. Team orders shouldn't be allowed anyway. It was banned a few seasons ago and for some inexplicable reason it was brought back the next year. Drivers tendency these days though is to outright ignore any team orders and you can guarantee that this is what Lewis and Nico will do for the rest of the season even if they do get a message in their ear.

I'm not a big NASCAR fan and I'm not a big Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan either. But still, it made me feel good to read that he swept both Pocono races this year. Just won #2 today (yesterday... whatever damn day it is!). And he's #2 in the Sprint Cup championship - behind the guy that I've been pulling for for 20 years when it came to NASCAR: Jeff Gordon.

Dale's not great, but I see him as a lot better than some people give him credit for. Being the son of a dead legend has got to be big shoes to fill. Good on him today. :hatsoff:

Further proof that as long as you're rich enough, you can commit felonies and get away with it.

Formula One Chief Bernie Ecclestone Settles Bribery Case for $100 Million

LONDON — Bernie Ecclestone, the billionaire head of Formula One motor racing, settled a bribery case against him on Tuesday by agreeing to make a $100 million payment, apparently clearing the way for him to resume full control of the sport.

The judge in the case, Peter Noll, agreed to the deal between the defense and prosecutors, formally ending the criminal case without making a ruling on Mr. Ecclestone’s guilt.
