After seeing Batman: The Dark Knight's trailer....some spoilers

No one can beat Jack Nicholson's performance as The Joker.

Heath Ledger can because Jack Nicholson didn't play the Joker, he played himself in makeup. Heath Ledger said the two main books he read were "The Killing Joke" and "Arkhum Asylum. Both were written by the two most fucked up awesome writers in comics. Alan Moore and Grant Morrison.

This is the psycho Joker that is in the comics.

THAT LAUGH IS ICONIC!

So there I was, sitting down to watch BB, I thought great, a new direction, new everything and it Begins .... wait a second it's ripping off The Shadow (1993)! Later on, wait a second it's ripping off The Crow (1994). Aside from a lousy villain (he pulls on a mask and blows dust in your face) and the worlds youngest lawyer (Katie Holmes), I felt it was just an OK comic book flick, still, nice production values.

I don't think we have IMAX in the UK. I'll watch Dark Knight when it comes out on DVD or HD, gimme about 5 months, lol.

I highly doubt Nolan would rip off those movies. If he ripped off any movie it was Blade Runner. Give him a bit more credit. You make no sense, those movies you mentioned were stylelized affairs whereas Nolan filmed Begins like an English Drama.

actually, having the joker kill bruce's parents would give good reason why the joker was batman's arch enemy. :2 cents:

No. Because it gives absolution to his war on crime. The fact that his parents were killed by a random criminal and were victims of a senseless crime and he never got justice with the killer makes it so much more profound. If Batman got vengeance on his parents killer he would stop being Batman, but the fact that he didn't is what drives him to death to continue 'the mission'.

Plus I don't like it when movies deviate from their original story when it's just as easy to follow it. Sometimes in movies I can see where it's maybe impossible to follow something exactly, but I have never been a fan of changing something just to do it.

Does the Ledger tragedy dampen anyone's anticipation of seeing the film? I still want to see the film...but the clever "guerilla" film marketing (the websites) has kind of worn off me. I'm not much interested in the buildup for the film. I'd still like to see it.

I don't know if Ledger's Joker is going to be killed off in the film (I surely hope they don't re-edit the film to make that happen now)...

It's difficult for me to balance my compassion for this tragedy with my "greedy, fanboy lust" for this film...

I still anticipate this film the same. But I really cannot comment on how I will be viewing the film upon it's release date right now. Especially due to the fact that there is still no word on if Ledger will be taken out of his last film that he was working on before he died. So TDK may very well be Ledger's final film. And if that does indeed prove to be the case, I'm sure I might be watching the flick with mixed feelings. From the trailer, his performance seems to be one that is just as awesome, as it will be memorable. But the idea that it might be Ledger's last seen big screen performance does give it a bit of a bittersweet feeling.

We'll see.

Well supposedly, the Joker survives this movie. However though, I don't feel that the character should be killed off like a lot of other supervillains were in other superhero movies. After all, what is a hero without a villain or villains for a rival? Not only that, although Ledger looks to have made an epic and amazing performance in TDK, there's no reason to kill off the Joker just because the actor died in real life. IMO it makes more sense to have the Joker live because he can be recasted and essentially continue to exist through another actor's interpretation.

This might be and most likely will be Heath's greatest performance yet. It's a shame, because I would have honestly liked to have seen him in the 3rd rebooted Batman movie, but that's unfortunately life. Just my :2 cents:

That's the e-mail I got for submitting my e-mail address to them. I hope it's something interesting.....

Is it just me because I dont dig the whole crackhead look they got with Joker in the new flick. I hope Ledger can put on a performance that makes one look past the appearance. but i should watch Batman Begins, I had no idea there was so much going on in that movie. Ra's was in there??? So based on what Im reading the older movies were not so good but the Christian Bale Batman's are good?

There's alot of fans who will say the previous Batman films are crap. And that Tim Burton ruined Batman and yadda yadda yadda, but I am not one of them. I believe Burton did a amazing job with Batman 1989, and I actually know some fans who prefer Batman Returns! Schumacher in his own right, is a pretty good director as well. However, WB's direction and his love for neon and Bat-Nipples ruined any chances for longterm success with his Bat-Flicks.
But yeah, you will hear from some who say the Keaton/Burton Batman films are shit, and I have little doubt the same damn thing will happen 15-20 years from now when WB decides to reboot the Batman film franchise once again following Nolan and Bale's series of films. It's an unfortunate cycle, but that's the way it goes.

With Batman Begins, I highly recommend you check it out before seeing The Dark Knight. I dont really believe it's required, but it certainly would help give you some idea of how Nolan's vision of Batman differs from Burton's and what not. Ra's is of course the main villain in Begins, and Cillian Murphy does an excellent job in bringing The Scarecrow to life (who also appears in The Dark Knight as well in what is called a glorified cameo). For my money, Begins also has probably the BEST ending to a superhero movie as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_oSn0ZKHJQ - "Where is Harvey Dent?"

That scene is just fucking awesome. The Joker crashes Harvey's party and starts threatening the guests...and the last guest he threatens before the video ends is real life U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, one of the biggest Batman fans in the world

It's a funny yet intimidating scene, and Heath just nails this role

Man, I can't fucking wait.

It's playing at the IMAX, would be amazing to see it on such a huge screen!

Yeah I know, it's finally July. The one movie I wanted to see all year is finally almost here. So far all of the buzz from early advanced screenings have been very good (not that I listen to critics anyway because they always suck).:glugglug:

The comparison to Heath Ledgers Joker vs. Jack Nicholson's will always be debated as to who gives the better performance. I have always admired visually in certain scenes in the Batman '89 movie that some images of Jack look like the "Man who Laughs" graphic novel I have.

Looks like Heaths performance will finally give the "edge " that a real maniac like the Joker should have if ever he existed. I am definitely looking foward to his final performance on film.

Long live The Batman.:batman:
