300

Who is excited for this movie? it looks so awesome! It is it already in the top 250 on Imdb.com and it is getting great reviews (rottentomatoes.com) is anyone else excited for this movie like me?
Over the past 3 years in March graphic novel's made into movies have come out and all have been great: Sin City, V for Vendetta and 300. I wonder what graphic novel movie will come out next march?

Anyway, 300 comes out on Friday and it is gonna be a great movie. Everyone should go and see it!

It looks awe-inspiring. Love the ancient warfare movies. Ancient warfare, a time where you could actually look your enemy in the eye.

pitino

are you talking to me?
show some trailers and looks great! i'll watch it for sure!

 for Ancient Greeks!

I never read any critic reviews for movies.

I learnt long ago that I often don't agree with them on a lot of films. So just read them anymore. I just watch a trailer and see if I might be interested in it. Then I see it and judge it on my own opinions no one else's.

This is what everyone should do.

As critics opinions are just that, hers/his opinion not yours and often can wave the more weak minded people.

As for this I'll reserve judgement till I've seen it. Like I do all films. I've seen many a great trailer that the film turn out to be terrible after.

This movie has the kind of SFX that Sin City had, obviously much different in content but much more dramatic than the usual epic film .
The story has been retold and studied for centuries, and is still pretty good. I look forward to seeing the 21st century treatment of an ancient conflict.

Sparta had the biggest balls of all the Greek city-states, and they are still talked about for that one reason today.

(What a coincidence...this is my 300th post!):)

I am curious...the Battle of Thermopylae may have had a graphic novel made about it, but it's an ancient and well known story of the definitive battle between Persian King Xerxes and the Greeks, mostly Spartans, at the gateway pass of Thermopylae.
(And it wasn't exactly at Thermopylae, just near enough to get the credit for location)
Neither Sin City or V for Vendetta are ancient "history", except in maybe an allegorical sense.

i'm definately looking forward to this movie, loved sin city, so to me 300 should be pretty good too

And it was a turning point for the Greek states in the war against the Persians at the time - even though the actual battle has a bad outcome for one side...((keeping my mouth shut about what happens unless you happen to read the true story! LOL))

I am really looking forward to this movie, have been for a while :)

I'm sick of all this movie hype lately. I really don't see how this can be compared to Sin City because it's not the same people making it. yeah, it's frank miller writing it.. but who here has really read anything by frank miller? not most of the people that saw and liked Sin City, so they really don't know how he is as a writer. Even I haven't read 300, although I am familiar with it. It just seems to me to be the case where people are jumping onto the bandwagon of these movies that are thought to be like artistic, when they really aren't the kind of people that would ever go and see a movie like this if it was playing in a ral art house cinema and not a top box office smash. Maybe it's just good marketting. I don't know.

It just reminds me how everyone was soo exciting about Clerks 2, when I never heard anyone ever buzzing about any of kevin smiths other movies.

The amateur historian in me definitely wants to see the movie :)

cheers,

Whew...
Hey, Grumpy! Snow White and the other 6 dwarves are getting a little annoyed with you; they feel you are avoiding your duties at the rockworks taking all those polls on "who saw Sin City and also read other Frank Miller works?",
"would you go see a multimillion Dollar movie if it was playing only in a real small Art House Cinema?", and "Did you talk about any other Kevin Smith flicks while being excited about Clerks 2?".

Like you, I am familiar with the story of 300, while not having actually read it (I am assuming the 300 Spartans has been made into an Illustrated Novel called 300), but if there is a review on rottentomatoes.com, and trailers on the 'site, the flick isn't exactly a complete secret; most people are looking forward to seeing it, no one here has actually said it's a great movie (yet).

Unlike you, I make as few unsupported declarations of fact as possible...maybe the writing sucks and Frank Miller can't really carry a story through from print to film, and maybe the director didn't do a good job translating print to special fx scenes...won't be long 'till we all know.
So far, no one seems to have noticed the lack of quality, and there just may be a good reason for that...it could be a really cool movie.

Definitely pumped up to see this one, looks visually stunning.
