So....it seems likely that Alabama and LSU will be #1+2 at the end of the season. Do they play each other for the National Championship? If Alabama wins, do they share it, as LSU already beat them once?

A rematch causes all kinds of problems, I think. If LSU remains unbeaten, I don't think Alabama should be the team playing them in the N.C. game. LSU already proved they are better by beating them in the regular season.

Thoughts?

That's a good point, but similar to '96, when FSU beat Florida in their season finale, it was clear that both were the two best teams in the country and they had a rematch, which Florida won and there was really no talk of sharing the championship even though they split, it was just tough luck for FSU. If the National Championship is meant for the two best teams in the country Bama shouldn't be penalized simply because they happen to be in the same conference as the best team, LSU and Alabama are indeed clearly the two best teams in the country.

71 season finished with Nebraska #1, Oklahoma #2, Colorado #3 ... don't know if it happened regular season since though. :2 cents:

Only happened once before, in the season you mentioned.

The only other time in the 75-year history of The Associated Press rankings that the top three teams all came from the same conference was the final regular-season poll of 1971, when Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado from the Big Eight were 1-2-3.

I agree in many ways, but it still bugs me. But I'm a wanker, so what do I know?

:goodpost:

Truth

If LSU somehow loses, they should appeal to make it the best 2-out-of-3. Again, I think it's great. BCS mayhem is what I want.

Wow, Oregon only 9th? It's quite obvious the voters put waaay too much weight into record. Houston 7th, seriously? Boise State worked their ass off for years, playing big time opponents, just to gain the right to be ranked that high. Now here comes Houston, with their terrible ass schedule and boasting big :)1orglaugh) wins over UCLA and SMU, and is ranked that high. They can thank Boise State for that. I mean how is Stanford 4th and Oregon 9th? Okay, Oregon has 2 losses versus 1, but that's because while Stanford was playing San Jose State, Oregon had the balls to play LSU. Who won by 23 in Palo Alto just one week ago, again? I swear there is no incentive for scheduling good teams non-conference.

BCT

Pucker Up Butter Cup.
Its all about their name Yumi! They dont drop the big time programs very much,, they have to lose in droves for them to knock them way down!

The problem is, if you overlook Alabama solely on the fact that they lost to LSU already, then you could have a shitty team with 2 losses play LSU, or God forbid, Houston. As I've said before, I am NOT an Alabama fan, but you can't penalize them for being better than a team just because that team hasn't played LSU.

in case you don't know....earlier in the season, Louisiana Tech was killing Houston by 3 scores into the fourth quarter.
Season records mean diddly shit when it comes to quality of team you have.

LSU and Alabama are GREAT football teams......then there is everyone else

What's with all the Houston hating here? They can't help it they play in CUSA....they have to play whoever is on their schedule. I guess if they had lost a couple of games no one would be ragging on them. They go undefeated (so far) and all anyone talks about is how overrated they are, they haven't played anybody, were losing to La Tech, blah blah blah. Say what you want but they've done everything they can possibly do the elevate their BCS status this year. It's a great story....a program that was in a shambles just a few years ago. Besides, it's college football....where you can expect the unexpected. Anything can happen in one game (remember Utah-Alabama?).

Now I'm not saying they are the best team in the nation by any means but shouldn't we all have an opportunity to find out on the field of play instead of having armchair experts on a porn forum unilaterally declare that they are hereby deemed to be unworthy simply because they say so? :dunno:

PS- No picks this week as I am leaving town for the holiday. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Think about all the schools jumping to other conferences... So, obviously, they can help it that they play in CUSA.

As for Utah-Alabama, I talked with a sports writer before that game and he picked Utah. He spent a lot of time around Tuscaloosa/Alabama and he told me that the Bama players really had no interest in that game as they would not be playing in the NC game, so most of the players had this attitude of "The sooner this game is over with, the sooner we can go home.". At the time, I thought he'd lost his mind, but we all know how that turned out.

if houston and boise st wants to play football with the big boys ..they should play at least 5 tough games a year...if houston or boise was in the sec...they would have at least 3-4 losses..they cant win me running the score up on a bunch of no ranked teams in the end..they wind up just like boise does eVery year...college football needs to be divided in 2 differnt divisions big boys in one division...boise houston and the rest of the little league teams in another at this moment if they both had to play vandy ole miss and tenn...if they won 2 out of the 3 i would be shocked

i was in the same boat with them..beating teams like texas, penn st, florida, bama didnt even have room for a ..we beat utah in the who gives a shit bowl....tshirt..my closet was full...we wanted a 13 NC shirt..now we want a 14...i bet utah has tshirts for that game..if anyone wants one

Houston can play with the big boys, Boise can hold their own against bigger name opponents. The thing with playing teams like this for other teams in bigger confrences is that its cowardess on their part, thats the reason they dont play more of those opponents. Boise and Houston have both shown they wont duck the other big name schools....Its teams from the other conferences who dont want to play them cause theres no benefit and only potential ridicule to be gained from those games. Beat those schools and the reaction will be 'why didnt you beat them by 50' lose to them and they hear 'How did you lose to lowly Boise St.' Theres nothing good to be gained by playing these teams and thats why bigger name opponents duck them in favor of weak sisters they KNOW they can beat by 50. Thats no fault of the Boise's and HOustons of the world that no one wants to play unless they go to their place for a 1 game deal every 2 or 3 years. Make what you want of those 'other' conferences outside the big 6, but C-USA is a good conference, the Mountain West has good competition. Just because the rainkings arent there for them it doesnt mean theyre cakewalks for Houston and Boise.

Really? They could have moved to a BCS conference this season?? Who might that be?? Last time I looked, you had to be invited to join so....??? :dunno:

Assuming that's all true, it's also irrelevant. Bottom line is....they lost.

One last zinger before I leave for the holiday. Don't be surprised if Tulsa beats Houston on Saturday. They are actually tied for first in the western division with the Coogs and the winner moves on to play in the conference championship.

OK....Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

I think the point here is this: any good team from any conference can beat anyone on any given day ONCE. But the teams from tough conferences have to win week in, week out against talented teams, and most football folks reward that (see the polls). It's not that Houston isn't good or that they couldn't beat a top 10 team from a BCS conference on a neutral field in a bowl game... the point is that they don't deserve it because they don't play anyone, and if they did play in say the SEC, they would NOT be undefeated.

I'm biased of course, but a lot of people agree that LSU and Bama are the two best teams in the nation this year. Rematch or not, if they both win out, that would actually mean to most people that the BCS worked. I'm not a huge fan of the BCS, and think they should at LEAST go to a Plus 1 format. But again, most of the time, it does produce a 1v2 matchup that's at least arguably the two best teams.

No, the incentive remains. It's about making money and toughening up for later games. The problem is the rankings. They can't factor in all the wins/losses. So, the solution is to do away with rankings and polls. They're actually not needed anymore. Every game is on television and analyzed to death afterword. All we need is an NCAAFB Committee made up up coaches and media voters to watch every game and make up all the end of season bowl games.

Chip Kelly, for all the good he's done, and he's done some great things at Oregon, completely mangled the last 60 seconds of this game. The Trojan D was clearly on its heels, so why do you depart from your usual aggressive style and leave your fate in the hands of a 60% place kicker, while leaving two timeouts in your pocket????
very very disappointing :(

That being said, no team in the nation has improved more from week 1 to week 11 than USC, so congrats to them.
They should absolutely destroy UCLA. Fortunately for Neuheisel he may have saved his job today by becoming bowl eligible.
Fashion tip for Lane Kiffin: lose the totally gay snow cap :1orglaugh

HAHAHA!!! Damn. The week I lay low with the smak talk, the Trojans shock the world and pull off the upset. :thefinger :1orglaugh;)

It was a hell of a game, and Lane Kiffin definitely needs to shitcan the allwhite look!!
