WAAAAWHOOOOOO!

The U.S. kept banging away at it and finally got a result that fits the quality of play they showed throughout. It should've been 2-0, could've been 5-1 :o

What is with the U.S. playing wobbly the first 10 minutes of every game!!! Can we just start the matches with 10 minutes elapsed ;)

Landycakes was Johnny on the Spot and buried it. He scores big goals when it matters. I'll give him credit. I thought Dempsey played great, Altidore finally showed something. Even the unknowns--Buddle and Gomez--showed something on the field. Was Gooch given the game off to rest? We will need his muscle against the Germans if we meet them.

Such a great day for the U.S.A.!!!!!!!!

I just hope we don't get the 'Krauts. Remember guys, they played arguably the most dominant match of the tournament already with their 4-0 win. A tough, tough team they will be.

USA needs to grab a bite to eat, regroup from the terrible officiating and hopefully they can take it day by day now.

I'd like all the haters of the sport tell me that shit right there isn't exciting. And I'd like to take a special moment to tell mrtrebus to SUCK IT. :thefinger

It's excitement. But it's artificial excitement. In most other sports they would have had the game put away and it would be thought of as a casual experience as much better as they played. Having one thing disproportionally means so much would be like somebody arbitrarily making a free throw at the end of a basketball game worth 50 points to ensure just that basket matters, even though the rest of the game had a lot more to it.

The fact they could totally outplay somebody and barely pull out a win justifies what people like me think about the game.

England going the long way around, a possibility of having to go through Germany, Argentina, Spain/Portugal and then Brazil, before lifting the cup.
C'mon bring it we'll take you all on!

Well done USA so proud.

Players aren't robots D-Rock. The game still has to be played. Soccer has a life/death aspect that most sports don't mostly because most American sports micromanage the end with too many times out...unlimited substitutions, etc.

Sad that Algeria didn't make it but at least, with the US, something always happens :

Game 1 : Quite a surprise that they did a draw with England
Game 2 : 0-2 for Slovenija at the half-time, 2-2 at the end of the game.
Game 3 : Won and qualify at the very end of the game.

This was a surprise, but USA deserved to top their group, maybe they have a shot for The Cup, or maybe not, anything can happen.

The good news is that the scenario in which Germany qualifies but isn't at the top of their group relies on
1) Germany and Serbia winning with Serbia making up a 3 GD difference against Australia.
2) Germany getting a draw and Serbia getting a draw or loss (which puts Ghana at the top of the group and probably makes England VERY happy).

I think #1 is pretty damn unlikely to happen. #2 could feasibly occur, but it requires two events with far less than a 50/50 chance to happen.

Ideally, I suppose, Ghana can pull off an upset draw and Serbia can win -- giving us Ghana and England Serbia.

You mean like sudden-death overtime in the NFL? Talk about anticlimactic. I don't need to see the Vikings defeat N'owlins in the playoffs only to get butt rammed in OT (because of officiating, which is not a ton different than the power they held today in our match) to lose. It's totally dissapointing and only alienates a fence-sitting fan like me for the NFL, which is already trashy enough with all the Bud Light commercials I have to sit through just to see a gay ass field goal. :2 cents:

Gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. :thefinger

Good post! You saw the sign B/S Scott...now say it with me, "YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!":1orglaugh

Well, although it is the most infamous Obama phrase ever, Billy Clint was in the house. :hatsoff:

I wasn't able to watch the match, did I hear right that there was another disallowed US goal that was another bogus call?

Absolutely. Like the last official, hopefully they shit can this one for the rest of the tourney as well. :thefinger

Really? :wtf: Guess they really didn't want the US to advance...

So, if the BP oil spill is Obama's fault, does he get some credit for the US team making it this far in the World Cup?
