Yeah, because we all know how important academics are to the athletic programs of nearly all the major universities in the country.
Well, major conferences do seek to have schools on par with their academics, admissions, enrollment, etc. standards.

Well, major conferences do seek to have schools on par with their academics, admissions, enrollment, etc. standards.
That has more to do with the face they try to put on for the public, which even then doesn't fool anybody. There are very few major universities out there that actually care about the academics the men's football and basketball athletes undergo. They might pretend that other stuff matters, but it's not reality, and if they faced that, they would stop pretending those things are important to them. Since they treat it just like a business there really isn't any logical reason for them to care about those factors needing to be in another place. The only reason they might would be in a strategic sense where it would allow them to manipulate the system and keep funneling the money and prestige to themselves.
How 'bout the politics of sports?
To think it's totally about academics and admissions is naive but to think it's totally about sports is equally naive IMO.
It's about business and the business of some of these universities is academics and athletics...so they try and balance their decisions accordingly.

Yes, but it's never about both of them together, not for any place with a serious powerhouse athletic program. For all practical purposes the normal university functions and their athletic departments for men's football and basketball might as well be two different entities that are artificially and often superficially tied to each other so they can retain a tax exempt status while being practically a business, and retain their cartel so they can control talent, get prestige and glory, and make a lot of money. Football and basketball are virtually side business. There is no justifiable reason to pretend that the athletics need to be or are intimately intertwined with anything else that goes on at the schools. About the only things that are join them are the same people at the top who control everything and the need to have "students" play in a false sense of amateurism.

Quick side note in all this confusion....looks like Greg Davis is out as OC at Texas. My hope is that Major Applewhite will get the job but it is by no means a certainty.

Nice win for Fresno State over Illinois, without their best offensive player, tailback Robbie Rouse. To be 8-4 after a tough non conference schedule, an improved WAC with 3 ranked teams, an inconsistent defense, and after losing Ryan Matthews, I'll take that shit.
Illinois got screwed royally on that 4th down spot. There was at least one full car length between where the runner was tackled and the first down.
Wasn't determinative but it was clearly a bad spot. Did I mention the personal foul call on 3rd and long on that drive? Wow..certainly the SIllynoise player shouldn't have taking the chance (I guess) but is this still football or 2 hand touch? Guy essentially got penalized for hitting the receiver too hard.:dunno:
Well, it looks like Taylor Martinez isn't going to be 100% in the Big XII title game. Major advantage for my Sooners, mainly because OU is horrible against option running attacks.
Burkhead is expected to run some wildcat, but without a legit throwing threat, the OU defense will have a big day. And you know OU will score points.
Hopefully, Landry Jones doesn't throw 5 INTs like he did last year, and basically gives the game away. It seems every time we play a big game this year, OU makes mistake after mistake giving the opposing team more opportunities to score. If we could limit our turnovers to at least one, this could be a big win for OU.

Well I wouldn't count out Zac Lee as a replacement if they need to start winging it. Plus, they can just start banging it with Helu as well. Still, I'd agree. OU should win but I won't be shocked if the Huskers end up taking it. Both teams can be had. Can't wait to watch.
