Until there is a better system there is no National Champion

Had Pitt beaten WVU I might be tempted to go with them to take out the Bearcats but I think Cincinnati will close out their schedule with a win in a close one.

Oregon over Oregon St.

USC over Arizona

Florida-Alabama will be a defensive bloodletting. It will be a close game. I think Florida will win (who would you rather have as your QB for a winning scoring drive....Tim Tebow or Greg McElroy?) but I will give Alabama a puncher's chance IF somehow Igram can run against the Gator defense. If he can't, 'bama can't win. If I'm Urban Meyer, my whole defensive game plan is geared around making McElroy beat me through the air. That's why Florida should prevail.

Texas-Nebraska will be a tough game as well but I see the 'horns walking away with it. After they took their foot off the gas pedal against A & M, I'm sure that Mack Brown will have his team focused on the task at hand. If somehow Nebraska pulls the upset....is it TCU or Cincinnati that gets the BCS nod for the national championship? I say the Bearcats should get it (if they can beat Pitt of course) since they are in a BCS conference. How can the BCS pick an at-large team if one of their conference champions is undefeated?

Lastly....in the C-USA title game, Houston over East Carolina.[/QUOTE florida is out of gas,and will be exsposed saturday for the over rated team they been all year, if not for the dirty stripe guys flagging floridas winning touchdown all the way down the field, arkansa beat they ass....what in the hell is standing in the way of bama ?? they beat the blinkers off arkansas bama 34 florida 17 by the way, ill be serving crow here saturday about 630 for all you guys that have been blinded by the light and the timmaahhhhh fans...........timmah!

Amazing how everyone is side-stepping the Notre Dame job, even though all the "experts" are talking about how it is a more appealing job now.

There is basically an elite group of programs---USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Miami, Florida State, Penn State, Nebraska, Ohio State, (gulp) Bama, Florida, LSU, Michigan

There is no point in Notre Dame looking at ^^^^ group of programs for the next coach. Notre Dame is merely a lateral step. Unless Notre Dame wants to offer Urban Meyer $15 mil per year for life there is no way he leaves Florida for Notre Dame. Same with Big Game Bobby.

The next group = Colorado, A&M, Washington, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Iowa, ucla, Clemson, Boston College...these are name brand schools, who usually win, but not consistently, or they're former A list schools that have fallen down the pecking order. Notre Dame could look in this area for a coach.

The Irish have no margin for error with this hire. They MUST get it right. NBC is only signed on through 2013, right?, so if the Irish are still batting .500, NBC will probably look elsewhere.

Pete Carroll was a laughingstock hire for USC until Mike Williams became BIG MIKE WILLIAMS and the dynasty was formed. I wouldn't worry about Notre Dame rushing out to make a quick hire. FIND THE RIGHT GUY.

Why not wait until after the bowl games? Sacrifice one year of recruiting in order to get the right guy. Why go for Brian Kelly if Cincy gets waxed in the Orange Bowl? If Notre Dame hires their coach say on Jan 8th, there's basically a month to secure a decent recruiting class anyway....

^^that is the smartest analysis of the situation I've heard yet. You work in the biz?

I agree. No hurry. And the fact that they've hired a team to look makes me think they're going to take their time.

But, TitsR., you have to agree. If they get the hire right - someone who can recruit AND coach - the program does have a chance at being consistently top ten (though not national contenders), getting bowl games and [mostly] pleasing the fans.

I think regardless of the next hire, NBC will resign. They're making killer revenue off their deal with Notre Dame, even in lean years.

Notre Dame just draws attention, regardless of how much shit they suck.

There is no reason why Notre Dame can not be a Top 10 program every year. Even with Stanford-like recruiting standards. That doesn't mean an NC every year. There's simply too many good players around. Notre Dame may have to be selective and have a slimmer margin for error than say Texas, Florida, USC..schools that can offer anyone they want. In contemporary college football--a 2 loss season + a bowl win usually means Top 10-12 final ranking :dunno:

The NFL is starting to become "fond" of the Spread offense. That bodes well for Notre Dame, if they hire Brian Kelly or a spread coach, and NOT well for my Trojans. It appears "pro-style offense"--the USC selling point--might become archaic like the triple-option

^^you should freaking write a column. What you say not only makes sense, but is correct.

Not to patronize you, but to point out that you make good points. Plus your avatar is hot.

For your sake and sanity--don't have any $$$ riding on your quacks. A win is a win is a win...just enjoy the game!

Yes. Sound advice, thanks. I have no desire to revisit last year's Holiday Bowl, which was like having a root canal and a colonoscopy simultaneously

Man. I hate Florida, and now I hate Alabama because of this smoknn guy. Who to root for?
Yup. Me too. It's anyone but Bama for me this year...

A little sloppy. Oregon keeps turning it over. Oregon St keep committing penalties. Other than that... great game.

I've been impressed with the Beavs. Wow. They're passing game really does live up to the stats...:o

C'mon quacks! ((save my Holiday Bowl bid!!:1orglaugh))

Congrats on the Rose Bowl Oregon....wow.

The Quack offense is impossible to solve. I literally have no idea if they will pass it or hand it off and WHO gets the ball....
