whatever. i'm not arguing stats that are posted, and i believe i implied overall, not current.

in any case, we're not really arguing here because we both believe the same thing. Notre Dame isn't currently, nor are they likely to become a championship winning team. I'm just saying that with good coaching, if Cincy and TCU can be top ten, why not Notre Dame?

Notre Dame used to be an NFL factory. Nobody's arguing that. But since 1998...the draft numbers for the irish don't look good.

Notre Dame seems to pride itself on being "the Stanford" of the Midwest--meaning a solid overall athletic program. It's not enough to just dominate in one sport. All teams are expected to be competitive, even if football pays the bills.

Paul Hornung pretty much laid out the case why ND has fallen behind and will continue to fall behind. They don't recruit elite athletes consistently because of admission standards. Notre Dame loosened standards once and the result was the Kim Dunbar fiasco.

Charlie Weis is clearly an incompetent coach and talent evaluator and talent groomer. Maybe the right coach will get the irish winning. Then again, Stanford really doesn't come close to the ROse Bowl ever, do they? :dunno:

That whole post was great but that first part Titsrock man you were all over it.They have a soild progarm in all forms and as of late it has been the basketball and soocer team getting the wins.Strange huh but like you said football pays the bills but everyone of the sports programs are expected to win:thumbsup:Wow that is good stuff:thumbsup:

Very surprised to see A&M keep up the Texas Longhorns. IMO, I thought Texas A&M was one of the worst teams in the Big 12. I did hear this Johnson kid was pretty good, but I only seen one game of his coming into this game, and he was awful.

This is a rivalry game, so I guess A&M was just fired up. But still.... 39 points? I guess any good defense can play a stinker. :dunno:

Notre Dame's problem is they can't recruit blue-chip defensive talent. Usually southern schools, USC, Ohio State and Penn State get the top notch defensive talent. I think Notre Dame's academic standards are preventing them from coming.

It's sad, but in a fair world where the NCAA system had any dignity and didn’t worry about money first they would make everybody else come up to Notre Dame's academic standards instead of pretty much forcing them to come down if they ever want to compete in football year after year again. When you have college athletes out there that can barely read at some places it’s a problem.

Of course I'm also one of those people that think centers education should be educating people and shouldn't be in sports where they literally treat it as a business. If I had it my way either a NFL minor league system or another league would fill in where the NCAA is now as the stepping stone for the greatest talent to make it from high school to the pros. That way people that don’t want to be there for any reason other than to play football don’t have to go through some charade or take a place of some other person that wants an education. It wouldn’t make a mockery of our higher education system, and the players would actually get paid for the millions of dollars of revenue they bring in.

The Texas D gives up 39 points to A & M?

What's up with that? Too much turkey and stuffing? :1orglaugh

In an earlier post, I warned that TAM would give the LH's fits. They always do. Johnson is a helluva QB. This was an offense lover's dream. McCoy and Johnson. Makes me wanna break out my old Bradshaw/Staubach SI issues.

I think it's pretty clear now that either Tim Tebow should win his second Heisman Trophy or Colt McCoy will win his first!

In theory, this is a great idea. I think Colleges and Universities SHOULD be about academics first and offering people education and training.

In practice, what would setting up national, regulated minor league systems for football and basketball do to minority enrollments at colleges? Especially private colleges....
