2008 - 2009 World Football Thread (EPL, Serie A, Bundesliga etc)

It appears the active thread for this year's World Football League Season is no longer available.

LET'S START ANOTHER ONE!

Today, Arsenal lost to Juventus in the "Emirates Cup" which seems like a very cool preseason tourney, even if not all the top stars play. The matchups have been very D E L I C I O U S this year and last year. The Gunners sat a bunch of stars (as Juve did I'm sure) so this result is not much to get freaked out over.

It appears like Arsene Wenger is happy with the team and the development of Nasri, Carlos Vela, Bendtner etc...perhaps another signing is not in the cards at this time:dunno:

The big news might be Shevchenko's pending dismissal from Chelski. I guess the new Chelski coach doesn't like him. He had been a massive flop for Chelski and I'd say Comrade Abramovich might be willing to give his buddy a sendoff somewhere else....

Does anyone go on this site Football Shirt Blog

I like checking out the new shirts every year. This has been a great year for some teams--Valencia, Fehbernace, Aston Villa--and an awful year for other teams' kits--Arsenal BOO!, Chelski 3rd (yellow:throwup:), Milan...

The season is almost upon us....ahhhh....

Who is the best EPL announcer, who is the worst?
I think Jon Champion is the best. As for game analysts..I think Robbie Earle is pretty good. There are a couple of other "blokes" I prefer but over here in the U.S., Fox Soccer Channel does a lousy job informing the American viewer who is calling the action...so I don't know their names still...

The MLS announcers on Fox Soccer Channel aren't as good as the MLS announcers on ESPN, imo...

I like Martin Tyler as a commentator. Calls the brilliantly, unpartial.
Dislike Andy Gray as I feel he just comes across as he has his favourites and is very biased when it is his job to be impartial.

I agree with that Andy Grey is very biased, I also disslike all of the BBC commentary team, Motson etc all piss me off. Tyler is a good commentator.

Nikki Benz: Simply the best #1!!
does anyone know if there's a fantasy game for the Premier League, Calcio and Liga A???

I play this fantasy game of the Brazilian League which I put my team in my favorite formation and make my squad for the next round and then I get points for every single player that I put (if they play good they get good points and so on....)

Mark Bosnich has returned to the world of professional Football!

After playing for English Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United, Mark Bosnich is currently under trial at A-League club, Central Coast Mariners where he recently proved he still has the skills and agility of a top-notch goalkeeper even after being out of of top-tier professional football for 6 years. The Mariners cruised to victory in their pre-season cup match against rivals Sydney FC, the score 3 - 0. Bosnich further underscored his return by denying a spot kick penalty.

Pending fitness tests he may become a semi-permanent goalkeeper for the club, particularly whilst Mariners and Olyroo's star goalkeeper Danny Vukovic serves out a 12 month ban.

In other A-League news, The 2008-09 season will see the introduction of both a seven-team Youth League and a eight-team women's league known as the W-League which will run parallel to the A-League season. The season will also include breaks for FIFA match days for the first time.

Hamburg SV sells van der Vaart to Real Madrid
Bundesliga side Hamburg SV will lose its captain Rafael van der Vaart after the Dutch international midfielder confirmed on Monday he had sealed a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

A very good player for real madrid.

Rangers are out of europe. Lithuania's FBK Kaunas eliminate them 2-1 on aggragate. It is great that such negative tactics are not going to work for them this season.

Is somewhere outhere.

It served them right really. There were simply no excuses for last night. It's
going to be a hell of a long season for us now

Hopefully that's the reality check that Murray/Wattie & Co need. Now they
should go and get decent players instead of using dead horses like Miller &
Dailly just to start off with. :scream:

What I don't get is Wattie spent about £7 million on 3 strikers when he already has 5 on the books but only ever plays 1.
Weir is past it as is Dailly.
Wattie has relied on his boys for a year to long and if he doesn't improve I can see yous having a battel for 2nd/3rd spot.

I'm watching Barca absolutely humiliate the New York Red Bulls. This is not even competitive. New York needs to be playing with 12 players to even hang with Barca. Barca is actually trying and they have their full starting lineup out there. The Red Bulls can't even clear the ball. 99% of the action has been about 5 yards outside of the Red Bull box.

This is probably heading to a 10-0 destruction, if Barca really has a killer instinct. I'm not exactly sure how this kind of match helps MLS and helps grow interest in America for MLS.

Granted the Red Bulls are one of the worst teams in MLS and Barca are in the Top5 in the World...but this is shocking.

What's really funny are the ESPN commentators acting like the Red Bulls 'need to do this" or "need to step up" in order to thwart Barca.

I hope to never see this kind of match again. It's humiliating for MLS.

Basically he is doing what he has to do to save face.
Ronaldo knew he wasn't getting sold so claims he want's to stay so that the fans don't get on his back regardless of whether he want's to go or not.

I'm with you on this one.Miller,Velicka and Lafferty signings shoud not have
been, when you have Novo and Boyd up there already.I don't think there's
any chance of us winning the league this season. But it all depends on whether
the other teams will put up a decent fight. To which I hope to god they will :)

thanks man... will do my team soon!!

I am playing that EPL fantasy football for 5 years now. It is a great site, very well done.

Do you know that we can form our own league ?

You can join individually without being part of a league, but also you can create a league with your friends and have your own little league and compete against each other (and of course still compete against everybody else). Ther are almost 2 million people registered every year.

I am in one of these small leagues. We are about 10 persons. It makes it more fun than just be alone among the 2 million others.

Maybe if enough people are interested, we could create the Freeones league for the members of the forum.
