It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the goalie equipment being smaller! It's the terrible new rules that allow for 30 power plays a game, the watered down defense, and the fact that you simply can't defend your own crease anymore. The NHL has been ruined thanks to the crap Bettman has done. If I wanted to sit through 6-0 games every night I'd watch replays of baseball games.

Yeah you're right it was much better to have boring 1-0 games and hooking all the time . I really liked it when a team used to take a 1-0 lead in the first period and then kept it through to the end by using the trapp , hooking and dumping the puck every chance they had , it was a lot of fun to watch . It was great in 2003-04 to NOT have one 50 goal scorer and NOT one 100 point player either . The only crap Bettman has done was when he allowed the game to become boring as it was before the lockout . Right now , maybe it's not perfect but at least the game is back to the basics of hockey wich is to win by scoring goals and not preventing the other team from scoring . I would much rather see a 6-5 game with a lot of incredible goals and great talent displays by top players than to see them get hooked throughout a game .

It was great before the lockout for the real hockey fans. 1-0 and 2-1 games were a hell of alot more exciting to sit through instead of a 6-0 blowout that's over by the 2nd period. Bettman wants it turned into the NBA where the individual like Crosby or Ovechkin is being showcased. Last time I checked hockey was supposed to be a TEAM game not an individual "showcase". Get back to basics?. Hockey always was and is supposed to great goals, good defense, solid checking, and a team game. Those are what the basics are. Sorry, the way it is now sucks. I have no issue with calling the legit penalties but calling the slightest touch or grab in the corner is a bunch of BS. I suppose you just love the endless parades to the penalty box though. "You came within an inch of Sidney The Golden Boy. That's a 5 minute major!" All during the lockout we heard about bringing in new fans. What about the hardcore fans who loved the game the way it was? Whether you believe it or not Bettman screwed the loyal fans by taking the guts out of the game. Although being a Lightning fan I wouldn't expect you to understand much about the NHL beyond the last few years.

I want the physical game back.
I don´t mind games with a dozen goals, but I want to see the checking and the hitting back.
And a couple of heavyweight fights per game.:D
They shoulde get rid of the instigator and let players defend themselves.

Actually the game the way it was played a few years ago wasn't the historical norm. It was at one of its lowest points with the amount of goals scored among other things. Before then hockey used to be higher scoring. They needed to get the goal scoring back up. I don't agree with everything about how they went about doing that. I think the smaller goalie equipment was good, because if you look at the stuff the goalies wore a long time ago it was a lot smaller than it was three or four years ago. I don't like the fact they feel a need to get rid of a lot of the physical contact. This is supposed to be hockey after all.

I don't mind seeing a high scoring game every once in awhile it's just that looking at the box scores every night and seeing 6-5, 7-3, and 9-6 scores makes you wonder where the in your face smash mouth hockey went. To me it looks like Bettman wants an allstar game exhibition every night and that's just boring.

I DO aggree that there are too many penalties but I don't worry about that too much cause the players will learn what NOT to do and the NHL will change some of the absurd penalty calls . But I still think that hockey is heading the right way .

The Canucks played better tonight, they just need to learn to not take so many penalty's, 1 after the other, its so ridiculous. If they hadn't taken so many penalty's they would have had a better chance of winning, because most of Colorado's goals were on power plays. At least Luongo wasn't a block of swiss cheese like on Thursday night

I love the new rules, before the lock out I would only really watch during the playoffs or if the oilers were playing, now I'll watch anyone because the game is faster and the stars are being aloud to do what they do. I will agree that there to many penalties, but it's better than a game of with one goal and then two hours of dump and chase.

That's exactly what I think . At least now talented players can shine

Let's see. Sidney Crosby for example is allowed to slash, hook, hold, and interfere with anybody wearing the opposing uniform yet when an opposing player even makes the slightest bit of contact with him it's a 2 minute minor or 5 minute major penalty. I'll say it again. It's the NBA on ice where it's all about the spotlot hogging individual instead of the team. That's bullshit!

Alot of those talented players get away with a lot of crap now too.

I'd have to disagree. there are some talented players on the Canucks, such as Markus Naslund and the Sedine twins, who are in and out of the penalty box on a consistent basis.

Next chance you get to see a Pens game check out all the stuff the refs let The Golden Boy aka Crosby get away with.

I can just imagine, esspecially if he is playing on home Ice.

I can just imagine, esspecially if he is playing on home Ice.

Last week or so against the Flyers in the last couple minutes of the game he was in the corner with a Flyers D-man Freddy Meyer. It was pretty much a mugging and the ref turned around and gave Meyer the penalty when he didn't even touch Crosby. The kid even has the audacity to run his mouth to Forsberg constantly. Pete was picking up gold medals and cups before Cindy could even stand on skates. The saddest thing about it all is that Crosby will never have to be accountable for anything he does on the ice because of the way the league has been emasculated. I'm not even going to get into the seemingly endless diving he does although he does have a good diving instructor in Recchi.

Huh the problem is I've seen Crosby play a lot and I have never seen him do any of those things .
Also I totally disagree with your claim that his opponents get penalized for the slightest contact on him , have you really watched a Penguins game ?? Crosby gets hit all the time and it's not always clean , still the refs don't always call penalties on those guys that hit him .

Now Bettman is ruining the uniforms of NHL teams after they've been the same for 40 years!. It just keeps gettin better. It's The NBA on ice

NEW YORK -- The NHL will break with tradition next season by ushering in a new, streamlined uniform that blends fashion with functionality, commissioner Gary Bettman said Wednesday.

Bettman said the new-look uniforms, designed over the past two years, will be unveiled at the All-Star Game in January.

In an interview with Reuters at the NHL's headquarters in New York, Bettman said the players who have tested it so far "have been thrilled."

While the new tapered uniforms are fashionable, Bettman said they were designed with players in mind.

"The new uniform takes advantage of developments in new fabrics," he said. "But the change was done not for the stylistic. It was done for performance and safety. It was time. Our basic uniforms haven't changed in 40 years."

NHL teams have worn basically the same outfit, with big, square shirts, bulky pads and wide socks with horizontal stripes since the 1940s.

The new leg pads are designed to stay in place when a player moves and not ride up toward the waist.

Being in the northeast I see the Pens play pretty much nightly against Atlantic division teams. He gets away with everything. He's nothing more than a smug little punk who needs to be knocked down a few notches. He could probably pull a Marty McSorley while the refs and league officials would turn their heads the other way.

All the new Jerseys that the NHL teams are getting are worse than the previous ones. It is like they try so hard to make them better that they end up making them look like shit. Just look at Buffalo and Edmonton, there jerseys from back in the day were a whole lot better looking. I even would prefer the Canucks to go back to there old jerseys. I do like the current one they sport, but it is not nearly as good as there previous jersey.
