Randy Orton's downward spiral
April 12, 2006

Heading into WrestleMania last week, Randy Orton was on top of the world. The Legend Killer had earned a spot in the World Heavyweight Championship Match on the grandest stage of them all – an opportunity most Superstars only dream of. The next several days, however, were far from perfect for Orton.

Not only did the cocky youngster suffer the pinfall at the hands of Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania, but he was also pinned again by Mysterio just days later on SmackDown. To make matters even more humiliating, Randy Orton also learned that he was being suspended due to unprofessional conduct. Many believe that series of events can be categorized as Orton’s worst week of his young career.

Tuesday night at SmackDown, Randy Orton’s career unfortunately continued its downward spiral. Following his King of the Ring match against Kurt Angle, the Wrestling Machine hooked the Legend Killer in the dreaded ankle lock and broke Orton's ankle.

At this time, little else is known about Orton’s injury. Be sure to check back here as more information becomes available.

they have been very open about the Orton situation, letting the fans know that's he's been suspended, so why make a "broken ankle" storyline as an excuse for his absence????
why not just say "he wont be around because he's suspended"

Randy Orton Gone From WWE For Good?

The PWTorch Newsletter reports that Randy Orton’s 60 day suspension, is actually an indefinite suspension. There are reports that he simply may not be brought back.

To keep him away from TNA, they may keep him under contract until his deal is over, while paying him the smallest amount of money possible. Orton would just have to stay at home collecting checks as he wouldn't be able to work anywhere else.

There are some in the company who believe that he would benefit from counseling.

I don't think he has an actual broken ankle, Angle doesn't seem like to make a mistake like that in a match. Its sort of shady how the WWE holds these long-term contracts over their wrestlers like they do, keeping them basically on the side-line with no other options. If they consider his work ethic that bad, release him and see if TNA takes em, they'd be getting the problem. Then again, Orton might not be beyond fixing and they just figure that'll give him some cooldown time till they bring him back in.

yep he needs some sort of help wether it be from a program run from the wwe or him getting help off his own back.

and its well documented that Kurt dont like randy much but kert has amature background i cant see him making such a big mistake.

the broken ankle thing is a "work"
i just find it weird they they're making this angle after they've already let everyone know that he's suspended

Randy Orton's suspension is considered an indefinite suspension at this point.

According to PWInsider.com Jim Ross is back semi-full time with the WWE as the exclusive producer of the Raw announce team. Vince McMahon remains unhappy with the job being done on Monday night's and feels that Ross may able to turn things around. Ross will also be doing some announcing and interviews from time to time. He is set to do a one on one interview with Chavo Guerrero on this coming Monday's Raw.

The PWTorch Newsletter reports that Rob Van Dam vs. John Cena is now very likely to take place at this year’s ECW PPV. WWE may use this to help turn Cena heel, as he is likely to get booed out of the building if he shows up, let alone wrestles a match against RVD.

The feeling for a while was that Triple H vs. RVD at the show was basically a given, however with Triple H now being more open than ever to turning face, that may not be the case.

Don't worry I saw a clip this morning. It's Dalip Singh - Turley from The Longest Yard. Accordimg to his IMDb file, he has an extensive background in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Japanese grappling, martial arts - akido and judo - Greco Roman wrestling, western wrestling and the Indian martial art of kalari.

thats quite the track record. I'm glad to see he's an athlete and not just some big meathead they picked up. Now I'm actually looking forward to seeing him wrestle. but I would like to see someone new on the raw side. they have the spirit squad, which can suck my left nut. a only good reason for me to watch raw now is to see what's going to happen next with Kane.

yeh The Great Khali is an absolute giant, over 7" tall and 400 pounds. It seems a bit obvious what will happen with him and his storyline after him claiming his stake as the new phenomenon He and undertaker will go toe to toe next week i would imagine. But its good to see some new wrestlers with some hype about them

Despite some people being against booking “God” at Backlash, nobody is stepping up to Vince McMahon to tell him how they feel. Speaking out against Vince’s ideas is considered pretty much career suicide.

A lot of people backstage were pleased to hear all the boring chants that Vince got at RAW during his long promo, as they silently felt the same way. Vince didn’t acknowledge the chants once he got backstage and acted like it didn‘t happen.

yeah it was boring. what really pissed me off is that RVD has to defend his money in the bank win. RVD has been in the business for a while, I think he deserves a title shot. If he loses it Vince can kiss my white ass lol

RVD will not lose, i think he'll choose to have his title shot at this years ECW: One Night Stand.
remember a couple of week ago on Raw when he said he wanted the timing of his title shot to be "extreme"

WWE.com have changed the preview for this Monday's episode of Raw. The original preview read...

"Just one week before Backlash, Mr. McMahon has offered his only begotten son Shane as a sacrifice in a Handicap Match this Monday night on RAW when he takes on HBK and his tag team partner - God."

The updated preview reads this...

"While flying over the Atlantic Ocean Thursday afternoon, Mr. McMahon had an epiphany. The Chairman will no longer be sacrificing his son Shane in a Handicap Match against HBK and "God" this Monday night. Instead, his son Shane will be facing HBK in one-on-one action on RAW."

When news broke out that Shane McMahon would be sacrificed on Raw, it did cause quite a bit of controversy.

Update On The Randy Orton Incident, & More

The incident involving Randy Orton is said to have been an offensive violation of WWE policy, in a way that made it seem like he was doing it to try and prove that he couldn’t get in trouble because he’s a main-eventer. It’s said that Orton had been doing things backstage that lower-card workers would’ve been suspended for immediately.

The feeling among most people backstage is that he is a great worker in the ring, but out of the ring they want nothing to do with him.

The move to suspend him has been very well received backstage, and so far the feeling is that it had to be done.
