Would you fight for your country? Is it worth defending?

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
Did a quick search and found nothing. Hence the plethora of "would you X" threads I just necroposted in.

Anyways, lets say that your country is attacked by a country of approximately equal power.
Do you consider your country worth defending? Would you go to war and risk it all for your country?

As strange as I feel about this, I would.

When I got the draft letter, I swore to my grandmother I would not go, but then I was sorted out, being an epileptic.

Today, some 25 years later, I have a different view.

I identify with my country, though it has many flaws.

Many countries have flaws there is nothing I think to feel strange about I would fight anytime for this country I have had a father, bother and two sister serve in the military and also a bother-in-law two in fact my friend that is just pride for your country I mean if you look at any country's history there we be something in there that people are not proud of.the abilty to overcome I think makes a country great and that is something to me to be proud of and is worth fighting for.

I would, not because I feel my country is worth defending, but because I really have nothing else better to do.

YES
But I wouldn't make a good fighter, I wouldn't be efficient. I wold probably be much more useful to my country doing other war-related tasks.

I forgot to mention - you should state which country you'd fight for when you answer this, if it isn't visible in your location.

I'm English (kind of) and I would not fight to defend England (unless it was from china), I'd emigrate.

I suppose it's better than a long, slow and painful death of cancer at 68.

There's absolutely no question I would be killed if I ever were to enlist or get drafted. The ineptitude on display would embarrass the British military (far more than it already has been embarrassed in recent memory) for generations.

Absolutely, but the nature of modern geo-politics is that half the time you're not fighting to actually defend your country but for all kinds of powerful ancillary interests. Pat Tillman is a perfect example— he signed up to go after Al-Qaeda, was outspoken against the Iraq invasion, and died by friendly fire.

But if Cuba for instance invaded the US, I like most of my fellow citizens would take up arms and go to war.

I would, but I would view it as fighting for the great people in my nation. Not fighting for the idiotic govvernment or the hypocritical history.

Someone stole some lettuce and plants from my garden.
They were just about done and someone ripped them
out entirely.

I will fight for that, I totally put effort into growing them.

It's in the same category as, "you shot my cow/goat"

That's totally fucked up.

Yup, the resource is now non-renewable,
pilfering a piece is one thing.

Taking the whole garden however...is horrible
I bet they didn't even eat them.
A traditional reason why we like to own guns.
Miss Roosevelt would also be pissed.
