I liked Connery for years, but think Daniel Craig is the best now. Love the hard drinking, more serious Bond he portrays.
That said, Dalton was also very good...

Uh-oh. Looks like I'm going to have to stand alone and say George Lazenby is closest to the books. Fleming's Bond is a bore compared to Connery, and Lazenby's wooden performance really matches it. I also liked On Her Majesty's Secret Service: the skiing getaway, the flirting girls, the mountain battle, and the tragic ending.

But my personal favorite was Dalton--I really dig the cruelty of his Bond.

None of those guys are the best James Bond, they're all terrible. The best James Bond was James Bond Jr.

They're both actors!!! I'll give you Nelson but surely everyone has heard of David Niven?!?

Barry Nelson played 'Jimmy' Bond as a bloomin' yank! In a one off tv version of Casino Royale. The only good thing about it was Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre.
David Niven played retired Sir James Bond in the messy but fun version of Casino Royale in the late 60s, with Woody Allen as his nephew!

Barry Nelson was the first person to play Bond. He's an American and it was a made-for-tv adaption of Casino Royale.

David Niven is a distinguished English actor who played Bond in the first film version of Casino Royale. It was done as a spoof of Bond films and isn't considered part of the Bond canon.
