agreed. i would say that Izzard and Dave Chappelle are my favorites. brian regan is also pretty good IMO. he's had a stand up special on comedy central, but i don't know if he's done any other videos/tv.

Talk about an UNDER-KNOWN show that launched a LOT of GOOD commedians! The Canadian show, IIRC, came here to the states via PBS before the networks picked it up.

For those that don't know what the heck I'm talking about, "CCCP 1" is the name of an episode from the show's Volume 2 now on DVD. With several repeat clips from the year prior, it's a good, first episode to watch. I'll let you Google the rest.

His movies were mostly hit or miss but he is in the comedy hall of fame for his work on SCTV alone.

Active comedians it has to be Chappelle.

Don Rickles. He died a couple of years back but I've seen much younger people (in their 20's while he was in his 70') laughing their asses off at this old man. Cutting edge? If you've never heard of him, take 15 minutes to Youtube him and see what I am saying.
