the rep system is fine. just more realistic numbers would be much nicer. it just kinda blends in when youre up there (which happens very fast). why not by ones, or fives at the most?

or at least have comma's in the numbers.

That certainly helps. I remember the first time people started breaking the multimillions. :counted it: Whoa. Somebody's been busy.

After a while everybody just had a long string of numbers and it didnt mean too much. Well, I mean.. it means something in that you know how much extra time people have on their hands. Like walking past a bunch of level 70's in World of Warcraft. People love doing nothing. Over and over and over.. ;)

However, at least in WoW.. you gotta pay a montly scrip for it! Insanity! :)

I dont feel as I "do nothing" when I spend time on the board because when I add links to threads, those threads are usually something that I really like or want to see again, that way by adding links I make a mark so I can revisit it (automatically subscribing) while being a contributor to the thread overall and not just saying "Great links!" or "wow thats hot"

Why not just get rid of it altogether :dunno:

After all members are just going to go around doing the exact same as before and soon the same daft numbers will be here again

I 'aint' much talking about legitimate rep, friend. I'm talking about the rep farmers in *Post Games*. The guys that have 10.. errr, HAD 10 million and not because they're posting great lectures on social status, or entire sets of Melissa-Ashley. But just because they spammed 'I'd rep the guy above me because...?' (Indeed! Let us justify spreading rep around! :p )

I'm on the same boat with Pogster on this one. It's just bad. If rep was something people could barely control.. like I've seen boards for Final Fantasy games where your post count, and ratio of posts-per-day add up to experience points, leveling and even stats for RPG minigames! Fun as hell, but that isnt exactly FO's style. :) :) Plus the only way you could get Experience/Reputation from other people was if you beat them in combat.

To quote the Mods:

Rep is a game

so why not keep it, its doesnt really hurt anyone and like I said above it just gives more interaction between the members and is a reward for contributing to the board.

and I agree with you Torre, I dont like that part of the rep system, maybe things will be different this time around and it can be given more responsibly.

I'd love to agree with you. But.. like all games, there's the element of competition involved. Lets see who can reach 50 million first! :cue post after post in the same thread every night:

And.. as stupid as it sounds, when people were passing 10 mil I only had 1 and I felt the slightest bit left out. Hell, LOTSA people were left out. I had a thousand something posts and one million rep at one point.. and often say new guys with 100-somethin' posts and 5, 7 million.

I suppose the best argument against rep would be this: CPU usage and server bandwidth aint cheap if you run a *professional* bulletin board. Just think of all the wasted pageviews and replies in Post Games because of rep! ;) ;)

You really can "opt-out". Ok, not in appearance, but for real you can not give rep and don't need to read comments. (Even for the most hardcore anti-repper, that's still tough to do..)

Remembering back to when it all started, it does take a certain amount of "0" rep hits to get to one point. So, the first few rep hits you give and get don't advance the number to 1, but it does actually move it fractionally.

I think the reset was a good idea - a clean slate.
Right...

Why do you have 10 rep points?

Is rep over or will it restart now?

from my understanding it has just been restarted, but I received rep after the restart but once I logged out of freeones and came back in that rep no longer showed up on my profile.

Maybe it is game over for rep then??? If rep is restarting, I wonder what it will be like this time around?

Maybe you two missed this thread. As it was in the games section.

There was once only one thread for congrats on rep totals posted by Juballs the 100+ thread. It started life in the members section. But then another came for 200+ and so on. They finally merged into one thread which also grew that big had to be moved too the games section. This then became the only one for a while. Soon others started to appear again. So again there became multiple threads in the games section to congratulate members on certain totals.

So expect these to start up again as well as the repping just for posting in the games section.

It's funny I stopped a lot of posting in the games section when this started. Reason why is on the above link provided. I even know who started all that off, but won't mention names.

I joined the board just as the rep system started. So this is how I remember these.

Right...

Why do you have 10 rep points?

BNF is a SuperMod and no matter how many times he is repped he will never go above that ten. Like he also can't drop to 0. But he can rep a member as much as he likes without it blocking him. The same member 10 times in 10 minutes if he wants too ;)
