Negative rep on the other hand was a substitute for an actual argument, which is fairly insulting as far as I'm concerned.

I avoid it... if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all.
Not to mention I fear retaliatory neg points being thrown back at me... which is kinda dumb since I could really give a rats ass about my rep.

probably, but was it like it is now? now, most people see it as an obligation, or i will rep you if you rep me. i wont name names, but some members used that thread just so their rep total goes up. i was guilty for a little while, but when i realized what the thread was doing, i stopped posting in it.

We'd have to remove a good deal of other threads as well, if we want to eliminate all ways for people to get rep for not posting anything special. :dunno:

It's working. It's just that most people have practically zero rep power, so you will have to be repped a lot to see a change in your rep points.
