As a sports fan following your favorite teams for much of your lives through the good and the bad when does losing so much ex.Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns. When do you choose to abandon the team you have followed much of your life, your hometown team?

Uh, if you are a true fan of your so-called favorite team, then never. It always pisses me off when people change around their favorite teams just because they don't win games. Fair weather fans have always been one of my major pet peeves.

I have changed 4 soccer teams in Turkland since 1998.

In Turkland:
1998-2000: Galatasaray
2000-2000: No team
2000-2001: Besiktas
2001-2002: No team again
2002-2007: Fenerbahce
2007-2008: Kartalspor (my hometown team, they promoted to 2nd division)
2008-Present: No team may be Fenerbahce again.

In Europe:
1997-Present: El Classico with Real Madrid tendency

In America:
1996-Present: Palmeiras

See! I'm not a fan type but a supporter type in Turkish soccer. :)

I've been a fan of Chicago Cubs for 8 years and a fan of Toronto Maple Leafs for 2 years.

I like fandom but i cannot a be fan of Turkish soccer teams at all because they always suck. :)

lets say the team you root for ALWAYS sucks, with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 years of making the playoffs only to get blown out when they get there?

Although my favorite football team is the Chicago Bears, I grew up in Cleveland and I'm a huge Browns fan. The Browns always suck, but I will always be a fan.

Personally, I find anyone who likes a team just because they win to be a joke. New England Patriots fans...where were you before they won a Super Bowl? Tampa Bay Rays fans...where were you before 2 weeks ago? :dunno:

Never in a million years, i support Derby co. and last year we had the worst year in premier league history, but i never stopped cheering, why because there my favourate team and i stick with them through thick and thin

would you agree that it can be very hard to root for a team that is very lackluster like...the detroit lions. They have been very lackluster since the 50's and when they do make the playoffs which is very rare they get routed out. I guess i am just going through a tough time, i have stuck with the lions all this time and its hard, it really is.:(

16 long years of losing for my beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. I will never give up on them. What pisses me off is when or if they ever become good. The real fans who stuck through all the shitty years and still watched every game they could, will never get a fucking seat at the PNC Park. I'm sure thats how it is for all teams and that sucks. I hate people that say they are huge fans of teams but only cause they win. Ok I had to get that off my chest.

Sorry to hear that you are a Browns fan. However, I respect the fact that you stick with them. I hate the Browns but one of my saddest days was when the originals left town for Baltimore.

Speakin of the Browns, seems like that are back on track. The season is far from over and it the AFC North should go down to the wire.

I will never give up on my New York Mets. I'll continue to be a fan through the good and the bad. If you abandon a team when they lose and only cheer for them when they win then you were never a fan.

when your team is at the bottom of the league every year, year after year after year, how does it make you feel?

I am not giving up on my team i have never given up on a team before but i surely do not enjoy watching them getting embarassed every year.

Another long suffering Pittsburgh Pirates fan here. And no, I won't abandon them. Once the playoffs come around I adopt another team (this year it was the Dodgers.....oh well), but I'm still a Pirates fan.

On the other hand, I used to be a diehard Rams fan, but when Georgia Frontiere got busy sabotaging the team in order to relocate the franchise, I stopped being a Rams fan. No way was I going to support that kind of owner.

Here's a question...

What about Cubs fans? Seriously, the Cubs have failed to win a World Series in 100 YEARS!!! Yet, Cubs fans are still the most dedicated fans I have ever seen in my life. Going to Wrigley Field is an experience that needs to be felt by every sports fan on the face of the earth.

I don't want to talk about...Baltimoooooore!!! DAMN YOU ART MODELL!!!

Anyway, yeah...hopefully the Browns will stay on track now. Chances are, they won't, but it's nice to dream about it though.

You should never be able to change your favourite team depending on their standing. Last year, I toned it down a bit, but I was still a Dolphins fan, and I've been a fan of the Blue Jays, Raptors, and Canucks through good and bad.

The only thing that should be able to change your favourite is if the team moves or something. The Expos were my favourite baseball team for years, but when they moved to Washington they simply became shit.

Bottom line for me is that its hard to see your favorite team play so poorly for so long. Sticking with the Lions all these years and when/if they ever win a super bowl it will be even sweeter because i stuck with them for so long.

Exactly!!!

I've always been a White Sox fan and when they finally won the World Series a few years ago I rubbed it in everybody's face. And, they all knew I wasn't a fair weather fan, so they couldn't say anything back. Your patience will be rewarded my friend. When your time comes...it will taste sssssweeeeeet.

I cannot wait to see the day the Cubs win the World Series, then. That is going to be really annoying...

This city will be burnt to the ground and I will be nothing more than a dead body underneath all of the rubble when the Cubs win the World Series.
