Where is The Sands of Iwo Jima?

never even heard of that movie!!!

don't you mean letters from iwo jima?

also what about thin red line, flags of our fathers, jarhead, three kings, amongs hundreds of other war movies. we should probably narrow down the movies to which war and whether it's more action based or drama based.

No....it's a 1949 classic John Wayne movie. Sgt. John Stryker.....USMC.

None of y'all have ever even heard of it? Hoo-boy....maybe I'm getting too old to be hanging around on this board.:dunno::(:crying:

I will agree however about Flags of our Fathers & Letters from Iwo Jima (if you can stomach all the subtitles). Great flicks, more brilliance from Eastwood.

John Wayne is the best period! Sands of Iwo Jima, Green Berets etc....

The oldest film on this list is from what? 1981? Maybe 1979?

Personally I think Paths of Glory to be one of the greatest war films ever made.

And what about The Dirty Dozen?!?!?!?!?

Yeah, certainly a very narrow representation.

I would suggest adding The Great Escape, The Big Red One, A Midnight Clear, Glory and M*A*S*H, just as starters.

Guess I have to see deer hunter...
My vote goes for black hawk down. Seen it in HD its amazing. Plus Gary Gordon was badass and hes from Maine. The quotes at the end of the movie seem to be a deliberate attack on Clinton who I think was a moron. (flame away for that last comment:nanner::nanner::nanner:)

Had to go with Saving Private Ryan, I didnt like the Deer Hunter at all apart from when they are playing Russian Roulette when they have been captured other than that didnt like it.

All Quiet on the Western Front

Band of Brothers

Black Hawk Down

Saints and Soldiers

Passchendaele

Three Kings

The Great Escape

Das Boot

Downfall

U-571

Many great ones, but I'm from Arnhem/The Netherlands, so I woulds say "A Bridge too far."

But from this list: Platoon.

Saving private Ryan almost gave me post traumatic stress when I saw it in a theater. My girlfriend at the time had trouble getting me out of my seat because I was almost catatonic. I was never in a situation where there was something like a 40% attrition rate but the unfiltered lens and hand held camera perspective of the D-Day invasion was cinematically as realistic as anything I've ever seen.

Missing from the list:

Uncommon Valor
The Boys in Company C
The Siege of Firebase Gloria
Ivanhoe
Tropic Thunder
The Longest Day
Midway
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Hell in the Pacific
To Hell and Back
The Red Badge of Courage
The Alamo (John Wayne version)
Gods and Generals
Glory
The Dirty Dozen
