Also, too, I tan a good deal in the summer so I do not want upper half of my face being nice and tan, and the other half being pale.

I generally go with a full beard but I change it up a little every couple of weeks. Goatee for a few days then trim it down to scruff. I only go clean shaven about twice a year. that lasts about four days. Give me a week it's a full grown beard. Hell give me a month and and I can look like Billy Gibbons.
