What is wrong with TV mow days I want the 90's so bad

I want to say there are lots of good TV shows that are good comedy ,romance , drama , education so on.

But has of late do not know if it is the US recession or what but there crap on TV most of the time .

Bring back the 90's !!!

In one week may be there is only 2 or 3 programs that I want to watch .Yet we have 900+ chaneles to choose from.

One person was saying to me the problem is not putting more chaneles out there or the cable or satellite companies but the networks them self are the problem.

Never really understood what he was saing by this. What has happen now . Does the networks need to be change ? Not enough networks or too much a monoply?

The one and only.

I think Winnie Cooper was one of my first crushes as a kid growing up.

Ah, nostalgia. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

TV is a copycat industry. Once something becomes successful, networks will push for their own carbon copy. Also, networks don't want to put the time and money into a show that takes a while to progress. They'd rather air a show that wraps itself up nice and neatly in a 1 hour episode. Lost is an exception to the rule.

The problem is there are too many idiots with watered-down minds who like the shit out now, so they tune in, which gathers ratings for the networks, and naturally it leads to more of the same. Same with music.

So what are they do to protest?

May be the government has to do some thing about the monoply of the networks.

Yes!

Two words: reality television. Think about it: it's easy and cheap to produce and the babbling hordes love that shit. And what few scripted shows there are, they're mostly just copies of older shows. And even if they're decent, they're still written to a standard Hollywood formula. Just like rom-coms... you know how it's going to end as soon as you sit down to watch it. It's a formula that they follow!

Why struggle to keep an intelligent and well written show, like AMC's Rubicon, on the air, when most people would rather watch the antics of "The Real House Whores of X", Snooki, Kim K@rdashian, "Hit Me in the Face With That 2x4" or "Dancing With The Talentless Weirdos"? But if you get the BBC (or BBC America), Luther is also very good.

It really makes a person appreciate shows like The Wire and Breaking Bad when you realize how much total crap is on the air these days. I fully agree with the OP. To see a show that doesn't JUST appeal to the lowest common denominator, you really have to search. I don't watch a lot of TV these days. But I'm learning to keep an eye on the alternative networks (AMC, BBC America, Current, etc.) for shows that don't make me feel dumber than when I turned the set on.

Years ago, there was a syndicated Western on called Lazarus Man. It was great, IMO. The previews of AMC's Hell on Wheels sort of reminds me of that - like a mix of Lazarus Man and Outlaw Josey Wales. It's worth a try anyway. :dunno:

Saturday morning cartoons! :D They need to come back.

Cartoons in general need to come back. They used to start around 2pm on weekdays. Where did they all go?

More boobies should be shown on TV. It is not called the "boob tube" for nothing, damn it!

I concur! Never enough tit count. However on another note shows that I really liked watching such as Carnivàle, Deadwood, Brotherhood and Huff have all been canned. In my opinion they were all good shows that never recieved their full run, yet crappy "reality" shows such as the Kardashian turd runs for god knows how many seasons. After all television is business and those shows are cheap to make and offer greater profit margins. Most telivision is made to appeal to the lowest common denominator, so the discerning viewer does not have that much to watch. The more channels you have the more crap you have to filter through.

I would prefer 70s and 80s.

Some of that too.

Anderson Cooper. :D

Rey has a good point in that reality TV is killing quality programming.

They say it's cheaper to make "reality" programming. That doesn't mean we will watch it. ;)

Real time with Bill Maher is good and I ain't even american.

He's a sensationalist sell out.

Yeah I pretty much refuse to watch network tv now a days, there are probably 2 or 3 sitcoms I actually watch and I spend the bulk of my tv watching time on the few cable channels putting out decent series.

All this reality tv bullshit is getting way out of hand! Its like a snowball, except made out of shit and bile and its just getting bigger and bigger going faster and faster down shit mountain and oh no its heading straight to that orphanage over there!! All reality tv shows is that god has given up on us and we all have a one way ticket to hell thats been punched and the devil is getting really horny!!!

Bring back the 90s in general. Seems like the world has been in a downward spiral ever since GoldenEye came out.

Back in the 90's a lot of people didn't have the net and TV was popular. Now thanks to the net people don't really watch a lot of tv like before and if they do it's usually online.
