What is wrong with John Kasich?

Go team!!!

Grumpy old man

The sun is bright, spring is on the way.

I love you, man.

I like him too....even though I strongly disagree with much of what he stands for. He seems like the type of executive that could bring people together and that's what we need more than anything right now. Hillary, Trump and Cruz are too polarizing. On the other hand, Kasich is pretty plain vanilla (maybe even plainer than vanilla....tapioca perhaps? How about oatmeal?) so he's not going to induce the same media clamor that Hillary, Trump or even Cruz do so I don't see him suddenly becoming the rally point man for the republican party. He is, however, the only candidate on the republican side for whom I would consider casting my vote. If only the republicans would put up a reasonable nominee as an alternative to Hillary to give disenchanted swing voters a viable option....alas, they won't and thus I am left with no real choice at all. What a fucked-up political system!!

Dealing with ISIS, abortion and the death penalty must be your hot button issues.

Other than that, there is not much you should be in disagreement with.

Sounds like he is right up your alley.

If arch-conservatives don't like him, I'm giving him a look. It's like a republican liking Jim Webb a little bit only now it's a libbie liking Kasich a little bit. He's still in the race so he must have at least a small core of support in the GOP.

And yes, some of the items you mentioned are non-starters for me. I'd have to concede certain deficiencies if I were to support him.

Don't bother. As you know, your Chance to cast a vote for him passed last week.

If he is the nom, I'll become vegan.

Quite likely correct. My Chance to vote for him I mean....not you becoming vegan.

I voted for Sanders anyway so the whole thing is moot as you say. I had my Chance and I passed.

"When you’re white, you don’t know what it’s like to be living in a ghetto. You don’t know what it’s like to be poor."

Quite possibly the most outrageous thing ever uttered by a presidential candidate.

Anyone that agrees with that statement is not worthy of my time or the time it takes to respond to them.

Most outrageous? Ever? Really? So you are genuinely outraged about this malaprop? Give me a break. Inaccurate? Yeah, I'd agree with that. So what? Lots of candidates phrase things improperly. The GOP ensemble this year is a cacophony of sound bites that illustrate my point. If you want some examples I'm sure I can easily dig them up but I'd rather not waste my time on such an obvious pursuit. I understand what his message was although I totally agree that he did do a terrible job of conveying it. Hey, he's an old man. And he's not Hillary. Cut him a break.

Tell you what....I'll take you up on your assertion that someone like me is not worthy of "your time or the time it takes to respond to them". I can accept that without any protestations whatsoever if you really mean it.

Yeah possibly the most outrageous ever. I see poor white people everyday.

Trump has said some outrageous shit but at least he directs it at rivals or illegals. Sanders has singled out a segment of the largest segment of Americans and says they can't relate to poverty.

Tell that to the millions of white people that have found themselves on public assistance because of this economy.

You have danced around whether you agree with him or not but it seems that you do. Feel free to join me in utilizing the ignore feature.

Sanders is unelectable. But I say that not because of his policies. But because the American electorate is too stupid to know the difference between socialism and social democracy.

Trump stepped in and kicked ass. He probably won't win the nomination--in part because the GOB party regulars--NOT GOP, but GOB, as in "Good Old Boys"--won't let him. Trump kicked ass with a lot of money and practically no political or historical knowledge. He showed what one man can do in America...a country where the average voter doesn't vote at all. and if they do vote, they vote based on a single issue. Kasich? He's like the only girl at a stag party.

Mitt Romney

John McCain

I really don't understand the level of disdain many conservatives have for these two as candidates. Yes both lost, but both gave the guy who I believe BC has called "the candidate of a lifetime" a major run for his money, which no hard right conservative could have accomplished.
If McCain doesn't chose Palin as VP....
If Mitt doesn't flame out after having Obama pinned against the ropes after their first debate...
Hell if either one of them were running against Hillary and made strategically regional VP choices I believe either one of them would kick Hillary's (who's anything but the candidate of a lifetime) ass.
Instead, vulnerable as she is, she's going to have the good fortune to run against a candidate who's as much or possibly even more polarizing than she is, rather than one with much more moderate and even cross over appeal...like perhaps a Kasich.
And ok, so maybe he's not hard right enough to fully satisfy many conservatives. So what? Isn't winning the first and foremost goal? :dunno:

Have you been paying attention,?
GOP primary turnout is up 50 percent from 2008 and 2012.

Of course you can't understand why two moderates aren't accepted by conservatives. You're a liberal.

Believe me, he only reason McCain did as well as he did was because of Sarah Palin.

The GOP base feels duped. They thought they were being duped in 2008 and 2012 but they are certain they were now.

The last hard right conservative nominated by the GOP won two landslides.

Immigration is fueling this surge. The left will never understand that nor will the establishment Republicans until they are licking their wounds wondering just how in the hell did a bombastic billionaire run rough shod all over them. I'm not a Trump supporter BTW but I see the handwriting on the wall.

I don't use the ignore feature. I try not to let anyone get under my skin to that degree. I mean, after all, it's just a discussion forum.

Likewise, I'm not dancing around anything. I said he misspoke. Of course I don't agree with what he said. What he was trying to convey, and should simply have stated in these words is that "white Americans don't know what it is like to be a black person living in the USA". The actual reference he made about "whites not knowing what it's like to be poor" is so obviously wrong as to be absurd. I know it, you know it and he knows it. It's not the point he was trying to make in reference to the question from the moderator about racial "blind spots" but it ended up being a serious gaffe anyway. I don't blame you or any of the right-wing blogs for jumping on it. Obviously, he's in a serious hole against Hillary with the black electorate anyway and his ill-chosen remarks on Sunday in Flint didn't help his cause to say the least.

Sanders is unelectable. But I say that not because of his policies. But because the American electorate is too stupid to know the difference between socialism and social democracy.

True. Of course, electability has never been a prerequisite in order for me to vote for someone so I'll likely keep voting my conscience instead of who is most likely to win.
