What is the latest good film you watched ?

WarGames. A trend I found is that much talked about 80s films, not being a kid of that decade or just the right age, I don't really rate them high. Unless they're more adult oriented like Terminator and Aliens. Plus I generally don't get a rise out of teen films. Like Ferris Bueller, great movie, but no way I'd say it's one of the best movies in the 80s. Seeing the super old computers is hilarious.

It's pretty good, but the best part was seeing Mandark! The voice actor behind him, I can totally tell by the voice, showing that it's natural. Beautiful, but only in one scene. Broderick sounded like a kid, I had to check how old he was. [NOBABE]Ally Sheedy[/NOBABE] was fucking hot, the bits where she jogged, then stretched barefoot, amazing. The plot's alright, not so much of a thrill ride really. Even though the climax came seconds after this, when the people celebrated, I was disappointed, thinking there should've been more. It came, but you don't even see missiles flying, everything's by the very old computer monitors. Noticing some nice character actors, the blabbering Texan general I recognize from Any Which Way You Can, the bald guy who talked about underachievers, Mr. Strickland from Back to the Future! The underachiever line is totally what he would say even. Michael Madsen in the beginning. Also small lines like the discussion of "backdoors" and how 41 is considered "old," those are just funny by interpretation. Broderick's father in the film, the corn on the cob and the bread slice, that's odd to see, but actually pretty savvy.

Basically the best parts of the movie were the smaller parts. The main one was just fine. I wanted more, but only got something a bit average. Maybe Hobo with a Shotgun desensitized me because that was just a crazy movie. In comparison, I saw Sneakers, a similar theme involving computers and hacking, and that was a bit better, great ensemble cast. This is just one solid level below.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but that new Jurassic World film, I wasn't even going to bother watching it until someone gave a good recommendation, even then I wasn't expecting that much, but it is really really good, takes over your mind, I might even watch it again

Street Fighter! Another amazing movie from 1994. Filled with classics like Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, all the Jim Carrey moves, but standing above them all is fucking Street Fighter!

When I saw it for the first time, taking it seriously, it was awful. Playing Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition on Sega Genesis, and Super Street Fighter on emulated SNES, it was heartbreaking to see the fighters adapted by people that had no business touching them. Really, the only guys that fit, first was the guy who played Vega. The tattoo and blacker hair, those were the only differences. Second is Zangief. Meanwhile Ken and Ryu, so many differences, it's insulting. Skinny, Ken's brunette for fuck's sake, Sagat's skinny, Balrog's weedy, Honda's fucking Hawaiian?! Dee-Jay is skinny, everyone's skinny really. Blanka was skinny, he was the absolute worst adaptation in the film. Even seeing it in the funny light in subsequent viewings, it's still rather insulting.

JCVD was absolutely horrible, again not taking it seriously, he's hilarious. But taking it seriously, he was just bad. The guy's not known for being a great actor, but there's performances elsewhere that accentuate his strengths, while this was too hammy. He clearly tried to go for a gruffer tone to his voice, of course he can't shake off his Belgian accent, despite having to play a US general.

Raul Julia tried his hardest, and he was the best performance in the film, but with the blu-ray quality, it really showed the man being very sickly. The famous monologue he did, his skin looked spotty, and his face looked like it's trying to melt off his body. It's sad that this was my first movie featuring the guy. I'd rather remember him for The Rookie, playing the villain to Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen. Still funny overall, but some sights of him, were a bit uncomfortable.

[NOBABE]Ming-Na Wen[/NOBABE] was pretty hot and did a fine job as Chun-Li, [NOBABE]Kylie Minogue[/NOBABE], a bit hot. Sometimes she looked tired, other times she looked aged. She looks better now, amazingly enough. Her acting here is actually worse than JCVD, accent problems and everything JCVD did, only worse. At least Guile had some funny bits, she added nothing but having to fill in a character. T-Hawk too, absolutely dreadful casting, skinny Native American looking guy. Not a buff and tall Native American man.

This viewing saw me catching all the times Benny the Jet appeared. Remembering the fights he had with Jackie Chan, it was nice to spot the little man. Speaking of little, how tall is JCVD? Him face to face with Raul Julia, the latter towered over him.

Anyways, so bad it's good, so right up my alley. Mortal Kombat was definitely better than this, the first one. Hilarious from start to finish in this viewing. My second and third viewing had me kind of letting it go and thinking people hated it too much. So I took it as a decent action movie. Now I take it as a laugh fest.

Finally got around to seeing Birdman (or The blah, blah blah....) and I was disappointed. It was very well acted and creatively photographed, but the plot! I found it predictable and I'm surprised it won the Oscar for Best Film, Considered yes, Nominated Okay, but win! Good yes but not that great.

On a side note, I never heard of the Author of the Short Story that the Play within the Film was based on, so I checked Wikipedia. I was amazed to find he lived in Sunnyvale, San Jose and Cupertino in almost the same years I did! He could have been my next door neighbor and never meet him.

the trailer is better than the film :suspicious:

I just saw Mission Impossible 5. It was a really good movie. A couple of unbelievable scenes with trained assassins having dead-straight shots at Cruise, and not even flesh-wounding him. (Similar to the opening scene of "Spy," with Jude Law running down a grassy slope.) So, I'd say four stars and not five. But, a PHAT motorcycle chase scene, in Morocco. Best one since "Matrix 2." And the newcomer, a redhead actress named Elizabeth, goes toe-to-toe with Cruise, and almost steals the movie. And, yes - she has an obligatory black bikini scene, which she fills out nicely. ;-)

Kelly's Heroes.

I love that movie.

I love that movie too, it moves along quickly, and it looks like a barrel of fun.

Grindhouse. I saw the double feature version just for the middle trailers. [NOBABE]Sybil Danning[/NOBABE] looked hot, and Nicolas Cage made me laugh out loud.

I saw the two movies in their individual unrated versions, back to back. Planet Terror's amazing, but last time I saw it, I didn't note many of the actors, not knowing them then. Only really Bruce Willis, but this time, I reacted much better to them, rather than just the gore and violence. Josh Brolin's awesome, Michael Biehn's awesome, Tom Savini's hilarious, [NOBABE]Rose McGowan's[/NOBABE] great, the ball cutter scientist is pretty funny as he's totally a parody and put in as exposition. Michael Parks is nice, [NOBABE]Marley Shelton's[/NOBABE] great. Oh and the Machete trailer was awesome. The movie's just brilliant, no flaws I care to pick out, it's perfect for what it is. The child gun shooting scene though is still shocking, I didn't even remember them actually showing the head wound. They did, damn! The infected body parts slideshow is still shocking too.

Death Proof's great, but it did risk being a bit bloated. It's very dialogue heavy, and it takes a while for the action to come in. Planet Terror could've sat nicely in the 70s and 80s, but Death Proof wouldn't perfectly, because of the dialogue. It has the Tarantino banter that grindhouse movies of the past probably never had, but there's the feeling of exploitation with the sexualized women, then the strong trio in the second half. I was going back, and the time Stuntman Mike played with [NOBABE]Rosario Dawson's[/NOBABE] feet, was a freaking hour into the movie! It went by quickly, but damn, it just shows how much dialogue's in it.

I think you have to be in the right mood and time for a film like that, and I was watching it so late at night, a risk of dozing off. Planet Terror in comparison was loud and action filled from start to finish. Maybe if I saw the Grindhouse version, which is 10-20 minutes, I wouldn't nitpick a bit. This viewing, it's great, but still, straddled the line between spicy dialogue, and just self-indulgence. The car violence is amazing, and the final chase is still the best one I ever saw. [NOBABE]Zoe Bell[/NOBABE] was badass, the kick in the end is classic.

So on this viewing, Planet Terror wins. Before that, I'd say Death Proof, but given the very late night, Terror did it for me. However, as far as single performance between the two movies, Kurt Russell was fucking awesome! I finally felt bad that he was beaten to death, and I'm still a bit miffed he didn't kill the [NOBABE]Zoe Bell[/NOBABE] trio. Why did he settle on just the crashing? He clearly opened himself up for the gunshot.

Interesting to think back. Bruce Willis in Planet Terror, John McClane. In Death Proof, [NOBABE]Mary Elizabeth Winstead[/NOBABE], McClane's daughter in Die Hard 4.

Briefly, I do want to mention the two Andy Sidaris films I saw. Hard Hunted, or how I'll call it, Fanny Packs. A lot of those. The second film, Fit to Kill. They're Andy Sidaris films, not much to talk about. Action, hot girls, nude scenes, and the women are stronger than the man. Sexualized, yes, but they handle guns better, that's for sure. Watching these films in the 12 movie collection, I just realize how great some of the recurring actors were. Rodrigo Obregon's fantastic. Only he could go from clean cut bad guy to bearded curly haired stoic bad guy, to a man in drag, to a guy with a scar and eye patch, to a damn Russian! Great films.

Death Proof would have been better without all the banal banter. I'm not sure if it was the actresses performances or the script, but there was way too much dialogue.
The only things I remember liking was Rose McGowan and the car chase scenes.

Planet Terror is better in most respects, and once again Rose McGowan was great.

I remember watching the Machete clip and wondering if it was from an actual movie.

Ahhh yes, that's a funny one, Antonella. I've seen it several times. Well, it really wasn't that I wanted to see it several times. It's that earlier in the year, for a period there, I was helping look after a step nephew and The Croods was one of the DVDs he wanted to watch again ... and again ... and again.
