First off,I really don't understand why any company would even bother putting a movie like this on Bluray.Do rom-coms really need to be in HD?
Now I've never gushed over Meryl Streep, but if you really wan't to see her in a good movie that come out recently, check out Doubt. She's excellent,as is Philip Seymour Hoffman, but then again, when isn't he.Good movie and definitely worth watching.
Haha, I can totlaly understand. Basically I don't really see any overly long mainstream Hollywood financed & backed romantic/comedies as being worthy of being mastered in HD and being put out on Blu-Ray, and I am a HUGE lover and supporting of this faily new (has only been out to us consumers since '07) format that is just now catching on, and I'm a huge cinephile who loves many genres and sub-genres of movies in general as I believe it is an artform.
But I will say, however, that while very bland, and of course dull and formulaic, that at least with once shining brightly stars like Steve Martin and the like that it was of course expertly acted for what it is, and the now slimmed down and oddly nice muscular Lake Bell looked absolutely stunning and killer the very little she was on screen. The mercifully breif part in which she and a badly pretending to act high/stoned out of his gord Steve Martin were dancing, she was so nice and sensual looking. Especially the slow-motion shot in which she is first introduced to us (the audieance).
And I find Ms. Streep an amazing actress, but the last truely great role she was in was hands-down Silkwood, which is sadly based on a royally fucked-up and true story of a worker from rural community in I believe northwest-ish Oklahoma. I actually got both the long out of print Anchor Bay version of that on standard def DVD, as well as the out of print itself MGM DVD, too. Indeed she is a fine actress, but she need's to take more challanging roles and not just ones that her and her girly friends would enjoy seeing. She most certainly is modern acting royality and has the chops, but her agent & manager need to call some of us once she quits acting in shit many males would be embarrassed to even order online at Amazon for our monthly bulk orders.
Meanwhile the other day I took my $7.50 off coupon (basicallyt a free ticket) to go see the Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) remake with one of my older brothers on Sunday for an early 5:00 screening. And I liked it enough for an abve-average mainstream remake. I'd give it a B+ over all. Surprisngly well made dispite some "fanboy" backlack and bickering is all I'm gonna say. I personally dug it for several reasons.
