I'm going against the grind and say "Avatar 2"
Not necessarily a "bad" movie, in fact I actually like many parts of it. But I would call it "disappointing".
I watched it not only in 3D, but the Full HFR (High frame rate), ATMOS, etc - i.e. the "best" version out there.
The 3D was good - not too overpowering. Story was bleh, but no one really cares about that in Avatar.
The framerate was noticeably better than any film I've seen in a theatre - but the issue was it's inconsistent. You'd go from one shot of full high frame - then jump to a "normal" framerate shot. They had an unlimited budget & all the time in the world - they should have been able to keep that framerate for the entire film.
I also wasn't a fan of the Japanese logos on the harpoon gun. I'm fine with the whole "save the oceans" message, but for a white director to be criticizing racialized people about their traditional practices - fuck that. If Top Gun was smart enough to not call out a specific nation, Cameron should have known better. Speaking of which, despite a HEAVY emphasis on indigenous culture (notably the Maori), apparently there were no cultural consultants for the film. That just oozes cultural appropriation.
Lots more I could comment about, but I want to avoid a full text-wall review. Let's just say I was ok with the visual experience, but still dissatisfied at the end.
What I do hope for is that the new Transformers film uses the same tech. That's a film that would look awesome with that framerate.
