What exactly ARE they protesting?

What these pawns of THE GOV should be protesting if anything is THE GOV itself but theyre too brainwashed to figure that out.
that might make sense if 'these pawns' were literally protesting bankers. They aren't.

The fetish of commodity is what runs this country, not "government". Replace all of Congress and the President and the Supreme Court, who you get to replace them will be the exact same corporate-interest serving plebes. I'd say if you want to affect government, directing your ire at the corporate empires is actually the right place

Shifty

O.G.
Meanwhile Bank of America pays severance packages totaling over 17 million dollars to two people AND plans to lay off 30,000 people.

Leadership is expensive. Executives negotiate every last employment detail up front before they sign.

You desire that caliber of talent in your organization? Then you pay for it, or they walk.

Because someone else will pay. That's just the way it goes.

thats awesome? shutting down the most important port in northern california, fucking up trade and commerce all over the place, causing damage to every business, not just the "greedy corporate" ones.

and the strike that had 300 teachers not show up to work, causing classes to either be cancelled, or combined creating an even tougher environment on an already stressed school system. how in the FUCK is that productive at all?

or how about when they marched to CAL Berkeley to protest at the tuition office, only to find it closed, so they yell and scream at the security guards for being assholes, simply because theyre doing the job they were hired to do. how in the fuck does that help anything? at all?

this is all just a bunch of bullshit, being carried out by whiney, dirty, useless people who dont have the gusto to get off their asses and get a job. its as simple as that. people are trying to relive the 60's, cause what they see in movies and history books looked fun and easy. that latter word being the key word.

Yup, the 60's were so much fun, another protest that Conservatives conveniently skipped.

whoa whoa whoa. dont you fucking use that shit as a counter to what i said. how dare you?! i have never, and will never compare myself you those fucking white supremacist pigs.

and while i give props to the 60's hippies who actually did protest, and burn their draft cards (rather than running and hiding like those who went to canada), that was a different time. they were (for the most part) fighting against an (arguably) unjust war and racial inequality. what were seeing today is completely different.

those that are sitting around on their asses now are just that. sitting on their asses. i didnt have a job a little over a year ago, and i was bitching about how tough it was to find one. then my family told me to suck it up and get out there. and you know what happened? i got a fucking job, cause i did just that. it doesnt pay much, only slightly over minimum wage, but i did it. and im not bitching about it. im saving what money i get, while setting some aside to have on the weekends. soon ill have enough to move out, coupled with my AA that ill hopefully have soon and get a better paying job. am i gonna get paid 100k a year? shit no.

do i think i should have that pay just cause the wealthy are wealthy? fuck no. nor should anyone else. each and every person has to do what they need to do to survive. and counting on the government, and the wealthy part of the country to provide for them isnt the way to do it. you need to get off your ass, get out there and do what YOU NEED to do. not what the community needs or thinks they need to do.

now, i did just back from a trivia night at the bar, so that may have come out as gibberish. but hey, thats what i think

How dare I what? YOU said that 60's were fun and easy, I didn't. And it were not just white supremacists that didn't participate in the civil rights movement, most of the conservatives didn't. A quick look at National Review archives will show you that.

It is different because the current issues matter to all races and everyone. Income inequality and corporate ownership of the political system effects everyone.

That's exactly what they are protesting against, if you think you would be a special case to suddenly find a better paying job while its gets worse for everyone, then you are being delusional. And by the pay, pollng shows that 57% of people in the Occupy movement do have jobs, but they are willing to look what's happening around them rather than just their own.

This is the problem, you do not even understand the issue but build a strawman of 'should have the pay of the wealthy'. What should bother you is that you pay more in taxes and get less in benefits while your income deteriorates every year. And this is because the wealthy own the government, they get lobbyists to pass laws that benefit them. They get lawmakers to create more loopholes in their tax code while you pay more labelled as 'fees'.(ask me for examples if you want)

And if you think these issues are going away just because you got a low paying job, wait until social mobility deteriorates and everyone is scrambling for your job.

Awesome, yea! Send back all of those chinese mfged trinkets! :elaugh:
But from what I gathered after a quick read - they are stopping goods from LEAVING the US. (I hope my dyslexia was kicking in)
That's stoopid, if they were turning back the Chinese-made goods, I'd applaud it, but seems bass ackwards to me if they are stopping the flow of exports.

Rattrap

Doesn't feed trolls and would appreciate it if you
Not gonna lie; I can't say the country I'm in now is any better (though I think it is, if only marginally), but this thread here highlights the sort of discourse that brought me to leave the USA: politics is treated like football. You pick your sides, hunker down, and fight with everything you got, whether it makes sense or not (but everybody's quite good at making it seem like their position makes sense...or you know, fight for your side when it's not even about sides fighting).

That's for anybody who has referred to a group of people as 'dirty hippies' or 'neo-cons'. With dialogue like that, I wish us the best of luck, 'cause it sure as hell isn't critical thinking that'll get us anywhere better.

You and people like you are the reason why the US is fucked. Our government has been waging an economic war against the working class that started with Reagan. During the course of this war they've managed to brainwash some of you to such a degree that you actually see the OWS movement as a bad thing. Our government is bought and paid for by private entities who only act in their own interest and what do you do? You bitch about the people who are trying to change it.

SO a guy trying to gets his life back in order is why the US is fucked?? I'm sorry but I don't have the time to go and camp out at one of these occupy movements, I gotta work and pay bills so me, my daughter and the rest of my family won't be stuck on the streets! Now i'm not happy with how things are being run but trust me this shit has been working this way a hell of alot longer before Reagan was even a sparkle in his dads ball sack!
I am all for the 1% of people actually participating in these rallies for what its suppose to be for and not the 99% of 'anarchists' and total douche bags that just wanna cause havoc and be on network tv news!

Just don't start bashing people who are working their ass off trying to make things work in the fucked up system!

They are practicing the ART of protesting rather than actually protesting anything. That way in case something comes up that needs protesting, they've got it made. I'm not entirely sure why they are protesting, but I am not a fan of this Occupy bullshit. I agree society needs to change, but without a change in mind why protest? It's protesting for protesting's sake. "Oh hey what are you protesting for?" "I'm protesting for change" "Well, what are you hoping to change." "Uhhhhhh......legalize marijuana!" Right? :2 cents:
