I remember one time a manager hung up on someone who called asking if they were hiring. She said, if they can't take the time out to come down here and ask if we are hiring, they don't deserve to work here. Take some time and show up in person, it goes a long way than calling up and asking.
Now you go into a place and before a name can even come out they immediately say: Go home and do it online. All without looking up you in the eye.
