The World's Best Army?

No-fucking-one did mention the Germans. Why?
Because we won't have one in the near future due to steep cuts and we always have to clean up the **** after a war somewhere.

On-Topic: All superhero armys in Hollywood movies

This is not a simple answer, the US in terms of technology and numbers is the best by far. But in terms of modern warfare where you are fighting small insurgent groups amongst civilians then I'd say the British are the best ones disciplined for the role. Too many US soldiers have gone nuts and lashed out at innocent civilians (I've posted many of those stories here on Freeones) and these air strikes and drone strikes often **** more civilans than enemy insurgents which is simply noted as collateral damage but in reality only turns more people to ****** so you end up creating more terrorists than you **** in the long term. The British work well with local communities and earn their trust and respect which is far better as a long term solution, once you start 'accidently' ******* civilians the people will never accept you (as the perception will be you don't value their lives) and will help those that are fighting against you. The British have also showed their discipline and restraint in Northern Ireland and even following past IRA/REAL IRA attacks have never lashed out on the general public and used their complex network of intelligence to go for the right people thus keeping the civilians either on their side or indifferent at best. In summation a full nation on nation war the US would prevail but chasing groups of insurgents located amongst 'friendly' civilian populations then I'd say the British, the best soldier needs to be much more than a ******* machine. Up to 1939 I'd say the Germans by far but they were ruined by Hitler and the SS with their crazy racist ideology.

Sad but understandable.

Terrorist do not use the uniforms because they are cowards.

The terrorist are hiding behind civilians...

I vote China. Though the U.S. is right there. And I'd vote U.S. for best over-all military.

I think some of you guys picked nations that can defend themselves, but they wouldn't have a prayer if they invaded a country with a decent army.

Somebody mentioned Israel. I'm more impressed by the Mossad than I am by their army. I guess they'd be up against the C.I.A., MI6, KGB, etc.

China? Are ou fucking kidding me? They couldn't even stand up to India!
China's military capability is so poor that she resorted to reliance on economic warfare after the Damansky Island incident.

US army technology the best? Give me one example. Perhaps you can explain to me why, if US army tech is the best, Western Europe is buying the CV90, everybody else is buying the BMP3 Troika and NOBODY is buying the Bradley IFV (which puts a whole new spin on the "Infantry Fighting" part of "Infantry Fighting Vehicle",)

Then you thought wrong.
You can see how he'd make the mistake though.

As for another viewpoint on the worlds best army: Russia has some EXCELLENT equipent, but the Grandfather culture RUINS the Russian army.

That's guerilla warfare for you when facing a much larger but less mobile enemy, they will mingle with civilians who will not take up arms but may well be sympathetic to the motives of the terrorists (they would see them as freedom fighters). Not only Al-Qeada but also the likes of the Real IRA, Tamil Tigers and Basque Seperatists etc

The British just use the Orangemen to keep the IRA in check. One terrorist/freedom fighter against another.....

Zombies. They are relentless, merciless, don't need training, don't need money, and they're so fearsome that they EAT their enemies -- and give rise to even more undead, thus swelling their ranks to help spread around the world like wildfire. Worse, you can shoot them and they'll keep on coming, unless your aim is good enough to put a cap in their head. A much tougher shot than the movies would have you believe.

Japanese Army.. they single handedly conquered China and would have succeeded if it wasn't for America's help (A-Bomb). Also Vietnamese is pretty baddass. They defeated the invading Chinese army in the Sino-Vietnamese war. In their ancient past, the Vietnamese also defeated the Mongols (one of the ruthless barbarians) 3 times in a row.

If that was true then how come the Soviets completely annihilated the Kwantung Army in about two weeks in 1945? The Red Army at the end of WWII was by far the greatest military ***** the world has ever seen. They could have taken Europe if they wanted to.

Realize most of the Kwangtung Army's heavy equipment and seasoned vets were sent to the Pacific. Irregardless of that the Japanese had no defense even in the best of times against a massed Soviet assault by armor, artillery and aircraft. Zhukov beat the pants off the Japanese in 1939.

Yep!! Zhukov knew how to get the job done.

Too bad that no one has ever made a documentary of war hospitals.

Such a program should always be present when people talk about war related heroism.

Woah is that two guys I see lamenting a "Soviet" general? lol.

Just giving credit where it's due. :D

It's lucky for the Soviets and Stalin that Zhukov wasn't ****** in the great military purge or they would've been seriously fucked in 1941 and 1942. Zhukov didn't have the tactical brilliance of someone like Rommel or Patten, IMO, but he certainly knew how to make the best use of his strengths and the tools at hand (which are hallmarks of every great general in history). He had great organizational ability, acted decisively and always stayed on the ******, had virtually unlimited manpower and military resources, superior tanks, massed artillery/rocket strikes working in conjunction with his armor, a total disregard for casualities, and no tolerance of weakness from subordinates. In other words, he had numerical advantages in men and equipment, and he made full use of them to pound the Germans with overwhelming firepower and brute ***** -- regardless of the cost in lives.
