The Israeli Army. In modern times, no doubt Israelis have been protecting Israel from all fronts who claimed Jerusalem is rightfully theirs.

For a Soviet soldier it was more dangerous to retreat than it was to charge the enemy. If a Soviet soldier were to retreat he would be executed and his ****** would go to the Gulags without any rations.

Red Army had a hard discipline, but also Finnish army would punish those who retreated without permission.

If 'best' means most effective fighting unit then the award has to go the Afghan mujahadeen.

Hardly, they lose just every engagement they enter. I just wish I could get a hold of their body count to show you. Not terribly bright fighters either, but what they are is rugged and very determined, making them extremely dangerous.

Sweden and Norway do not want war with Russia.

Finland does not have options.

The Republic of Korea is pretty much up there, I mean they have North Korea and their nutbag leader to contend with. I have a ****** that is ROK marine and those guys are pretty badass.

I vote China. Though the U.S. is right there. And I'd vote U.S. for best over-all military.

I think some of you guys picked nations that can defend themselves, but they wouldn't have a prayer if they invaded a country with a decent army.

Somebody mentioned Israel. I'm more impressed by the Mossad than I am by their army. I guess they'd be up against the C.I.A., MI6, KGB, etc.
