The Spain I know is back.
Everytime it's getting serious... bang!

The next match on June 17, a 1-0 victory over Iraq, saw Spain share the all-time record of 14 consecutive victories with France and Brazil. In their next match, Spain overcame the hosts South Africa 2-0. This not only gave Spain the world record for consecutive wins (15 wins) but it also tied them with Brazil for the 35 game unbeaten streak. David Villa and Fernando Llorente scored the two goals of the match.

On June 24th, 2009, Spain's undefeated streak ended when the United States stunned Spain in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup semi-finals, 2-0. Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey scored the goals for the United States. (Wikipedia)

Maybe it happened just at the right time. And in 2010 they are prepaired in such a case.

Anyway, well done, Team USA!

Btw: Soccer Babes, body painting, American, Spanish and more :)

i dont follwo much soccer are we that good or was this a fluke

The US has a soccer team? Who knew?

J/K.

Hats off to them.:hatsoff: A little luck and a lot of heart.

And the amazing part is, these guys aren't even the best athletes the US has to offer. All the best play in the NFL or NBA.

Congrats to the team. Now do it in the World Cup and maybe someone in the States will pay attention to you. (for at least a week or two anyway)

The discrepancy in Professional Payroll on the field, between Spain and the U.S. is probably awesome and might make this the greatest upset (by dollars) ever?

Total Spain payroll on the field -- $180 million (U.S.)????
Total U.S. payroll on the field -- $3 million (U.S.) ????

There was that baseball upset earlier in the year where the Dutch beat the Dominican Republic (twice) which was filled with major leagers. I'm sure the difference in saiaries was at least close to this one.

Historically speaking---total fluke.

Spain being the #1 team in the WORLD and the U.S. being #14...and probably not even earning that #14 ranking....

This is the 2nd Greatest win in US Men's National Team history. The greatest win would be 1998 win over Brazil for Concacaf Gold.

Can the U.S. take the momentum from this win and actually win the Confed Cup on Sunday?

:thefingerCan the U.S. *spin* this win into a SHOCKING WIN next month in Azteca against the Mexicans, who have owned our asses in Mexico???:thefinger

Look at them. They win one (rather) big international soccer game and immediately they start fluffing up. :D
You Americans are only interested in a sport, when you are "Number One", aren't you? ;)

A hell of an effort? How about "sheer luck". ;) During some parts of the game, Spain had one chance per minute. You were lucky you weren't shot into the next millenium. :D I have not seen many games that went that lucky for the underdog.
The US is no where near #1, we played a nice game today though. That sheer luck comment is BS, they put together a unified gameplan and the whole team worked their ass off, this was not a 1-0 squeaker they won this game. Most of the time you are referring to where Spain was creating a lot of chances was when we were down a man for a fucking bullshit redcard of which I have not seen that many worse calls in my life. Personally i didn't even think it was a foul.

great thread titsrock!

Maybe Soccer IS going to IGNITE:flame: in the U.S.!
Come on, it didn't ignite in 2002 when they reached 1/4 final of the Worl Cup, it won't ignite now.

Confederation Cup is a minor competition, the big team such as Italy, spain or Brasil came here to do some try-outs, check the hotels, the stadiums, the pitch, the weather... They didn't came to win, they came yto test a fw things.

It may be a minor competition that happens to have a decent Champion's List....

Successful national teams
Team Titles
Brazil 2 (1997, 2005)
France 2 (2001, 2003*)
Argentina 1 (1992)
Mexico 1 (1999*)
Denmark 1 (1995)

I think this is a fairly substantial World Cup tuneup. This year--Brazil has been playing it's A Squad (minus Ronaldinho). Spain had the Big Guns out there. Italy had their full squad and subbed in Toni against the U.S..

The U.S. has been picking up red cards in this tourney. That has to stop. It obviously helped Italy pound us, but we picked up a "suspect" red card in the 85th minute, which seemed like a "beneficial" call for Spain. The tackle was not even worth a booking let alone a red:mad:

I've got the replay going right now on ESPN 2....:glugglug:

US Soccer needs a serious cup (regional cup or world cup) to ignite the soccer fever in USA.

The importance of this match was that Spanish national team was unbeaten for 35 games in a row. If they won over or had a draw against US national team, it was going to be 36 which is the all time record for being unbeaten. Spain is sharing the record with Brazil, 35-35.

I hate calling it as soccer! It's football dammit! You play it with your "feet"!

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
the biggest US win was probably the 1950 (I think that was the year) victory over England in the World Cup. I love soccer but it will never be "big" here. But there are enough fans to support a top league and some minor leagues. Each sport has a place, arguing the merits and other inane points is just an exercise in futility

Well done US, *bleepin* spanyards needed to be taken back to earth. BUT: no need to get too excited about, because the Spanish team could easily have won by a two digit margin, so it's almost safe to say they kinda beat themselves. "Kinda" because you need to score your own goals, which the US did. But don't get your hopes up too high when next year's WC is on its way.

Wow, someone's sensitive. :D
Sorry, but you've had a lot of luck. Of course you put up a fight and shot two good goals. It would have been pretty embarrassing if you hadn't been able to capitalize on the bad day the Spanish had.
The red card was legit. There's no arguing that. It's what we call "Tätlichkeit", which means he wasn't going after the ball, he was going after the player. He was clipping him and was on top of that taking the "advantage". End of discussion. Just because he plays for America, doesn't mean the rules don't apply. Same thing goes for the much discussed red card in the game against Italy. Clark was sliding into the other one's sprint from the side, kicking his knee, no intention to play the ball.

Hi!
I am from Spain.... .... .... .... ¬¬
But I have to say: well done USA.
I am sad for the loss of the soccer team from my country (35 consecutives wins :) ) but yesterday USA defended very good and they deserved wins... although it fuck me hahaha

My sincere congratulations and now for Brazil hehe
((at least Spain for the 3 place :1orglaugh ))

see ya

tartanterrier

Is somewhere outhere.
I watched the game last night and I thought the US thouroughly deserved their win.
Spain were absolutely shit and they deserved what they got.....a big boot up the arse.

As for the final I think the Brazillians will win it,as I think they won't muck about like the
Spaniards did.I thought Bradley played a big part in the game and with him being missing,
it'll cost the US dearly.Good to see Watford defender Jay Demetrit got a good game.He
might bring us in a lot of dough during the summer :thefinger

But back to the point.Well done USA
