The reason for buying a gun

I enjoyed reading this post. Very informative! I can imagine if we ever met up at a gun show we'd have a good time just chatting.

I believe that.

What would you buy from there?

My purchases; M/44 "Peltiheikki" submachine gun if there would be vintage weapons for sale.

I just go to gun shows to window shop these days. I haven't bought anything in a long time. The pal I go with is a cop and we just go to walk around and see what's what... what's new and what sort of old weapons are on display. Gun shows are also a good place to get a read of current market values for the things I do have, in case I decide to finally unload some stuff.

Some things (like machine guns) aren't even for sale. I'm especially fascinated by military arms from around the turn of the 19th century, as many of them made it into WWI. Another guy who I used to hang around with (my lawyer, actually) had a machine gun from the WWI era. I think it was called a Maxim maybe??? He died several years ago, so I've lost my opportunity to really check it out.

I've finally come to realize how much money I've wasted on cars, guns and girls over the years. Though it has been fun, window shopping all of those categories is a lot easier on the wallet. :D

The police and the attonary. (wtf)

Ray my son, what kind of friends you have?

Well, maybe old murder tools are more interesting than new ones due to the appearance.

Maxim machine gun...is it like this?

It is great that you have not spent your money in the things that you do not like. :jester:

For me it would be a M2 HB, a BAR as well as a full auto M14

That's a good start for a gun collection.

It's too bad that the guns are quite expensive.

A M2HB is very expensive and also the 50bmg is prohibited in some states , the bar runs very high in terms of price near 20000-30000$, the full auto m14 more affordable near 7000-12000$ but you have to find a vietnam era period correct one. In France, you can't own full auto guns nor even a 50bmg rifle

A burned out banker, a crooked lawyer and a rogue cop... seems like quite a happy group to me. :suspicious:

I'm not sure. I never saw it. I'm not even sure that it was a Maxim... could have been a Vickers or something else. I just remember that it was from WWI and he had a VERY hard time finding ammunition for it.

The problem is, the things I have always liked tended to cost a fair amount of money.

Another good reason for having a gun nut cop as your gun show walking buddy, he'll buy things that you like and you can still shoot them from time to time.

When I was a kid I often found old Indian arrowheads made from flint on my dad's farm near a creek. And you might find the head from a stone ax or a spear. But anything other than that would be a pretty unusual find in the U.S. I've heard of rusty muskets and rifles from the Civil War being found, but there's not much left of them.
