Corn this year isn't growing as good around here as it did the last two years. Not there is anything to worry about and it will be fully matured before the time it's needed to be harvested, but it's not growing like crazy like it did last year.

Nice lookin environment in which you reside, sir, what's your approx elevation?

Also, ae there really lettuce fields in northern Colorado?
For some reason I have a difficult time believing this.... of course it couldn't hurt for me to research this on my own... :o

All this bloody rain is stunting the growth of the plants. ;-(

Much cooler spring temps this year I suspect? Yea, same here.

My house is at about 6200 feet (1890 meters). Due to a lack of any major rivers exiting the mountains here in "The Springs", commercial agriculture is limited but to the north of me on the South Platte (Fort Collins area) and to the south of me along the Arkansas River (Pueblo to Lamar) there are hundreds of farms producing produce along these two mountain-fed rivers.

Colorado Front Range gets a LOT of sun. With an average elevation of approximately 5600 feet and over 250 days of sunshine per year, not only can you get sunburned faster than most other places, fast-growing plants love the hot dry summers here.

Lettuce is a fast-growing cool-weather crop and actually does very well in Colorado if planted early enough. The hot summer days are too warm so by mid July, cool-loving crops like lettuces are either rotated for other crops or raised under the shade of huge sun-diffusing tarps.

If you ever visit Colorado during the summer, be sure to travel along historic Hwy 50 - taking time to visit the melon capital of the world, Rocky Ford Colorado. Stop by Smiths Corner and say hi to Greg - tell him the melons are for me and demand a discount :1orglaugh

My sunflowers are a bit stunted this year - just under 5' at the moment but they should get to over 6 ' by mid summer. Had a bunch of 9' ones with 14" heads a few years back but we won't make that this year.

Send us some - Although the runoff from the mountains is still sufficient so far this year, here on the front range, we haven't had enough to keep a thistle alive without irrigation.

Would love to.

I really need to come up with something for next year. My raised beds have pretty good drainage, just not for a shit ton of water all at once.

My potatoes have yellowed and wilted...going to dig them up this weekend and see if maybe I have at least baby potatoes for dinner. I suspect though, they're rotting in the ground.

My hanging tomato plant is also officially toast.

However, the pumpkins are loving it. Had 2 hot days and the fuckers doubled in size.

Nice quaint urbanized garden there buddy. Two of those photos are definitely HGTV quality (the 1st and the last one).

My ex and I laid every stone in that yard our-self. Something like 33 pallets hand cut and placed. I hope to find time to put the tipi up before mid July.

Oh - I've already been on HGTV - but that was in a different life.

Gorgeous!

I showed it to hubby and he said that he figures it was pretty pricey to do.
There goes my hopes of having a set-up like that. :dunno:

I never really kept track - at the time I was making big bucks as CEO of my old company and my ex was a very hard working stripper (back when strippers made money) but I figure that we have well over 30K in stones, dirt, gravel, plants, tipi and deck , greenhouse, and hot tub. Hell, the three big granite rocks delivered and placed cost almost 4 grand

I could never afford to do it peddling porn in today's "mother-fuckers steal everything I work hard to produce" market but I do manage to keep it up.

You are welcome to stop by with the hubby and grill if you are ever in town though.

wottle

I'm so horny, even the crack of dawn isn't safe
Can only do window sill, container where I Live now. Bumper crop of Basil and chives. Cillantro did not work. Sativa for color in the living room window. Grow ANYTHING YOU CAN !!

33 Pallets? :eek::eek:

:surprise: Were those from a 'warehouse' (ie. Home Depot, Lowes)? Or were those from a specialty distributor?

Also loving the double-knock-out roses.

some of my tomatoes. fighting the heat but doing well.

for some reason, this watermelon is done already, and way earlier than the rest.

oh and some scallions. yummy.

I need to give scallions a go next year.

I dug up some of the potatoes to see if they were rotting since the plants are now dying, and I've got a bunch of baby potatoes. So, I guess I'll do roasted baby potatoes at my BBQ this weekend.
