The moment comedian Jon Stewart lost his cool with Fox News host Chris Wallace

He hardly lost his cool, they should've got in a fist fight but neither seemed interested

'You are insane!' The moment comedian Jon Stewart lost his cool with Fox News host Chris Wallace

It was pitched as a classic grudge match between the left and right of network television.

And when Daily Show host Jon Stewart entered the 'lions den' of Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, the results did not disappoint.

Despite trying to maintain his comedic detachment, Stewart lost his temper during the 15 minute interview as the two TV heavyweights battled over perceived liberal biased in the mainstream media.

Reaction: Jon Stewart upped the ante in his sparring with match with Chris Wallace

The conversation started jovially, with Mr Wallace joking to Stewart: 'After months of evasion, disconnected phone numbers and press agents saying 'who are you again' it appears he has run out of excuses.'

There were even jokes about the sparring partners drinking from two Fox News branded mugs, with Mr Stewart suggesting the water may in fact be poisoned.

But the atmosphere quickly turned serious as Mr Stewart, angered by questions over his own 'liberal' bias, snapped.

The audience were shown a transcript of Mr Stewart describing Fox News as a, 'relentless agenda-driven 24 hour news opinion propaganda delivery system.

Mr Wallace the asked the comedian: 'Where do you come up with this stuff.'

Stewart responded: 'Uh, it's actually quite easy.'

Calm: Mr Wallace remained calm as he probed Mr Stewart

After repeated prodding, Wallace then played a clip of Mr Stewart comparing a video of Sarah Palin's recent bus tour to a herpes commercial.

Mr Stewart erupted: 'You're insane... Here's the difference between you and I.

'I'm a comedian first. My comedy is informed by an ideological background, there's no question about that.

But the thing that you will never understand...is that Hollywood, yeah, they're liberal, but that's not their primary motivating force. I'm not an activist. I am a comedian.'

Addressing issues of bias in the main stream media, Stewart responded: 'Do I want my voice heard.

'Absolutely, that's why I got into comedy. Am I an activist, in your mind? A partisan ideological activist.

Mr Wallace answered with a short, 'Yeah.'

'Okay, then I disagree with you.' Stewart said.

Rising in temper again, he said: 'You can't understand, because of the world that you live in, that there is not a designed ideological agenda on my part to affect partisan change because that's the soup you swim in.

'And I appreciate that, I understand it. It reminds me of in ideological regimes, they can't understand that there is free media other places because they receive marching orders.'

Composure: Despite flashes of anger, Mr Stewart did slip back in 'comedy' mode

Denying that there was a deliberate liberal bias in the mainstream media, Mr Stewart maintained that: 'The bias of the mainstream media is towards sensationalism, conflict and laziness.'

'The embarrassment is that I am given credibility in this world because of the disappointment that the public has in what the news media tells them.'

Through gritted teeth Mr Stewart added: 'In the polls who is the most consistently misinformed media viewers.

'Fox, Fox viewers.

'consistently.

'Every poll.

But in a confession, he confided: 'There is no question I do not tell the entire story,' before defusing the situation by telling Mr Wallace, 'My Beef isn't with you.'

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
Fox tried to discredit Stewart and it backfired. Unlike most TV "News" people, Stewart can think, ad lib and adjust. The news drones probably have to read a prompter to be reminded to inhale after exhaling.

Oh, that's who jon stewart is... I've heard all about him but I could never place the face... never seen him before, nice to meet you, jon, but you gotta entertain me within the first minute or I go bye bye. :wave2:

Wow, jon's brother is the CEO of the NYSE? Oh well, it must be nice to have connections in the big city.
Jon's ability to make me laugh so far :fail: btw, what's with the AKA "Stewart'' ... isn't jon proud of his Jewitz ethnicity?

How much does this guy earn annually? Give it back, jon, save $60 grand for yourself... I dare ya!

I like Stewart -- he is funny and knows about/realizes Politics -- makes a change from some fucking 'comedians' .

The whole fucking thing is a display of nepotism at it's very finest! What are the chances of "Stewart's" brother being the CEO of the NYSE?:1orglaugh Furthermore, who's Chris Wallace's (registered democrat btw) daddy? .... Ya think?
Political debate is noting more than a reality show war of words, c'mon man, these guys cling champagne glasses every day at 4PM... democrat + democrat, republican + republican and/or democrat + republican. These guys understand that conflict and the raising of their voice gets 'em ratings.... it's so fake it make me wanna vomit.

Oh well, off to rehearsal with all my good buddies..... cocktails at 16::o0 hrs... the usual joint? :hybrid: :glugglug:

A better question I think would be "Who on Earth is Chris Wallace and why does it seem like if you are any old American with a political opinion you can get a TV show?"

Chris Wallace knows how to irritate people. Still, Stewart hardly lost his cool.

Conspiracy...
Jon Stewart  He already said he's a fake newscaster and people should go elsewhere for the news.

But... he cares.

He lost it? He did what he always does:make pundits look like jackasses. Yeah, he really "lost it" like Howard Dean. Every time he appears on Fox news, it's always an ill-fated attack on Stewart, it blows up in their faces, so they just go with the "WHOA CALM DOWN DUDE" defense. It's so pathetically transparent. While he DOES have influence, it's inadvertent on his part. As he said (if you actually watched the interview), his goal is comedy, and he's not the first comedian to take liberties with political dumbfuckery. Fox news is just trying to make him a character, like MSNBC is to Fox news. It's like a shitty comic book for dumbfucks.

Chris Wallace is a journalist and he's been around the DC scene for a long time. He's okay in my book.
He asks tough questions and doesn't shirk from being a hard nose. Hell he was one of the first to really give Otrauma a grilling.

'The embarrassment is that I am given credibility in this world because of the disappointment that the public has in what the news media tells them.'

THIS. He says it so often I'm afraid it will lose its punch, but the truth at its heart remains.

FOX is just pissed off that someone keeps reminding the public at how biased they are. They've tried repeatedly to embarrass Jon Stewart and they keep failing. And did anyone catch the dumb-ass comment Chris Wallace made that he believed Jon Stewart had political aspirations? Why in the hell would Jon Stewart have any political aspirations? He makes millions of dollars a year and is loved by many, so why would he go into politics and open himself up to making nothing and being hated for not solving everyone's problems? As for Chris Wallace, it's great that he's the kind of reporter who asks the tough questions, but I despise anyone who asks a question and then constantly interrupts their subject when they try to answer. He kept trying to catch Jon Stewart off-guard and get him to say something stupid, but Wallace failed miserably. FOX should give up trying to discredit Jon Stewart, because they keep making themselves look ridiculous. My final analysis, Chris Wallace is a jackass, because he has no self-control to be silent while someone answers his questions.
