The greatest rap ever?

Can I tell a quick Nas story?

When I was like 17, Nas' I Am came out. I stopped paying attention to rap at that time. So one day my friends and I took the subway to see an ECW show in Queens. There were posters for Nas' CD all over the terminal and in the E and F trains. Well, later on I realized that somebody took out a white paint marker and wrote "a gold plated ******" after the album's title on nearly all of the posters. And his hand writing matched the posters' 100%.

So, for nearly a month, I thought Nas's follow up album was called, "Nas is...a gold plated ******". By 1999, I fell out of love with hip hop and really didn't think much of it. That was the same year that ODB put out ***** Please. It seemed unlikely that Nas would resort to such a dumb album title, but man those posters were convincing.

I Am was not a very good album but NY state of mind II and Nas is Like were classics in their own right. A lot of people argue that '95 was the death of real hip hop. There is stuff out there now but you have to look underground to find them.

NY State of Mind was an instant classic. Unpolished, raw NY goodness. That's when NY and LA were both doing their own thing so fucking well.

I can't say if '95 was the death or not, but that was when I bailed. 91-95 was fan-fucking-tastic. I remember being so disappointed by Biggie and the Wu Tang's 2nd albums. Yeah, to me hip-hop went to shit when Method Man became the face of the Wu. Tical was shit IMHO. Still love Ol' Dirty's Brooklyn Zoo though.

Rap is not dead, but it is very weak...rap is in ICU! Hot today gone tomorrow..and old rappers trying to be hot is the worst! Jay-Z, Em, 50, the list goes on and on! We've all been waitin on Dr. Dre's Detox. Now I could care less!

Tical was shit. I've heard people say that's a great album but that's a lie. I love Immobialarity from Raekwon and some of the stuff Ghost did. Sumpreme Clientele is good. La the Darkman's debut is good.

Dre has nothing but ghost producers I have heard. He is overrated. And has all ghost writers as well. Jay-Z wrote Still DRE. But hey, congrats to him for having a bank account with 100 million sitting in it. Lil Wayne single handedly is destroying the game with his bullshit voice machines and pussy rhymes.

Rae's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx was OK, but the materialistic bullshit is nauseating. I'm a HUGE GZA fan, but Rza's solo shit is meh. Bobby Digital and Birth of a Prince was decent at best. I do love the Ghost Dog soundtrack though. And I love Ghost Dog...which never got its due. But I digress.

Birth of a Prince and Digital Bullet were good. I didn't like Bobby Digital. Ghost Dog was dope for sure. I had almost the whole album from Napster back in the day but I lost it now. The World According to Rza has some nice joints on there as well.

Nobody Beats The Biz.

From the perepective of a guy who realy doesn't like Rap

esham - boom!...or necro - beautiful music for you to die to...or del the funky homo sapien - if you must....well there's too many different styles and themes for me to pick one i suppose

Em is great but I think he may have fell off...kinda like 50 cent.

Listen to Recovery and you'll change your tune. His flow is back to the Marshall Mathers LP days.

No argument there. He has fell off a while now.

Em had one shitty record(Encore), and one that was decent, but not great, (Recovery). The guy was strung out as hell the entire time too, but some of the mixtape stuff he put out during that time was absolutely amazing.
